Adventure of the Seas Illness?????

Recommended Posts

I'm leaving on the Adventure of the Seas on Saturday. I just received an e-mail from Royal saying that due to gastrointestinal illness on the current sailing, check-in will be delayed on Saturday while a full sanitizing takes place. Can anyone let me know how things are currently? Just last month I was on an Oceania cruise right after they had a round of Noro and lots of things were cancelled/closed. Also the poor couple I'm going with were on last year's Royal sailing out of Baltimore that was cut short by a day due to Noro and other issues. Guess we don't have much luck right now.

Thanks in advance!

Surprisingly, it looks like you and I have a similar number of cruises under our belts and I've never been on a ship during an outbreak.

From what I have seen though, it seems like many cruise lines have phases of sorts. Cleaning and no self-serve of food being the first, then eventually things get cancelled.

Hope you enjoyed the Riviera, we really like Oceania.

'Tis the season for Noro....it's everywhere....that's how it gets ON the ships...the passengers bring it. Noro is sneaky...you're contagious BEFORE you get symptoms! That's why it runs through schools, nursing homes, hospitals, etc...so easily. Don't touch your eyes, nose or mouth without washing your hands.....and good luck to you!

I will be interested to see what precautions are still in place when you board. I could be wrong, but I would guess that just after this type of sanitation would be one of the safest times to be on a ship. Would like to know if on a day one, salt and pepper shakers on on the tables in the wind jammer? Do they have a monitor insisting you sanitize you hands at each buffet line? Are you allowed to serve your self?

This appears to be an ongoing issue with this ship.

We were on in Oct 2014 when the previous cruise to ours had it. The ship was "Deep Cleansed" before we boarded and then approx 400 went down with it during our cruise :eek:

We have only been on Adventure twice, but we have never had any issues.

2 years ago we left from San Juan and were delayed as you will be as they had to sanitize Brillance due to the virus.

We made sure that we washed our hands all of the time - didn't even touch elevator buttons with our hands. We used elbows everywhere - LOL -

But - we returned healthy. As others have already said, this just happens and everyone needs to try a bit harder to sanitize! Tis the season for the virus everywhere!

when we were on the Adventure for the Christmas cruise 2 weeks ago, everything seemed ok. They had sanitizers EVERYWHERE. Several as you walked in and out of Windjammer and in addition had a gal there to greet you as you entered ready to squirt your hands with Purel if you didnt do it yourself with one of the standing stations. They did not "force" it on you but everyone seems to be sure to use it.

On our sea day we were told that currently 8 people were quarantined. Not sure what the total number for the cruise was. Later in the cruise all touch screens were turned off, such as wayfinders, and crew manually squirted your hands with sanitizer before entering any dining room or shop. Also, the crew served you while wearing gloves in the windjammer, you could not even pick up your own plate and utensils, they had to be handed to you by someone wearing gloves. This was my first experience with Noro and I'm glad about all the precautions they took. Boarding will not be allowed until after 2:00pm today since they are fogging all the cabins and doing a complete sanitation routine. Only one muster drill at 7:45pm. Hopefully the next cruise will be virus free and people will follow directions and wash their hands frequently.

We were on a B2B out of Baltimore that came in a day early. The crew had done everything possible to try and contain the virus, but people were still getting sick. (we did not get sick). We were put up at hotel in the Inner Harbor and brought back the next day. We were ushered in the terminal and back on the ship about 1/2 hour later.

I do not know how your arrival will be but at the Baltimore port it was chaotic. There were masses of people waiting to enter the terminal. This was around 1:00. I was glad we were being escorted back onto the ship. If you got an email that says delayed boarding, I would arrive at the last reasonable time.

Enjoy your cruise. You will be on a very healthy ship.;)

That's a whole lot of people who have just shown the world that they:

1. don't wash their hands properly and

2. put their unwashed hands into their mouths.

I don't blame the ship. I blame the people who don't wash and put hands into their mouths.

People can be sitting watching a show and then rub their eye without thinking about it. Its not a scarlet letter...just a highly contagious bug.

Still no word from anyone onboard this week. Maybe all to sick to get on the internet.

Multiple emails and phone calls from Royal re: "don't come until 2pm."

What do you want to know from people on board? I have friends on board, and they simply told me about the "deep cleansing" that happened today.

They "fogged" the staterooms, in addition to everything else you can think of.

I just got off this ship yesterday and sailed with the outbreak. It started with exchanging out serving spoons every so often on the buffet(but still able to serve selves) and constantly being offered hand sanitizer. By Friday, we weren't able to serve ourselves or get our own drinks in the Windjammer and salt and pepper shakers removed from tables. We could definitely see a progression toward more cautious rituals as our week went on. I do not believe anything was closed down. Constantly saw staff members walking around gloved with squirt bottles of sanitizers and rags. Made us wonder if there were different protocols hey follow based on how many afflicted? Check off lists for rooms were taped to outside the cabins that indicated how they planned to scour the rooms once we disembarked, fridge removed of all items in room, they were to even remove tp rolls from bathrooms....everything was to be removed down to the Save the Waves pamphlets in the bathrooms and the do not disturb signs for the room steward. Good luck but I believe everything will be fine for you! Paradise awaits!

Since you just got off Adventure, could you tell me who was the Activity Manager onboard?
