Folks need to keep in mind that posts made by thoes onboard during the storm honestly felt things were as bed as they were saying. When under such conditions sometimes things feel worse than they really are. I can't imagin how I would of been feeling if I were on the ship. It's easy for people not going through it to pick it apart, the fright they felt was very real .

I'm extremely happy that everyone is okay and the ship is okay.

Deck 7 aft balcony starboard. Just above the lifeboats. Water was smacking at our doors so that was a bit unsettling...

Crazy night and so happy we had the Super Bowl on in our room to distract us.

We did list significantly - don't care about the degree, it was enough that i had to hang on to not fall out of bed :)

It was an uphill battle to get to the bathroom. I sat in the bathroom for a bit as I kept thinking we might overturn and felt panicky about water crashing through the balcony doors. I almost was going to sit in the corridor so if we did tip over at least

That being said, I am not typically a worry wart so this storm emotionally feels like it took five years off my life!

Excellent how the staff is up and about this morning - no one had any sleep and they served a nice, limited breakfast in American Icon. Well done Anthem crew - so proud of you and your outstanding service in duress!

They are having trivia each hour in Schooner bar and casino and some bars are open. No news yet on our fate - we are headed to Port Canaveral but we don't know if we are continuing on etc...

I have been reading the foolish posts of people blaming the Captain. Guys - this came out of no where. He did not purposely sail through it. Yes, we knew there would be bad weather but stop pointing fingers. He was grace under pressure. He tried to keep us up to date and when it got really bad and he couldn't speak because he was navigating the ship out of trouble, the cruise director kept us up to date (let me tell you he spoke with a lot of angst and panic in his voice unlike the captain!!)

Chalking this up to another experience at sea! Yup it really, really sucked and was scary but we made it through!

The life jackets on Oasis class have always been as muster stations; and both current ships sailing had been in service before Concordia. The reason is not space savings in cabin; it is because of the size of the ship and the time required to return to cabin to get the jacket and then to muster station would take too long. It was easier and safer to have the jackets at the station.

I thought that was exactly the point I was making!

Think about a serious emergency, and 6,000 passengers needed to get to their cabins to get their life jackets, then find their muster stations.

First. at least 25% probably could not even find their cabins. Think about the corridors, the chaos that would ensue.

Simple answer, with ships as large as Oasis/Allure/Anthem, the only rational thing to do in such an emergency is go right to the muster station.

Yesterday was scary. Regardless of who or if anyone was at fault I am just happy to be able to argue with the trolls today. Times like yesterday should show us that sweating life's little annoyances and arguing about stupid things is really not worth it.

Were happy you are safe also:D If some posters don't stop posting like children . The mods will shut this thread down and I don't think any of us wants that.

OMG your misinformed assumptions are really getting annoying!

The existing cabins haven't changed, there is plenty of room for life vests where they always used to keep them, above the closets or in the closets. Adding more cabins to the ships does not in any way affect the placement of life vests.:rolleyes::rolleyes: The new location of life vests were indeed a result of the Concordia disaster as was explained by someone who at least did his research!

Were are you getting your information from?

We are just off Anthem (2/6/16). There are no life vests in the balcony stateroom closets.

Just for perspective for those who have never experienced a listing ship...

We were in an aft suite on the HAL Noordam when we were hit by some freak winds that caused the ship to list 10-12 degrees. I couldn't easily walk across my cabin, and it was very disconcerting. It took about 30 minutes until the captain could correct the list by shifting ballast. Here's a picture that shows our balcony railing with the straight horizon. I can't even imagine a sudden 45 degree list!

I'm thankful the Anthem passengers are OK and the ship is on its way to port!

Not saying you didn't list 10 - 12 degrees, but your picture shows a listing of only about 3 - 4 degrees (angle of railing to horizon).

Of course people are going to question it. Look at what the passengers just went through. Bottom line is RC is a business. Whether the captain "thought" the storm was going to be bad or not, RC in conjunction with the captain, are still responsible. People could have been seriously injured or worse. They gambled with their lives.

You're right, RC is a business. So how well would their business go if something happened to the ship? How much did Costa lose when Concordia had its accident? There are still people I know that refuse to cruise after that story. It's all about calculations and I highly doubt that the company pushed the captain and ship into a decision to go through a major storm. I mean how much money will they lose just by all of the videos and pictures circulating in the media? The morning news talked about it and I am sure it'll stop going around in social media. I can tell you that a company as large as Royal Caribbean is fully aware of the bad publicity they would get if something happened and the bad publicity they are currently getting just by going through a storm.

Thank you for your point of view. It surely had to be an experience that no on would wish for but just that, an experience in a long journey.

Unfortunately there will be others who have had their entire lives ripped from sanity and claim irreversible damage to their well being and sue for every penny they can get. The same few who are "not looking forward" to boarding this vessel ever again! Au-revoir, bon-voyage... or not.

So, you've never been on a plane where the pilot has informed you on take off that he expects turbulence and a bumpy ride, then tells you that he has found smooth air at higher altitude, only to have the plane drop suddenly just as he has turned the seat belt sign off?

You've never had to drive in a winter storm, after getting storm warnings, and then found yourself in worse conditions in the middle of the Interstate?

Weather happens. If you don't like it, don't cruise anymore.

I so agree. I mean seriously, you are going on a ship in the middle of winter off the east coast. There are risks. Just like cruising during hurricane season. You take your chances. If u don't want the risks, don't go.

This link should be better if you can't see the other. I hate iPad FB app.

Thank you very much for your reports and for posting a link to your pictures. You really help put things in perspective. Can I share your link with family and friends? I see it is set to public, but have to ask. :)

Isn't it possible that the Captain both did a great job once they were in it and also made a mistake getting them into it in the first place?

We don't have all the details yet but the two things aren't mutually exclusive.
