When do quincenera cruises begin?

 Share

Recommended Posts

We had a large group of quicenera celebrants on an early January cruise out of San Juan. DH and I enjoyed seeing the multigenerational groups having a good time. The only things we noticed was that sometimes it was difficult to move through the promenade or get an elevator. We saw no one behaving badly.

I would say you are more likely to avoid these groups if you sail longer cruises and choose to sail out of Baltimore or New York

We are planning to book a cruise for the summer of 2017 and prefer to avoid the quincenera cruises. When do the quincenera cruises begin?

I have to be honest, it is hard to avoid quincenera cruises if you sail out of a port that has a large population nearby that celebrates the quincenera time in a young ladies life --- that would include sailing from Miami, San Juan and even New York/New Jersey metro areas but I am sure the list is longer.

Longer cruises will give you the best chance to avoid them. Avoiding known school holidays such as winter or spring break will be helpful. At the end of a school year (which varies from region to region), you might have a greater possibility to have a group on board.

We have sailed out of Miami and San Juan in summer, winter and late fall, and have had small to larger quincenera groups with us. Generally all was fine. Even if you have no quincenera groups on a sailing you can have family groups that can be just as disruptive (or not) -- large groups of any kind are hard to avoid.

Cruise when it is good for you.

There is no particular time that Quinceañera Cruises begin as it's a celebration of a young Latin girl's 15th Birthday . Therefore it can be anytime throughout the year.

I've just not seen any others, so either I have not been paying attention or the were very small groups. We tend to do longer cruises and sail mostly late Spring after school vacations or late Fall, avoiding the holidays.

And are these generally done on the birthday itself or more as a group thing? The one group we saw had a dozen or so young ladies

They can be done both ways. We have seen smallish family groups with one or two young ladies as the celebrant, but we have also been on cruises with groups of celebrants from either a school or church group, with chaperones -- we have had some groups with their chaperones that have been some of the best behaved young ladies I have seen and then small family celebrations that were terrible 'fellow cruisers'. It just depends, not being judgemental here. Can it be a little challenging if the group is all waiting for elevators -- sure. But I have never seen it to be an overbearing issue -- we personally take it all 'with a good attitude'.

You won't know how many people are on any one cruise. I was on a July Allure cruise a few years ago and there was a large quince group but they didn't bother us, just lots of dressing up and picture taking which blocked some walkways.

google your ship and sail date with quinceanera cruise. I don't think you can completely avoid these groups.

We cruised the Freedom in July 2015 out of Orlando and had 2 large tour groups of about 300 teenage girls on our boat. Generally well behaved but there was disruption. They had specially rented out sections of the ship. One night my husband and I were in the adult pool and suddenly got bombarded with kids. The closed down the WHOLE large pool for a party for them and anyone over there, including kids were told to go into the adults only area. So much for our romantic quiet time leaving 4 kids at home. Also, we got to port early and were 3rd in line for security. Got upstairs and all of them were already up there waiting in line- so we waited in line over an hour because of it. They also had huge dance lines down the promenade and more. It was too much. Hoping there is not a huge group in 2 weeks when we go.

We did a cruise from Panama to Ft. Lauderdale 7 or 8 years ago in May and there was a large Quincenera group on board. Our understanding was a very rich daddy had paid for about 25-30 of his daughter's friends to cruise that week with his daughter. Didn't bother us too much, but they were quite full of themselves during the day around the pool deck, to the point of being a bit obnoxious. Lucky for me, they were too young to hang out in the casino at night! :D

We cruised on the Allure a few years ago in July. There was a huge Quinceanera group. All part of a company that specializes in these things ( they wear matching t shirts). There were 26 girls ( and their families and friends) all celebrating on that cruise. my kids found this out ( I believe from meeting some of the celebrants in the teen club). The tour group was based out of Mexico. If you didn't see the tshirts on embarkation and all the garment bags containing the hoops and dresses , you wouldn't know you had this on the cruise. The were just part of the passengers you would encounter. Formal night pictures were awesome...looking at the girls in their elaborate gowns, the pride on their families faces as they were taking their pictures. We also had a group on our Carnival cruise the following year. Didn't get much info from my kids on that one. They have a celebration party one night in a private room ( we heard the music and laughter on our carnival cruise) it sounded like they were having a blast. I really don't thing our cruise would have gone differently with or without them.

And since a number of these groups (which can range well into the hundreds of girls) come from south of the equator (Argentina, Brazil, etc), their summer is December to March. Trying to pin down a season of the year is not going to help.
