The website content is not a contract. Unless it is part of the passenger contract it is subject to change. If the Concierge changes the policy for a particular sailing, bringing a snapshot of the website page isn't going to help.

Royal Caribbean changed their target market to families years ago. There are other lines that do a better job for those who want to kid-free areas. RCCL doesn't always enforce their policies on adult only areas anyhow. Especially when there are many kids onboard.

But for Mike who shared his thoughts on wanting a kid-free area, he is entitled to that opinion. I get it.

Sure, he can have his opinion, but there's really no reason for Royal to say one thing and a concierge to do another (provide less benefits).

Whats with the company white knighting?

9 times out of 10 we can bring our children in the DL. If not, we go to the CL. Since the the CL is being eradicated and replaced with SL we no longer have that option. We hardly drink any alcohol as we have our children with us. We do love the snacks in there, that's the reason we go. The children will have a fruit punch and som shrimp/spring rolls before dinner.

On the few occasions we have been denied, it is always a 70+ diamond who complain and point finger.. Even though my children have a lot more cruises under their belt than them.

Stating that it is an environment with alcohol is a weak excuse. There is alcohol all over the ship. Now with all the packages you see half finished drinks all over the place.

Inconsistencies are not fun.

The variation could be based on capacity, the number Diamond on up onboard, and the number of kids onboard. The only true way to find out is to ask the Concierge on a particular sailing if it deviates from what is considered standard.

Patrik I noticed most of your Caribbean sailings were during American Spring Break or Summer Months. I imagine you see more kids onboard those sailings. Maybe that is why 9 out of 10 times it is no problem. Are there less Seniors on those sailings? I'm asking because it's been years since I was on RCCL during those time frame when my kids were young. My experience with the DL is when kids are in school.

Oeps, I'm a 51 Diamond Plus member and did complain and point finger last week on the Rhapsody. We were sent away by the concierge and asked to use our free drinks in one of the other bars because the DL was full. That was because several children were allowed in the DL however the letter we received from the concierge stated that children under 18 were not allowed to use the DL. So we went to Guest Relations and asked if we've missed something about allowing young children in DL. She called the concierge and came back to us that we could go back to the DL because he saved some seats for us. We got back and we're welcomed by a concierge who didn't like the fact that we went to GR. That was the second and last evening of a 10 night cruise for us in the DL on the Rhapsody:-(

That's to bad, I'd like to think I would go back every night just to wave at the Concierge.

To be honest, me any my wife feel young when we go to the DL. We both just passed 40, and it seems that the rest of the patrons in the DL are 60+.

We have to cruise over the holidays as our children are in school (8 and 11). In Sweden we have a 2 semester school system. They are only off for 8 weeks in the summer and 2.5 weeks in the winter. Any other break is 2-5 days, and that does not allow us to travel very far.

Both our boys are extremely well behaved, they don't roam the ship, and are always at our side. The older one is learning english, but he is not comfortable in AO as he is ashamed of his english. The young one is just starting with his english. They are in different age groups, so they can not help entertain each other.

I can not count the number of concierges that have gone out of their way to please them with gifts and trinkets. They usually have a hug'a'thon before we disembark.

I can understand that people are annoyed at children that run around, are loud and poke around in the buffet. Not all children are like that though.

Also, in regards to the two different notes regarding children in the DL. Most often we have received that with the wording "well behaved children accompanied by an adult is allowed during coctailhour."

Any reason you didn't use the CL? Or take your drinks & snacks out into the VCL? We recently were on Adventure and the DL filled up fast every night ( a few kids too)....we took our drinks/snacks out there and even one of the waitstaff came out to check on us occasionally or when we would walk back in they insisted on carrying our drinks for us... This turned out to be a very nice option...no need to even use our pre-loaded drinks. Sorry you didn't think of this.

BTW: you only had a problem on a couple of nights on a 10 night cruise?

Children 12 years old and above should be allowed, after all they are charged same price as an adult

Is there a price break booking in UK based on age?

In the US everyone pays the same regardless of age, though typically the 3rd/4th guest is cheaper than guests 1 and 2, regardless of age though still.

Yes, we did use the CL after that debacle in the DL. The only thing we didn't like the fact that there were quite a lot of children in the CL on most of the evenings. Some behaved but others didn't. They we're playing with a ball, run up and down, walked in and out and to the buffet. The waiter worked her butt off. The concierge and the waiter(s) were very helpfull and friendly in the CL. That's why we've spend the rest of the cocktail hours in the CL.

Sorry but children 6 months of age (the age of cruising on RCI) are charged the same too.....Any one that's D or D+ regardless of how they earned that status, should be allowed in at the discretion (choice) of the family their traveling with.

If you book 2 adults and 1 child in the UK the child has to be aged 11 yrs or younger,12 years and older they are classed as adults

Sorry...but I don't understand that just because you couldn't find a seat in the DL (that happens often regardless if there are children or not) that was a "debacle".

If you were also unhappy in the CL where there were children too...why not just speak to the CL or better yet use your pre-loaded drinks elsewhere...as I suggested you could have just taken your drinks outside the DL door in the VCL where you could have still gotten your drinks and snacks easily.

Many times we have seen children behaving better in the DL's where it is at the discretion of the concierge (so parents make sure they do) than in the CL where children in there have a right to be there regardless. JMHO from what we've seen.

Using this logic, adults should be allowed into Adventure Ocean and all of the children's activities because they are charged the same price as a child.:rolleyes:

Discretion of management is more likely. :D

Regardless of their age and what they are classed as they are paying the same fare. A 3rd guest in a room pays the same whether they are 2, 12 or 42.

I've seen many times that "discretion" should have been used with adults :D

No doubt about that. I've heard tales of 'adults' being removed.

The debacle was that we didn't felt welcome by the concierge of the DL. And I don't care about that drinks. It's the fact that it's sometimes nice to be a few hours in an area where there are no children. Why do parents otherwise bring their children to ocean adventure, I think for their own and children's pleasure? What I see mostly in that lounges is that children want to play and run. But maybe I'm wrong😉

Have not been on the Rhapsody yet, but will be on board in December. From the deck

plans, it looks like the DL is like several other Vision class ships, and is that very small

DL towards the back of deck 6 near the Shall we Dance aft lounge?

I am really surprised the concierge allowed children in there (especially since he was not

following his own spelled out rules ), since seating is obviously quite limited

already. IMHO if I had children with me I would simply use the Shall we Dance

lounge and my free drink vouchers. I would think the tots would get really bored being

in that tiny room, and would like the larger lounge a bit better anyway?

I would have been a bit miffed to be sent away also.

No you are not wrong.

What bothers me is that the concierge was not following his own posted rules.

The letter stated no minors during cocktail hour. Why even have a listed post

of rules if he himself did not follow them??!!

If on the other hand, as other DL concierges on other ships might do, the letter

had stated minors allowed only if with an adult...then yes, so be it. The lounge

was full and I would find seating elsewhere. But he was wrong to not follow

his own rules. Shame on him.

Good for you to speak up!! :)

Thank you all so much for your responses. Wow, never expected so many... Will just wait and see once onboard. Would only pop in for a pre dinner drink and quick socialise anyway, if allowed. If not, all good, thank you again [emoji4][emoji106]
