Diamond Club

Ouch. :p Not everyone in the Diamond lounge is a senior, probably not even most. ;) We have seen many D and up from early 20's and up.

In my experience it has been mostly packed with seniors who show up when the doors open to make sure they got a seat. They are the early diners. Even my adult children who became diamond in their teens would agree that my grand children would find it a boring experience.

We go during day. Not in the evening.

So do you think that if a minor is Diamond "in their own right" they have more right to the DL than the child of Diamond parents who is on their first or second cruise?

No certainly not...Status is Status ;)...regardless of how they got it or how many cruise's..RCI seems to make no difference in the two and I don't think there should be either....but perhaps I'm misreading your question.

Why are the children of suite cruiser's allowed access to a lounge with their parents and children with C&A status not allowed during certain times...doesn't make sense

Lots of opinions on why CL and DL have different rules. I just try and follow what is posted or announced via welcome letter

I'm pretty sure that I explained that in Post #46. ;) :D

Sorry to those who claim it is an adults only venue, but the only thing published on Royal's site saying under 21 is welcome. I still can't find anything on their website to say otherwise.

Any reasonable person would look at the website, conclude under 21 welcome with an adult, and call it a day.

It is the age restriction during cocktail hour due to the free and liberal flowing

of alcohol.

No, it's not.

If it were, then children wouldn't be allowed in the Concierge or Suite Lounge.

Carol, see Post #19

The letter from post #19 expressly refers to alcohol. ;)

I believe you; but can you link or provide a source reference so I can bookmark it?

After a weak attempt at searching, all I could come up with is the first link you provided. No one under 18 in either lounge, anytime of day for that matter.

Careful with thread creep. talk too much about the CL and "you know who" will appear to demand a hypothetical seat and then you'll have to go get new pics of the doggie :)

LOL!! :D Yeah, John...give us more pics of adorable Bella! :)

More fun to see than reading about rants and raves! ;)

He hadn't been around lately. I posted a pic of Captain Crunch on the favorite captain thread.

I think so many of us put him on ignore, he may have gotten the message. ;)

Maybe he is trolling the Carnival board now. :p :p

Thanks John. I was merely stating the reasoning behind whether or not minors

should be allowed in the DL during happy hour.

Every ship, and every concierge, indeed makes up that letter as to if they are allowed

or are not allowed...so be it. That is what is requested and no reason it should not be

followed. But some figure they are more "special" than others. ;) :p

Carol (and others) did make a good point, the only consistency is inconsistency. ;) I kind of enjoy the surprises, unless it's my ox being gored.

Enjoy Alaska.

Or put another way...."the only thing that stays the same...is change". :)

Thanks....will be interesting, as usual, to see what the rules in the DL are

for our B2B on Radiance. How does Juan Diego stand on rules? I read

somewhere that he is good at making a rules speech on embarkation night. ;)

When is it? There was a post that he is leaving the company.

Thank you all so much for your responses. Wow, never expected so many... Will just wait and see once onboard. Would only pop in for a pre dinner drink and quick socialise anyway, if allowed. If not, all good, thank you again [emoji4][emoji106]

Perhaps you should let Royal know they should have the kids clubs operating at that time just for that reason; so the kids have somewhere to go when the parents want to utilize their lounge access.

Perhaps you should consider all non Spanish or English speaking children who do not like Adventure Ocean as they can not communicate.

I think by now we know the verbiage is different based on the ship/sailing.

I looked up the letter from my last cruise. it is similar to this but states:

"Due to the adult oriented atmosphere and availability of alcoholic beverages in the evening, guests age 18 and under should always be accompanied by an adult in the Diamond Club after 5:00pm."

The Concierge at the time was Sergey Sinkevich and it was on the Radiance in April. There were very little children on that sailing as it was 11 nights.

So it is a guess on what the rules will be on a particular sailing. Since this perk is not part of the signed passenger contract, they can change it at anytime.

Not sure why some places can't be just for adults? DL and CL during cocktail hour just about screams Adult Time. I have 6 grandchildren -- I love kids, but there are times and places where they simply don't belong.

Doesn't matter how well behaved they are -- or aren't.

I know that many parents today simply think the world revolves around their kids -- that they are entitled to be treated equally, but I don't subscribe to that. 3 hours out of the day, isn't too much to ask for a child-free environment.

Mike

If you don't like kids during certain times of the day, maybe you should spend those 3 hours in your stateroom. A family vacation is spending time with your family. Not checking them in to a room stating "they love it" and do something else.

Not all passengers are American, and the world actually looks different in other places. Why should the cruise line adapt to American standards?

Does anyone else find it strange that when children are denied admission (or at least requested not to come - enforcement varies as we all know) it applies to "Guests under the age of 18"? On all sailings from the US and many other locations 18, 19 and 20 year olds are not allowed to consume alcohol. I think passenger key cards are marked in some fashion for those under 21, yet on most ships key cards are not used in the lounge, so why put addition enforcement requirements on the waiters?

Personally I have minimal trouble admitting passengers who are 6 (or 60) if they are reasonably well behaved. But a cut-off at 18 makes NO sense to me.

Take them to the lounge with you. Royals website says it is okay. My response was to someone who wanted an adults only area and I pointed out there already are adults only areas.

The website content is not a contract. Unless it is part of the passenger contract it is subject to change. If the Concierge changes the policy for a particular sailing, bringing a snapshot of the website page isn't going to help.

Royal Caribbean changed their target market to families years ago. There are other lines that do a better job for those who want to kid-free areas. RCCL doesn't always enforce their policies on adult only areas anyhow. Especially when there are many kids onboard.

But for Mike who shared his thoughts on wanting a kid-free area, he is entitled to that opinion. I get it.
