What is the kindest thing you have seen or experienced on a cruise?

We were at muster drill and a family arrived with an elderly lady. She began talking to everyone around her asking if this is where we pick up our luggage. She seemed to be getting more and more anxious about it.

About that time one of the crew members, that was leading the drill, walked up. The moment he heard her he immediately walked over, put his arm around her shoulders and gently started talking to her. He then turned and told her family for them to follow him inside where they would all be more comfortable instead of standing in the crowd and the heat.

I know the are trained to handle such situations but I was so impressed with his discretion and kindness....

I was on a cruise last December . On every cruise I had been on previously I was able to take an elevator to the Fitness Center .

However on the RCI Grandeur of the Seas the Fitness center is only accessible by and interior staircase.I was able to go up but physically unable to go down. One of the ships officers offered me the opportunity to exercise in the Officers Fitness center .

I was traveling solo and about two weeks into my 94 day world cruise. I didn't feel well and did not go down to dinner. About a half hour after dinner started my cabin phone rang. It was my head waiter who noticed I was not at dinner and wanted to make sure I was OK. He offered to have my dinner set to my cabin.

Had a similar one Don.

Not solo, only a ten day cruise.

Mrs Gut went to MDR alone, waiter asked where I was, she told him my back was playing up, she was sent back to our cabin, about 20 minutes later someone arrived with trays of food, about 45 minutes later another knock with desert.

Just read through 20+ pages of rude encounters on cruise ships. I'm willing to bet there are many more examples than that of kindness or thoughtful gestures at sea. Care to share?

Thank you for this...I was thinking the same thing last night :-)

We invited the people we shared excursions with in Rome to our cabin without telling them we had the Owner's Suite so it would be a surprise and our butler was a terrific and fun fellow who enjoyed posing for prank photos with them to make it look like THEY had the Owner's Suite on their cruise. He did silly stuff like stand in exaggerated poses by the guest and fed grapes to one of the men while he reclined on the chaise in the living room and posed pouring champagne for a lady and other things. Our butler was terrific - really he could be a comedian and of course, we tipped him accordingly!

Sounds as if you all had a great time, butler included!

Saw a couple celebrating their 50th anniversary buy a good bottle of Champagne for the newlywed couple at the next table. The newlyweds were married the same day, 50 years after the Anniversary couple. It was so sweet! They ended up sharing desserts together.

Fabio, a member of the entertainment team, on Star Princess last year (he is now on Regal). There was a long, long line to get onboard after check-in. A woman behind me in a head scarf, white as a sheet, threw up on deck. I rushed to tell someone and he immediately responded, escorting her personally on board. I saw her later on deck--clearly suffering from cancer/chemo. I have never forgotten how kind he was to her.

Shortly after my diagnosis of MS I took a cruise on HAL. After a day on shore I got back to my cabin only to find that my key card did not work. A ships officer was walking down the hall and ask me if I was OK? I wasn't as could hardly take another step let along go back down to guest services. He opened my door . Told me to get some rest and that he'd be back in about an hour with a new key card. He returned and said that his aunt had MS so that he knew how heat could exacerbate the symptoms. He asked if I was going down to dinner and I said no. Within 30 minutes room service was at my door with a special prepared meal order by the officer that had helped me earlier. From that day till the end of the cruise little surprises of various treats were delivered to my cabin compliments of the same officer.

We took a family cruise to Alaska on Vision of the Seas, many years ago. My MIL experienced severe seasickness on the last night. She had ordered a filet, and was very disappointed that she had to go back to her room, before her dinner arrived. When our waiter heard that, he sent the head waiter over. The head waiter told us to ask for him at breakfast, the next morning. He surprised my MIL (who was feeling much better, in calmer seas) with steak and eggs for breakfast. That was my MIL's only cruise, but she still remembers that particular kindness.

On the Veendam in 2014 i had an incident where I was badly in need of a massage for some pain relief. I have cancer and made that very clear when i called and scheduled, they told me it wasn't going to be an issue (many places have a no cancer patient rule). I went down ready to feel better, checked in and they got me all the way through check in, undressed and on to a table. That's when they decided to decline my massage... by this point i was emotionally wrecked. They had led me from thinking all was going well to wasting my time and putting me through a difficult task (changing into robes) for nothing. I got nothing from them but a brick wall, no serious apology or even an offer to make it up to me. I left the spa almost in tears, visibly upset. A couple on the elevator with me noticed and stopped to ask me if i was okay. They took the time to listen to me, talk to me and confort me and even walked with me back to my room. It was so touching that strangers actually cared. We ended up being seated with them at a future dinner and they still remembered me and made sure i was doing better. It's refreshing to know there are good people still in this world and that humanity hasn't completely lost.

It was actually United Airlines. Scheculed for a Christmas SE Asia cruise on Pirncess, they changed our disembarkation to Singapore instead of Thailand. UAl told us we'd probably have to cancel the cruise as it was too close to departure and Christmas but give them from Thur to Tue at 9 Pm. 9:15 Tue he called and said, if you are willing to extend I can send you to Bali for 2 1/2 days and get you home by Singapore Air Via Bali-Singapore-Seoul-San Francisco-San Diego- Washington DC. We actually travelled 21,000 miles in 21 days. Awesome!

We were on the Majesty for a weekend cruise on our wedding anniversary. On the three night cruises they do not have a hot breakfast available in room service. He had wanted to eat breakfast in our room that morning.

During the Upper Tier event (Platinum and above) I asked the restaurant manager why there was no hot breakfast in the room, and was told that it was because it was a short cruise, and it was easier to serve cereal, etc.

I told him that we had wanted to have a nice anniversary breakfast. He immediately offered to get us anything we wanted for the next morning, and that the Head Waiter in the main dining room was going to come down and take our order. That was great eating good food in the room on our last full day at sea.

The bad thing was that our waiter (who was probably a little paranoid) saw the Head Waiter talking with us and writing stuff down. The waiter came back over a few minutes later whispering to us that if we had issues with his service we should take it up with him. Talk about paranoid. We explained to him that we were ordering breakfast for the next morning.

Mine was on an excursion. Had torn a hamstring and broken my nose 2 days before sailing and wasn't entirely used to the crutches etc. Our excursion involved kayaking down a river and out into the waves in the ocean. I'm an avid body surfer and was riding the waves and totally forgot that I couldn't walk. Zoomed my kayak onto the shore and prepared to hop out before the next big one hit the shore. The guides yelled a warning, ran up full speed, and one scooped me out of my kayak and carried me up the beach while the other one snagged my boat. The dude carried me to the van, where my crutches were waiting. I was overwhelmed -- and the butt of a few good-natured jokes.

Sorry you were put through that. If it's any consolation, the spas on HAL suck, suck, suck. Hard sell for extras from minute one. You dodged a bullet.

Once, when walking through a very crowded Lido buffet looking for an open spot, a man waved at me and said, "We saved you a seat." I didn't know him, but he made my day! It doesn't take much to make someone's day a little brighter.

My mom fell and broke her hip on Celebrity Millennium. She had to be medically evacuated off the ship and flew from Nassau to Ft Lauderdale on a medical jet. When the ambulance drivers were taking her off the ship, the area by the gangway was jammed with people waiting to get off the ship. When they saw mom on the stretcher, they parted and started applauding and giving her high fives as she passed.
