Why the Difference in Price????

My husband and I are booked on a 6 day cruise. Friends of ours decided to go with us and asked me to book the cruise for them. (Neither one is real good on the computer so I always log in for them and do their bookings.) The same cruise is showing cheaper for them then for us.

I decided to check on a Panama Canal cruise for December 8th. Balcony room for us would be $1399.....for them...$1199. I logged in under my account and then theirs.

What's the story? Any ideas?

Same Captains' Circle level?

Same City? (i.e. regional discounts)

We live two hours from San Pedro. A couple of years ago we were considering a 7 day Mexico cruise. Our quoted price was $749 while friends in Arizona were quoted $549. After seeing that I checked with others living in Ohio and Virginia and their prices were also $549. At that time everyone was Platinum or Elite. Looked like it was a penalty for not needing to fly [emoji33][emoji33]

All of us live in the same state. We are elite and they are ruby. They have not cruised in a couple of years.....

We cruise twice a year. Something is not right! I love that they are getting a lower price but.......

Your wife didn't break something on your last cruise and not tell you about it....?? :D

That's totally bizarre that there would be that much difference logged in as your wife instead of as you. I think I'd want to call and ask about that even if I wasn't really interested in booking the cruise.

Many times people who have not cruised in a while or do not have a cruise booked seems to get better prices than people who cruise all the time or have a cruise booked.

I get emails, for a friend, with her captains circle number,as she does not have a computer and used my email for correspondence. Many times her rate is lower than mine.It is aggravating to see that.

I am booked on an 8 night in a few weeks, we are Platinum, after we booked our DIL decided to surprise our son with the cruise, so she booked after us, they are Gold. Our final price was under 1400, while theirs was just over 2000. We are one cabin apart. I think we had the Casino promo added to our booking, so I guess it does pay to be loyal.

And here is a shocker. If you start shopping around among reputable cruise/travel agencies you will find even better deals (often by a factor of 7-10%). Nothing new here as pricing a cruise is truly a buyer beware or buyer be wise issue.

I am sure you did an identical search, but just for discussion's sake, I've had this happen when changing the # of persons in a room from 2, to 3. Of course, a 3 person cabin was only available on a higher priced deck/location for the "same room". It was a $1200 difference, so it was like paying full fare for the third person.

My only criteria is not being under something noisy, as we're not bothered by height or lack of height, or front, back, middle... so that pricing was a bummer as we were looking for value. It was a late booking, though, and availability was tight.

Yep. My parents haven't cruised for about 5 years due to their age/health. They were long time cruisers. I maintain their email and Princess account. I always get on and check their price and it is consistently lower than mine. We still cruise a couple times a year. It only makes sense that Princess is trying to get them back to the sea.

Doesn't bother me...just wish they could still cruise with us. No better times than cruising with your family. They still want to hear about everything when we get home.

Anyway, Safe Journeys. Paul

These kind of targeted promotions are happening with Carnival, Princess and Holland America more and more. Two passengers, in the same household, with equal # of credits, accrued on the same sailings, sharing the same cabin, can qualify for completely different offers. How and why the marketing teams are determining who qualifies for what is an utter mystery. It definitely creates an uneven playing field, and as an agent I have to shop VERY carefully as if I miss a promo I will lose a booking to the cruise line because the consumer was quoted a lower price by them directly.

Also a lot of these targeted promos have non-refundable deposits attached to them, so you have to be very, VERY, CAREFUL!

You nailed it, AtlantaCruiser.

My wife and myself have the same exact # of cruises/sea days, are in the same household, all accrued on the same sailings cruising together. Our 28-day LA-Hawaii-South Pacific cruise next week is our 4th Princess cruise just this year. Yet my wife's Princess rate is $2000 MORE than mine.

Naturally we booked through our trusted travel agent who got us the cruise for the TWO of us for just under $4000 including port charges, taxes & fees.

That all-inclusive rate for BOTH of us is less than what the Princess rate is for ONE person when we logged-in using her Elite Captain Circle #. And to add insult to injury, the Princess rate does not even include port charges, taxes/fees.

Thanks,

Fred

How do you log in with a Captain's Circle number. Everything I see is email and password..

That is tied to your Capt Circle number. So you are doing it properly. You can see your Captain Circle Number when you are logged in.

Exactly, Coral. Thanks.

I've even tried to get my dad's price by telling them about the difference in price and they simply said, it was tied to that CCN. I get it. I check on my brother's as well and many times there are three different prices. Marketing strategy is marketing strategy....whatever works. I never feel slighted. I book when I find a good deal in a cabin that I like. I consider anything else, like a later price reduction, as an unexpected, yet welcomed bonus!

Amazing - I fat fingered a test booking once and realized I had two people in one and one person on the other one.
