Patron tee-kill-ya?

Is it Patron included on the UBP? If yes, how much is included? Shots? Mixed drinks? Silver or anejo?

I'm asking for a friend. :p

It amazes me how an American owned tequila created by a hair care specialist has become so popular with good old American marketing.

Patrón Silver is now a super premium brand, so it's $16.95 a shot. Included in the UBP, but you have to pay $1.95 + 18% for it.

XO Café and Café Dark are listed with the Cordials under the premium brands for $9.50, so they are fully included for no extra charge with the UBP.

Patrón Añejo, Reposado etc. are not listed on the menus I've seen, but I assume they are more than $16.95 a shot.

I realize there must be a markup....but seventeen bucks for a shot of tequila is insane, especially for Patron. There are some very good sipping tequilas (I favor reposado for sipping) that retail for only $25 or even less, a bottle. Try Espolon for one. Tequila dot net gives reviews of many, many tequilas.

The drink prices on NCL are generally outrageous, compared to other cruise lines, but they are like the retail prices of Invicta watches, or the initial price that they announce for stuff on the Home Shopping Network before they reveal the deal they are offering you. They are not expecting anyone to actually pay that price, and in reality, very few people are paying that price.

What do you mean by very few people are paying that price? Wouldn't everyone without the UBP be paying that price?

Yes, but most people who like to drink have the UBP at this point. People who only want one or two drinks during the entire cruise, first of all I don't know if they're choosing the most expensive brands, and second of all they are only getting one or two drinks.

My point is that they are not making money by collecting $17 every time someone orders Patrón Silver. They are making money (1) by collecting $2 from UBP holders, or (2) by steering UBP holders to cheaper brands.

I can tell you that I normally do inside rooms and the UBP is not always available on inside rooms. So while I am a big drinker I am not going to buy the UBP for me and the wife. So yes I would be paying the full price on everything I drink and hope that at the end of the cruise it is cheaper then if I would have bought the UBP.

Keep in mind, that getting a shot places a 30 minute hold on your UBP card. Most of the time they did let you know too. A couple of times, no one said anything but def be mindful of that, if it matters to you.

I didn't know that. So if I wanted a shot with a beer chaser I better order the beer first.

I've never heard of the time limit....I only drink shots, no mixed drinks, and I've never been given any time limits....but I haven't been on a ship since March.

1800 Reposado tequila for me, chilled.........always been given in a shot glass, never a cocktail glass.

This statement is simply not true... NCL has no time limit between drinks...

Like I said, it was not imposed everywhere. But once at the Pool Bar and twice at Bliss, people in our party were told there'd be a 30 min hold before they could order the next shot. This applied to shots only.

So just bc it didn't' happen to you doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

And people who have had too much get cut off completely.

I suspect your group was bordering on getting cut off and why they were limiting the shots. You announced the 30 minute delay like it was NCL's policy, it's not.

I would only book a cruise on NCL that gave me the UBP in conjunction with an inside cabin. If by some chance the booking time period that you were using did not offer it, then the obvious choices are to wait until the promo opens back up or suck it up and buy by the drink. Many people have stated that once they have a balcony, they can never go back to an inside. I feel the same way about an all inclusive drinks package. Once you have it, it is difficult to cruise without one. Although I have had to suffer on NCL without the espresso based coffees and my San Pellegrino that I was accustomed to on Celebrity. Having a bottle of San Pellegrino as your every third drink enables you to stay hydrated and consume alcohol wisely and thus less chance of a hangover.

I should have noted that Most of my NCL cruises are booked via CAS so I do get the casino drink card. So I can always just get a free drink from there.
