Bringing liquids on board since the ban

Unsure if they've continued that process in Port Canaveral - if there are vending machines in the terminal, they should probably continue with it at all embarkation ports though! Although for everyone here's sake, hopefully they don't!

We've sailed out of Miami, Port Canaveral, Southampton, Boston, Seattle in the past year with no secondary scanning (Miami, Seattle, and Boston since the ban).

Add "5 Hour Energy" to the list of banned Liquids. Read about this on the roll call and called CS to verify. Their words ... "No consumable liquids at all".
The rule is not "no consumable liquids". I understand that someone from NCL told you that over the phone, but that's what happens sometimes when you press them for an answer: They start to make things up. The rule is "no beverages".

Mouthwash, cough medicine and other liquid medications, maple syrup, coffee creamer, vanilla extract, olive oil, vinegar, strawberry flavored intimate lubricant… all of these can be brought on board in reasonable quantities, subject to screening. They are all "consumable liquids", but they are not beverages.

You can try to argue that 5 Hour Energy falls into this category, too, but looking at the packaging, I think you'll have a hard time convincing the security folks on board that it's not a beverage. On the other hand, if you put a couple of shots in each of your checked bags, I think they'll probably get through.

Thanks for the clarification, hawkeyetise. I now have to be lactose free, and I understand NCL offers soy milk (no go - it can bind to the thyroid meds and keep them from absorbing) but I do the nut milks. I was hoping the beverage ban didn't mean I had to drink black coffee :p Just to be safe, I'll keep searching for powdered coconut milk, but it sounds like I can bring a small nut based creamer.

They may have nut milks on board. I'm sure they have coconut milk.

I suggest that you contact the special needs desk about this (accessdesk@ncl.com). Tell them you need a particular kind of milk because of medical conditions, and I think they will let you bring some on board.

I will certainly do that as we get closer to the sail date, thank you. I HAD heard that they were just doing soy - it will be nice if they do coconut milk so I don't have to bring it with me. (Can you say "lazy"?! :D)

Do you happen to recall if there were vending machines after security in Seattle? We are sailing from there next August

Yes, in some cases they do have coconut milk. Received this confirmation from the access desk about our upcoming Jade sailing.

Hi , the ship replied that they do carry coconut milk onboard.

Best Regards,

Thank you so much! I'll call and request it before we board, but it's great to know I can have my coffee while I crochet or pretend to read and gaze out at the sea.

The product you need is called Coconut Cloud - it even comes in flavored versions and it is available on Amazon.com

Liquids were confiscated at security screening. It is a US port and essentially same rules as US airlines.

The rules apply to all ports, regardless of what country you are in.

US airlines prohibit any liquids over 3 oz. The ship will allow you to bring all liquids, regardless of size on board, except beverages. You can bring your sun screen, zika bug spray, lotions, hair spray. This would not be allowed on a plane.

But,,, no beverages of any kind.

Just off the Epic from Port Canaveral. There were tables and trash bins full of confiscated bottles and packages of water, sofa, etc. there was also one electric coffee maker in a box sitting on one of the carts. They are checking closely.

I didn't know that they wouldn't allow sofas on board.

Huh.

I know two people who were kicked out of alcoholic halfway houses for drinking mouthwash, which is 20% alcohol. For some children it is their gateway drug (Charlie Harper). Just because it is not supposed to be a beverage, does not mean that it is not. Drinking mouthwash is a lot cheaper than buying alcohol on the ship. I had to ask three people before I got permission to bring the mouthwash on the ship. I got the idea that if duty free still had mouthwash I would not be given permission to bring my own in from the port. If they allowed it, can imagine people bringing huge bottles of supposed mouthwash on the ship, with a note from their dentist that they have halitosis.

No one with halitosis needs a note from a dentist to prove their case.

Yeah, news to me to. I'm 5 years without mine and have been drinking milk the whole time.

I could be wrong, but I read that as she has to be lactose free, in which case she would normally drink soy but can't due to interaction with thyroid meds. I read them as separate, unrelated issues.

There are a few ways to bring on what you wish still. Hint, you are personally not searched beyond metal detector, and the flexible flasks you can purchase on eBay or Amazon work well.

I was able to get two large bags of boxed wine and several plastic flasks on board.

You need to have a chat with your physician or pharmacist. You don't understand how thyroid meds work, or you misunderstood their instructions. Unless you are different than most of us who take thyroid meds, all you have to do it take your meds 30 minutes prior to drinking or eating anything with calcium. It's not lactose you have to worry about because of thyroid meds it is calcium.

If you are lactose intolerant or avoid lactose or milk for a different reason then of course this may not be applicable.

Why smuggle on booze when you can just pick the UBP as your perk? Is the 99.54 over 7 days too much for you?

How did this thread go from bringing liquids on board to questioning what meds someone is on (seems very personal and inappropriate to ask) and how they take them? A few people need to first, slow your roll- she refers to the soy interrupting absorption of thyroid meds (which is currently in testing), and second- mind your business! If she wants to take her meds while riding a unicycle all to the tune of a monkey playing a harmonica and it works for her, than who is anyone to question/judge it? :D

This is really getting to the point of being ridiculous.

OMG, i could not cruise without my five hour energy drinks. I have to have at least one every day. This is one reason why I have not booked another NCL cruise because I like to have pop in the room. Thank goodness we just cancelled our next cruise with NCL.
