What was your upgrade offer and what did you bid

Under 4 hours to the 48 hour deadline. Tweaked last night, so I gave it my best shot. Crazy to see all the posts of getting upgraded 30+ days out. Bidding 50.00 for balcony and getting it. Hoping for the best but just printed out my luggage tags.

Someone just posted in the Facebook page they just got upgraded from inside to balcony a few minutes ago. Scratch that- just checked everything is sold out except inside

We were in mid-ship Balcony. My bid for a Courtyard Haven was in the upper end of the poor range and was accepted. The good thing I had going for me is there were alot of Haven cabins still available. There were 13 H5 and 6 H8 available, prior. That is something you might want to check.

Hi, how do you check to see which are available. On Ncl.com, it looks like a lot of the categories (non-Haven) say they will fill with a "Guarentee" since it's close to the sail date. Is there another web site to use?

Great news. Still hoping. Looks like NCL is going down to the wire on our cruise. Last few days seeing inside to balcony being taken for 50.00. Plus they got them 30 days out. Won't care if they let me know at 3:59. But have to admit it's been a tad frustrating.

I check The Captain Kirk site- since we are not allowed to promote other sites here rice-line

You can try doing a mock booking on one of the big travel site. (not supposed to mention names on cc)

Just got the rejection email. Both bids were in good range. Balcony was 185.00 , mini suite 250.00. To ad insult to injury, last night GTY balcony were 150.00 less than OV we booked. Will enjoy the cruise, but the bidding process can be frustrating. Especially when in the last 3 days all the posts with very low bids being taken, 5 weeks out.

Wow- then more money to spend on the ship! This is a frustrating process. I like the days when I could just call up and ask for it and they said yes for this price.

Here's a bunch of data for the curious like I always am.

  • 10/27 Sailing 7 Days NCL Dawn Bermuda
  • 10/20 booked an inside cat IF guarantee for $649 (Sail away was $499 at the time but we wanted the ubp - 10/24 it dropped to $399)
  • 10/22 placed bid of $115/pp for balcony - this was in the high "poor" range
  • We have silver status and first time bidding
  • Balcony guarantee was $749 at the time of bid and ended at $699
  • 10/24 assigned inside cat IA midship accessibility room (Might be noisey below the buffet but we'll take it! Better than deck 4 front)
  • 10/25 received rejection notice for balcony bid

Best of luck bidding!

Sometimes people bid on the low end and win. Sometimes they bid on high end and do not.

All depends on what OTHER people bid, and how many cabins they have.

Fun game anyways.

I suspect it also depends on what the bidder originally paid and their bid vs what other people paid and their bid. So a medium-to-high bid but a low initial payment very well could lose to a low bid and high initial payment.

Also number of upgrade bids in the bidder's original category could have an impact - so if there aren't a lot of upgrade bids on mini-suites but tons on balcony, a balcony stateroom may have a better chance of getting bumped to The Haven than a mini-suite if all other things are equal.

This is all about maximizing revenue, after all.

sorry you lost out, but I think we all know, when we bid, whether we go high or low, it is a gamble with some winning and more losing. I am hoping for better news. We are exactly 2 weeks out.

How true. I tried 3 times with the up-sell department and nada. Oh well, I will remember this on my travel blog and my TA I am gearing to start up.  I wonder how I would have been treated had they known.

Originally booked an inside. Bid $10 over minimum ($180 total) for a balcony. 28 days before my cruise my bid was accepted and I got a family balcony.

im going to book a GTY inside (IX) for $500/person for an 11day cruise next month but am looking for a cheap balcony upgrade.

can anyone with a confirmed reservation bid?

or is it by invite? if so, how does NCL select who to give these bidding invites to?

My upgrade was just accepted from inside to balcony. I received an email saying the bidding was open and when I logged on to ncl.com it was one of the banners.

If you are sailing next month you are within the 80 days window when the upgrades are offered. I have been told that not all TA are participating in the upgrade bidding process, so it would depend on how you are placing your reservation. Make sure you check your My Account messages and not just wait for an email. I never received that email but the upgrade offer was in my messages.

Supply and demand is the whole key as to who get upgrades and who does not. If you are sailing over Thanksgiving the demand is high, the week before and the week after not as much.

Be careful with the IX, you will probably not get any of the perks such as the UBP.

im going thru NCL's Casinos at Sea and using the 20% discount my land casino offers for any ncl cruise.

it comes with a free drink card at the casino thus Not worth paying all that $$$ in fees for UBP for 11 days :o .

i'll accept the limitation that it's bottom shelf drinks and only when the casino is open. (All vodka tastes the same with OJ :) )

so bid earlier is better than bidding 1 week before sail?

I would say yes, bid earlier. Most upgrades, not all, but most are accepted more than a week out. You can modify your bid any time, until it has been accepted/rejected. If you do a mock booking you can see how many balconies are available which might give you an idea on your chances and how much you want to bid.
