DREAM - Need help ASAP. Stay in room #6337 OR switch to #11253

I have never been on a cruise. We have a group of 4 couples going for fun in Sep. Most of my friends are all staying on various floors. I originally booked room #6337 cause I really want a balcony, but I also wanted to be kind of in the middle of the ship (top to bottom and front to back) because of that whole sea sickness rumor.

Well since then I noticed that was right above the casino so I am worried about possible noise all night. And I received an email that said I could jump to the 11th floor for $40. I am kind of wondering if being higher would add a sense of fun to the trip. When staying in hotels I love being in the highest floor possible, I am assuming that a ship would be the same way.

So Anyone ever been on the DREAM before and stayed in rooms close to these that could offer some advise or general thoughts. I only have a until end of Sunday night to accept the $40 upgrade. So stay put on 6th & hope that the casino isn't too loud OR jump to the 11th & hope for no sea sickness (if that middle ship part is even correct)

Anything I am overlooking between these 2 rooms. I am sure there are pros and cons to each, but anything I should really be aware of?

I have tried to include an image of the ship. It says 'magic' but I am pretty sure the layouts are the exact same.

Sincerely THANK YOU very much.

We did a cruise on the Dream in '15. We were on the 6th floor above the theater. Never heard a sound. Can't comment on casino. We liked the 6th floor though, easy to take stairs to most anything and didn't have to use elevators much.

You shouldn't hear a thing your over the casino it would be the other way around if the casino was on top of you.

I don't care for deck 11 because you have access inside the ship to going to the mid ship area or the aft, but if your going to spend most of your time in the sun and at the pool it would be smart.

I personally stay with deck 6 mid ship as you have it.

STAY. Many of the spa balconies don't have a cover. I found cigarettes and beer bottles tossed onto my balcony. And there was no cover from the rain. For this reason, I will never stay up there again. Also, there is no direct way across to the back of the ship from up there. So you have to go down to the casino and then over. I didn't care for it.

Another thing to think about is the hot tub on deck 5 just below your balcony. You may not have that much privacy on your balcony on deck 6.

But I have to agree with the others about getting from your cabin to the rest of the ship if you take deck 11. You will have to take the forward elevators down to go towards the aft of the ship, such as aft dining or comedy clubs. You could walk outside if you had to, but that might not be as convienent as deck 6 would be.

We were in Cabin 11249 on our last cruise on the Dream. It is an excellent floor and location. You are near the pools and one deck above the Lido deck. You get the benefit of the Lido deck without the traffic. You are close to the spa also.

No, you are assuming wrong. Higher floors in hotels usually means better views, this is not the case on a ship. The best views are the afts on any deck which is partially why they cost more. If seasickness is your concern, then you should want a lower deck. A lot of people with severe seasickness will deliberately forgo balconies to get a cabin on decks 1 or 2.

Many consider higher decks to be upgrades because they are closer to the pools and buffet (lido deck). If you plan to spend all your time at the pool, then this is a prime location.

The Dream and Magic are almost the same. Some variation on deck 12 and a bar or 2, but yes they initially were built to be identical ships.

I would take deck 6 over 11 and save the $40 for dinner in the steakhouse, but that is a personal decision.

I just took my first cruise on the Valor. I was on deck 7 midship. I am very sensitive to motion but I did not get sea sick. I could feel more movement on the higher decks and more aft. I'm a believer in midship being better for sea sickness. I wore a wrist band and took bonine to help.

I have to disagree with you on that one. I don't want to see where I've been, I want to see where I'm going. We love the view from the Panorama Decks.

We had a cabin on deck 11 on the Dream. Loved it! Very quiet and I felt it was a very convenient location. Very easy to pools, Lido, and Serenity where we spent lots of time. I personally would switch. Do you plan to do self assist? If you need off the ship earlier rather than later, that's a consideration as well. Deck 11 will be among the last to disembark unless you use self assist.

We have stayed on the other side of the ship on the Dream in 11252 and it is our preferred location. (We've also had 11258 on the Breeze and have 11252 coming up on the Magic in 181 days) It is the Panorama Deck and not the Spa deck so not having a cover over your balcony is not a concern - you do have a covered balcony on that deck.

We love the location! Right outside of the elevators and you have so many to choose from at that area of the ship. Not only the standard forward elevators but also the glass elevators so automatically you have three extra ones! We have never had an issue with noise, and the convenience is amazing. For $40, I would choose this cabin in a nanosecond!

Enjoy your cruise!

I don't think casino noise would bother you, after all, there aren't many slot machines screaming JACKPOT. However, if you are over the band setup in the casino (it looks like 6337 isn't directly over, just nearby) and you want to retire before midnight, the drum/bass sounds may keep you up.

Our first cruise was on deck 6 right above the casino (same location as you) and I hated it. The rest of my family was okay because they are heavy sleepers. But I'm a light sleeper and was miserable. I heard EVERYTHING. And believe me when I say those casinos are very loud and the machines are always set on the highest volume (to create excitement I'm sure.) Just try and remember how loud it is in Vegas when you walk through a casino. And there's a very loud band and bar area just outside of the casino. I think the varying responses you're getting is because not everyone sleeps the same. Some people close their eyes and they're out like a light regardless of noises or lights. Then there's people like me that need absolute quiet and total darkness to sleep. So if there's a light sleeper in your party I would advise moving.

As for deck 11, it's one of my favorite decks. We were on deck 11 last year and are on deck 12 this year on the Breeze which is a sister ship to the Dream. I thought being so far forward would make me feel movement more but none of us noticed anything. The Dream class is HUGE so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. What we really like about being on deck 11 is having the Lido deck with the buffet and pool right below you, the cabins aren't over the buffet area and the pools close at 10 pm so noise from these areas. No waiting forever for an elevator, just take the stairs. I also like how quiet deck 11 is. The spa is for those 18 and over so the majority of the spa cabins there just have adults in them. So no kids running down the hallways screaming at 2 am either. And as a previous cruiser mentioned, your particular cabin is covered so you'll have privacy. I hope my experiences help you. Happy cruising. :D

Bring earplugs. I have to wear them every night since Dh snores. You get used to them.

Spleenstomper, I see that you just took a cruise on the Dream. My wife and I will be on her in July! We have vacationed on her a few years ago but are looking forward to the dry dock improvements. I heard the BBQ needed work, did you get to try it?

Sincerely THANK YOU all for all of the information. After the first 4-6 posts it was obvious that I should stay, but the last 5-6 posts made me want to jump. It's not a huge decision, but one I definitely want to get correct. I may only do one cruise in my lifetime so I want to do it right (if possible) :D

I decided to stay put. I will trust that fate put me on deck 6 for a reason.

Side note, this forum is truly awesome. You guys gave me some great advise about my question, but more importantly gave me a few extra points to think about and research more. This site is going to be extremely helpful to ensure I have a great time.

Our group will basically be 3 or 4 couples, ages late 20s to late 30s. Mid Sept. Should be a great time.

AGAIN, THANK YOU ALL FOR THE REPLIES!!!

We had three cabins on deck 6 in March. 6211, 6225 and 6229. We did hear some pretty serious noise when the main show was happening, but that was about it. It was pretty rough though and I do not think I would book that far forward again.
