From my perspective it's somewhat unrealistic to expect much traction with the complaint when Royal Caribbean has 6 ships sailing out of Florida during the summer. By my count, that's 5 ships more than the ships sailing out of any other state during the summer.

It is six more ships than the ships sailing out of Rhode Island during any month.

And during the colder half of the year to you know what my options are if I want to take a cruise? I can get on a plane and fly to Florida or I can not get on the plane and stay home. I think that you still have more options than I have.

Or I can even try to get on a plane and have my flight cancelled due to snow :o 3 airports, no one is leaving, and everyone is mad!

Given the prices I am aware of- cruising on the Oasis vs. the Adventure when you can fly from Orlando- I bet the difference isn't that much.

If cruise lines didn't put their newest ships (which usually command the highest per diems wherever they are, at least until a newer ship is introduced) in the most lucrative markets, we'd all be paying significantly higher fares to chip away at the enormous debt service that comes with a new-build.

Imho, Quantum class doesn't make much sense in Florida... not enough open air pools for such crowds. It is a bit similar to Celebrity's Solstice class, but many more people.

It was very crowded out of NJ, but at least it makes sense due to colder climate.

Oasis ships cost more than the Liberty. Yes. That is what happens with the newest and most popular ships. They cost more. So what is the complaint here? Because on one hand, this thread is (erroneously) complaining about the newest ships not being in Florida......but now you're complaining that the newest ships cost more. :confused:

So what you are saying is that you can do a 7 night cruise on a different ship where the cost of the cruise plus the cost of the flight ends up being the same as your option.

 

It's both a different ship AND different itinerary. Done.

 

Not sure what you are complaining about- fly to a different ship- you found an option that works.

 

Again, do you REALLY think a new and different Quantum ship will both be cheaper than an Oasis ship AND have a totally different itinerary? I don't see that what so ever. The new ships will have higher prices than Oasis for at least 3 years, and given the Freedom Class 7 night itineraries that have been sailed- you'd get to add ONE island that is different.

We also want to have three warm ports in north east, and we have 3-4, but it is are limited. At least we got some ships with covered pools like Anthem and sometimes Radiance class. I would gladly switch to Oasis class if it was warmer here. :)

Gulf coast, West Coast, and Puerto Rico cruises are often sold at a significant discount to Florida departure

Did anyone consider that the reason most of the new Quantum class, ex Anthem, are cruising in China & Southeast area is due to the bitching & complaining about the lack of Royal Promenade, DD, and any other type of criticism on this board when Quantum was introduced. Go back & read the vitriol & low marks heaped on the Quantum..

Well, we can always cruise from nearby ports, but if we wanted to cruise on the ship which isn't sailing from Northeast area... well then we drive. We drove to Florida to sail on Allure, X Silhouette, Royal and Ruby Princess, MSC Divina etc.

 

If we don't feel like it then we settle for what is available.

I don't think so. China demanded newer ships that they were getting (for big money at that) so that's what they got. Not only from RCCL.

Princess and NCL have also sent their newest ships Majestic and Joy to China. Even names of the restaurants and other venues are translated to Chinese and food choices are adjusted.

 

It is a business decision.

So why are there no Oasis class ships--seasonal or otherwise? Maybe the Op would want to trade Symphony for their new Quantum class (name escapes me) that will be sailing in a couple of years.

Maybe OP would, but I think it is too expensive to transport Oasis class there. Plus we don't know if China cruises are as hot as Caribbean cruises. I am sure RCCL took everything into account.

Imho Freedom, Oasis and other classes are much better for Caribbeans than Quantum class.

You can't just move a ship to Asia just for the season. The ships that are there are geared specifically for what the market demands over there, way too costly to change over and change back and too hard on the staff.

It seems, from what I have been reading anyway, that the Asian market is more into gambling and shopping. You don't really need an Oasis class ship with Boardwalks, Central Parks, large solariums, and a lot of pool deck space to accommodate their needs and wants over there. I also am not sure that the Asian market would appreciate the Broadway shows playing on those ships. Those are just some thoughts.

Huh? This wasn't true when you said it in the OP, and it still isn't. Literally the "biggest/newest" ship RC has is in FL right now. And the next one being released will be in FL, too.

You don't really need an Oasis class ship with Boardwalks, Central Parks, large solariums, and a lot of pool deck space to accommodate their needs and wants over there. Oh, and I remember one thing. Please don't be offended if you are an Asian cruiser and I am wrong. None of my Asian friends (Chinese, Vietnamese etc) likes suntanning. They think it is not very healthy... So I don't think they will love Oasis class in South Asia.

Also, some years ago we sailed Oasis during the Chinese New Year and oh boy there were many Chinese Nationalist on this cruise. We had a CP balcony overlooking Park Café and they began lining up some 30 minutes prior to opening--both young & mature. They also, on one of the side MDR small room(?), only for them and all dishes served were Chinese appetizers and specialties. My wife & I were jealous as we love good Cantonese specialties.
