ladybugpug Posted October 19, 2017 #26 Share Posted October 19, 2017 I don't get the whole "loyal" to a cruse line. I look for price, ports, and dates. I check at least 3 lines and find the cruise that will work the best for my family. Of course I look at ships offered too to see what each one offers. But usually we are pretty stuck after looking at ports, dates, and prices so the choices of actual ship are slim. I liked the freestyle of NCL and thought we would hate having a set seating time. But then actually really enjoyed our 8pm seating on RCL. I couldn't care less about advancing levels for perks that seem pretty mediocre. My dream is a Viking cruise to Russia. Nessa1dc Posted October 19, 2017 #28 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Ok..to be fair...let me start by saying that I'm a "Loyal Royal"...I am a Diamond member and after my 1st leg of my B2B in January 2018, I will be a Diamond Plus member. Those that were rude to you in the Diamond lounge are simply rude people, even if they were gold members. Heck, if they were in line at the grocery store. Please don't fault RCL for people having a lack of good home training, and yes that goes for my seasoned cruisers to who may be 65 and older. I do honor my Diamond status because there are a number of benefits that they give that me and my husband enjoy: Discounts, Diamond Lounge, Diamond Line, less crowded venues to eat, special tours, etc. We love the service level at Royal and we normally enjoy most of the people. However, to each their own. If Royal isn't for you, you should go out and find the line that will give you what you want. I would caution those with a snobby attitude, that lest you forget...you too were a newbie...act accordingly.
earltonharley Posted October 19, 2017 #29 Share Posted October 19, 2017 I cannot wait to be Diamond. I do not want it for the perks. My husband was a First Sergeant in the Air Force and the symbol is a diamond. He just wants it to say diamond on his sea pass. That may be silly but he wants it! When I cruise I am only focused on my time with him and I have no care what other people do or say. I have seen lots of rude people and one almost made me forever write off the Windjammer. I choose now to brush it off and focus on what is important to me. Besides, I run into rude obnoxious people every day. I have decided that I should feel sorry for them because they are probably miserable people and they allow their own life to be miserable. I appreciate the gifts that I have been given! Going on a cruise with the love of my life is my greatest gift! Amen to you! That’s why my wife and I cruise. My adult children come along to enjoy their spouses and we meet up at dinner each night. Nothing planned. My life is such a “rat race “ that the time together is well worth it. Cruise for you! What a concept.

warrior1024 Posted October 19, 2017 #31 Share Posted October 19, 2017 I don't get the whole "loyal" to a cruse line. mollyeilis Posted October 19, 2017 #33 Share Posted October 19, 2017 ...a woman that jumped all over me in my last cruise, in the Promenade cafe. She thought that I tried to sneak into the Diamond Lounge and talked down to me in front of others standing in line. So it was a case of mistaken identity? She saw you at the promenade cafe and thought you were someone who had done that? Or you were in the lounge and thought you didn't belong there and she chose to talk to and about you later? My husband dresses down for flights but often has first class. Some people don't believe him and won't let him through to the line when his boarding group is called. And it's not like those people are heading towards First. So have fun on airplanes if you want to avoid that sort of group.

Flatbush Flyer Posted October 19, 2017 #36 Share Posted October 19, 2017 I will be taking my 72nd cruise, I am 54 and I want to tell you, if you think your missing out on things and thinking other cruise lines will give you a "better steak", you are so wrong! You will find the quality to be all similar with one another, and Carnival being the worst. I cruised NCL, Princess, Carnival and RC and to be honest, we never favorited a particular cruise line until in May....we were on the Harmony and that is when we and my father in law who came along with us came to the conclusion that not going on RC that we were missing out on so much. RC offers a lot more than lets say Carnival and NCL...NCL mega ships have too many negatives which include the smallest of pools, the more narrow hallways, the interior always crowded and traffic jams everywhere, etc, the list is too lengthly. I don't know exactly what your looking for but as far as people, Celebrity you will find an older more quiet clientele and it does get very quiet late at night on the ship, perhaps that is something you would want to try? So wrong! You get what you pay for. And if good food is your desire, you really need to move up to premium or luxury cruise lines. Best food at sea? Oceania. Going on a cruise with the love of my life is my greatest gift! A little off topic, but nothing silly about your husband wanting a diamond on his sea pass card at all. Tell your husband thank you! I have a special appreciation for AF “shirts.” It’s perhaps the most thankless job in the military. I’m retired AF and I have had the privilege to experience what “diamond wearers” have to go through in watching over their “troops” on behalf of his or her commander. Herding cats 24/7. He deserves a diamond on his sea pass regardless of how many cruises he’s been on. Stealing from our Army brothers and sisters, “Hooah!”
Tommy3putts Posted October 19, 2017 #39 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Help me understand. How can a rude cruise passenger be indicative of how good a cruise line is or isn’t? I encounter rude people at the grocery store. It doesn’t mean its a bad grocery store?
wolfganghowell Posted October 19, 2017 #40 Share Posted October 19, 2017 So the OP was banned in July yet chose to post yesterday to announce he was done with Royal. Wow - gotta love the search function. And even though the internet is anonymous to a certain extent, I can't imagine announcing that I was banned. You have to have done something to earn that "honor". Sure, there are self proclaimed lounge police in the DL,CL and SL. I actually find them pathetically amusing. I'd say 90% of the people in the lounges are lovely. It's the 10% that we just shake our heads at.
Rare xpcdoojk Posted October 19, 2017 #41 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Hi folks. without getting pestered by someone who thinks I tried to get into the Diamond Lounge. Folks, no one cares about your status or your lounge access, or if you're a queen bee controlling everyone in your group. Huh? Context? What does this have to do with RCI? You think other cruise lines don't have passengers that think they are more special than you? Good luck. Sail what you like and value. JC

wolfganghowell Posted October 19, 2017 #47 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Years back, we saw someone get put off the ship and the word "banned" was overheard. They were drunk and threatened crew and other passengers. Since the OP was, as he so charmingly put it, "in a fight with his wife" in a public place and then actually speared food off a stranger's plate, is it any wonder they don't want him back? JC I have seen passengers escorted off the ship by RCI Security. They were very unruly (loud and cursing) and probably drunk. RCI Security gave them repeated warnings to behave. They refused, and then they were escorted to their stateroom and the next morning removed from the ship. Although I did not see it, I heard of a Pinnacle Club member banned for life. Supposedly, we was drunk and took a swing and hit a crew member.

Tatka Posted October 19, 2017 #50 Share Posted October 19, 2017 It's just something that all the retired people that live in Florida and cruise 10 times a year get a kick out of and can brag about. Well, we are in our mid40s, actively working and live in Massachusetts, so this doesn't apply to us at all. But we are not loyal. Last year we cruised with Royal 2 times, with Holland America and Celebrity. This year it is Princess, Norwegian, Cunard and will have 2 cruises with Royal. :) Sailed 7 times with Royal and Norwegian, 6 with Princess, 5 with Celebrity, 3 with Carnival (probably won't do this again), 2 with Holland and MSC and 1 with Cunard. Favorites are Princess and Celebrity, but like Royal a lot.
