Loving your review - and the photo's. What type of camera are you using to take the pictures?

 

 

 

Glad it is enjoyable! I have used my iphone so far for all photos. Makes it easy to post on tapatalk. I have my sony dx 100 but forgot my laptop so cannot upload anything to photo bucket from it.

Traveling in less than 2 weeks with my family (kids 3 and 6) - wondering about wait times for main dining rooms? Can we call ahead? We'll be eating on the earlier side (6ish) I suspect!

 

 

 

I will try and find out. Out of all our trips we have never eaten in the the main dining rooms yet. I did see a good lineup at 5:30 outside the ManhattanDining room, not sure of the wait times. We will be eating in there later this week. I will report back in our experience. Have fun in two weeks!

Was the poor service in Haven restaurant or accross the entire ship? We have a had less the perfect service in the port side MDR, don't recall Taste or Savor, but that appeared to be due to under staffing as compared to a bad waiter. We have never had anything but exceptional service in the Haven restaurant including bringing appetizers and deserts from other restaurants. Will be interesting to see if they will still do this with the change to a la carte pricing. They were happy to do so, but asked that we try to let them know ahead time to get to the other kitchen prep areas.

 

I have noticed from some of the MDR menus that they don't have much exciting options for the nightly specials, but may have not seen enough menus to really judge. Hope you will have better service on your next cruising adventure Haven or otherwise.

I have experienced some long delays "poor service" in the Haven and most all of the eating venues at times. but in my opinion not due to the lack of staff caring, in fact mostly with a few exception (we are all human, bad days). The staff does the best they can with what they are given. They give it their best. In one of the venue's we had a waiter who you could tell was new at his job, he was trying...the boss person came around and berated him in front of us.....the wait person was not being intentionally slow or bad....I have no tolerance for someone who berates staff in front of customers ...and I let it be known to supervisor that it was not acceptable to me. NCL in my opinion doesnt always support their staff. Now ending on good note.....the supervisor was very attentive to me and my mom and I also witnessed from him some very special from the heart attention he gave to a "special needs" young child int the restaurant. You could tell it was from the heart. This is a NCL not supporting their staff in my opinion.

So, how is this new CD "Alvin" doing this week on the BA ?? How is his voice? ;p compared to Dan Dan - which we had last time on the BA's Bermuda run. Not that the presence or absence of the CD going to make or ruin our cruise vacation ... for others, must be some sort of bonding - but, really ?

I am glad you spoke to the supervisor. And you are right, there is a difference between bad service and inexperienced service. With thge turn amount of staff rotation on a regular basis there are always trainees. I don't consider an obviously new person trying his/her best bad service. We all were new to our jobs at one time or another and need to learn. I think most of the staff are truly trying to make our vacations the best they can be. And yes sometimes it is just a bad day.

I only heard Alvin once and have not seen him in our travels yet. Admittedly we rarely attend shows in the theater anymore and that would probably be the best chance to see him.

 

I am with you the CD to us is a non-event and hardly noticeable, as long as there are activities and such planned , but if they do not have decent events and activities a good CD probably is noticeable.

 

Shanghai has its moments of a long line but I have not noticed it being terrible yet my few times around that area. We are using those aft elevators so see that area a good bit.

So when we last parted ways we were in Bliss bumpin to the music... not many dancers yet that I saw but the night was young... we are old haha so only hung for two or so songs. Wandered a bit

 

 

Then headed back to turn in for the night,and were greeted by

 

Maury the Mutt Hound lounging on our bed. We squeezed in next to him and cruised off to lala land for the night.

One note on the aft cabins up on Deck 14, you can definitely hear the bass coming from we assume Spice H2O above that lasted about an hour after we returned to the room, but we were somewhat buzzed from many Dark and Stormy’s and SoCo and Coke... I mean Pepsi :) so we fell asleep quickly. Just making note for anyone whom that may bother.

I mentioned yesterday that I thought the wake looked a bit off for the port propeller, what do you think...

 

 

On my morning hunt for coffee I strolled by my favorite part of the Breakaway... no not the casino... but the

 

 

Along the way they have Arrival Plaques from the Breakaways first calls at various ports.. nothing new since last May that I noticed...

Shaping up to be a variable cloudy day with a chance of ThunderStorms... damn we leave amazing weather up north for somewhat less amazing weather in Florida.... yes I need to live up to the critic part of cruise critic so have to complain about something [emoji4]

 

 

Not as intimate with the sea as some of the older Ships with full exposed lower promenades, this area still gives you some connection with the ocean... yes I am an outside promenade advocate lol...

 

 

We continue motoring towards our first port of call - Port Canaveral...

it does look a bit odd. does that affect the ship speed? can the ship maintain speed of around 20 knots? if the ship does not maintain speed, it might arrive at port late.

You had posted the O'Sheehan's menu of drinks/Super Premium brands, but didn't see the regular brand page. Your Dark and Stormy posting reminded me that Goslings was listed as a super premium brand not too long ago and you had to pay extra with the beverage package for one. NCL seems to routinely shift brands to various classifications so curious what is included these days.

Definitely can notice a difference and see what you are talking about. DH wonders if they hit something while docking and bent a shaft of the port prop... LOL! Just has a mechanical mind I guess.. I never really thought about it before. However, I am continuing to enjoy your updates!

I assume the Topmast Call are the well brands as I took pics of the whole menu/

Breakfast this morning was on deck 15 in the Garden Cafe Buffet.

 

Highly recommend waiting in the omelette/egg line as the omelette I had was excellent..

 

 

 

Things we take for granted each day but are little bits of bliss.. like a nice cup of joe...

 

 

 

I will check on our speed, and we both mentioned that the ship has way more movement than in previous trips so, like our cruise earlier this year on Anthem of the seas, when they had an admitted prop issue causing a good bit of movement even during very calm seas, my educated guess is BW has an issue. Nothing impacting us yet, still having an awesome time!

I'm following your great review. Thanks for posting! Breakaway is my favorite ship and I'm back in December. This thread is just what I need to get me even more anxious to get back on board. Congrats on the luck in the casino!

 

I love the aft cabins and agree there was something that looked a little bit off in the picture of the wake that you posted. Probably a prop issue that will be dealt with when she goes in for the refurbishment next year, if not sooner.

 

Your pictures really are tremendous. I have been on the ship many times, but never really stopped to look at those plaques next to the Waterfront...but I'm going to look at them in November.

 

Somebody earlier in the thread asked about the ice cream in O'Sheehan's. It's my weakness. The Hot Fudge Sundae is ridiculous! It comes loaded with darn near anything they can think to put in it, including gummy bears! IMO its a must try!

Thank you for posting - I hope they have the same menu on the Jade in 22 days - my husband will be happy that they have included Patron in the tequilas allowed. I just wish they had a wider bourbon selection but I think I can find something to drink..:D
