i know princess is not a wild line like carnival but will a 7 day out of FLL still be considered spring break party time with college kids?

i dont care about young kids on board during break, i care about wild drunk college kids.

was on october canada cruise and i counted the number of 'youngins' on one hand.

something tells me march will be different if i go.

i'm possibly considering a solo deal because of a great casino price and to burn up a future cruise credit/air. but totally up in the air as of now.

i wouldnt want to be in the midst of a college party atmosphere

there are other cruises march 25/april 1 but would that make a difference (air is a ton more for those trips)

Most college spring breaks are early in March (at least those that I care about). High school spring breaks are spread out thru March and the first week of April. So yeah, that's why I opted for a longer cruise--most kids can't do more than a 7 night.

However, as you noted, Princess doesn't have the drunken party atmosphere of some other lines. It is a little more costly and more family oriented. A group of college kids without parents wouldn't see Princess as their first choice cruise line.

Never say never for a drunken spring break cruise on princess!! Our 3/5/16 5 night sailing on the Emerald was a cruise to behold if some remember with around 900 college students. I got thrown up on prior to sail away in the ladies room! A girl drunkingly crawled out of the elevator. A kid jumped from one deck above into the pool. The lines for a drink at any bar was site to behold! They ran out of alcohol for the first time on Princess Cay before 10:30 am! And so on....

It's not something I have ever seen before and we have done 7 day Princess spring break cruises.

Just choose at least a 7 day sailing and you should be just fine. We have done many spring break cruises and have not had any major issues.

regal march 18

All of our colleges down in Florida have already finished with their spring break by then. Most of the public schools down in Florida are done with their spring breaks by then as well.

It isn't the colleges in Florida that are the issue. It is those of us "up north" where the kids all think they have to go to Florida or South Padre Island or it isn't really a "spring break."

But most colleges do spring break in the first half of March...except those that do an "interim term" in January so don't really start classes till Feb. And the high schoolers aren't old enough to drink legally.

I was on the same 5 day cruise on 3/5/16 as Host CJSKIDS. Everything she mentioned and experienced was my experience as well. This was probably the craziest cruise I could ever imagine. There were 900 some college kids and the majority of them were from the same college. There were so many of these kids that all the bars, pools and casino were always jam packed with kids. When we realized there were all these kids on board day 1, we said we were going to make the best of it and that we did. We ended up having a nice cruise. We were also staying on board for the next 2 cruises and they were back to the normal Princess crowd that we love. If you want to try to avoid a lot of kids, take a cruise that is 7 days or longer.

You did not say which ship. The CB is leaving on the 18th. That is a two week cruise so probably no college folks. I have never run into wild parties on a princess cruise but we try to take longer ones.

We are booked on that one and counting on the 14 days to discourage college kids. We have no desire to be on a party cruise. A 7 day cruise at that time would worry me.

We once took a 7 day cruise in March without realizing that it was spring break time. We regretted it.

That was 10 -12 years ago. Since then we do something that is more fun in March-----we stay home, do our tax returns, have doctor and dentist exams, and plan future cruises.

Actually Miami-Dade and Broward public schools are off the following week. The week leading in to Easter Sunday is the biggest of the year for families with kids, even more so than December break. Looking at March 18 at two weeks before Easter it may be a "buffer cruise" in between the peak of college students and the peak of kids. I would feel safe booking a seven night Regal which given the length, the lack of inexpensive OV cabins, and having to buy all seven days of the PBP, seems enough of a deterrent to the college crowd.

I think the bars and other facilities on Regal will do a better job of coping with crowds than some other ships. I was on Royal's five night getaway in November, and while obviously not a college crowd there were a lot of people with the PBP (including me) and the two bars at the main pool and the one at the retreat pool never seemed overwhelmed. Nor Crooners or Wheelhouse in the evening.

..but I was also on Emerald a few weeks after that notorious 2016 cruise. The bar staff was still stunned and exhausted, many walking around with the "thousand yard stare" hoping they never experience that again.

cant tell you about mar 18 cruise but info for mar 25 regal is age 9-12 is 132 age 13-17 is 218. dont know older age breakdown on this sailing..

If those numbers hold that is actually a smaller than expected number of kids for Easter week. We boarded Star Princess the week after Easter in 2011 and were told there were over 700 kids the previous 10 day cruise. Regal should have no problem absorbing 350-odd tweens and teens; thankfully the younger ones are rarely a problem (unless crying incessantly at the dinner table next to yours).

We know a couple who took a Carnival cruise in the Caribbean at Spring Break. It was their first, and last, cruise. They swear they will never cruise again.

We were on the 3/14/16 five-day Emerald cruise and had a similar atmosphere. Combining the AIBP with hundreds of college students made for quite a show. We found it amusing since we don't spend much time at the bars, and we enjoyed our aft-facing Caribe balcony. Didn't stop us from doing what we enjoy, but I wouldn't have wanted to expose my teen and pre-teen grandkids to that environment.":o (They will undoubtedly see it soon enough, but I don't have to rush them!)

That said, it didn't deter us from booking the 3/11 Crown five-day cruise this year.

I don't know what ship you are looking at but I am booked for 3/18 on Regal for 7 days. I also sailed on Regal last year at approximately the same time. There was no problem with college kids & I do not recall a large number of kids on board. If you are concerned about this consider the HAL Konigsdam for it's 10 day on 3/18. Beautiful ship, great food - no kids.

OP states that Princess is not a wild line like Carnival.

Carnival has lots of short cruises which attract the party type but

their cruises may be less wild than other mass market lines due to requiring a 25 + year old in cabins with a under 21 year old rule .

That's true, MCC retired. Princess allows passengers to book that are much younger.

We've had some horrible March cruises with Princess (10 day Coral Princess one comes to mind) and some really good ones (many of them). I think you'll be safe at that time of year. You'll definitely have a lot more families and college kids, but it shouldn't be too bad like that 3/5 short cruise that people mentioned above. Why not call Princess and ask? That way you'll get actual factual numbers.

.

Yes and no. Most lines have an age that someone must be in order to book a room with a minor who is not their child. For the lines I cruise, that is 21. People who are 18, 19, and 20 can be booked in a room with other people their age or older, but cannot be booked in a room with a minor as the "supervising adult" unless the minor is their child. The lines are not preventing these young adults from cruising, only from booking with a minor. At 21, the individual can book with anyone.

Carnival's policy is that a guest must be 21 to board on their own/book a cabin on their own. Anyone under 21 must have a supervising adult over the age of 25. It is the same policy as other lines but the ages are different. An 18 year old is welcome to cruise without a parent; they just must be booked in a cabin with someone who is at least 25.

Not quite "their age". The minimum age to book for yourself on Princess is 21. Must be at least one person 21 in each cabin unless their parents/guardians are on the same cruise.

From the Passage Contract (section 5, para 1):

Guests under the age of 21 years must travel in a stateroom with a Guest 21 years or older who shall assume responsibility for their care during the cruise. For families or groups booking multiple staterooms, the minimum age for at least one person in each stateroom is 16 years of age, provided they are traveling with a parent or legal guardian. We are unable to accept group reservations for student or youth groups that do not conform to our minimum age requirements.

https://www.princess.com/legal/passage_contract/pcl.html

So yes, members of 'Club 18-20' are being prohibited from cruising unless someone else 21 or over takes responsibility for them. Nothing to do with any other minors being on the booking.

We are booked on it. I never really thought about spring break. I hope not a lot of kids but if there are I will not let them bother me.
