A shout out to MSC !!!

A shout out to various people, staff, and experiences that I had the pleasure of meeting, or over hearing on the 3/3 -3/10 MSC Seaside. A cruise is what you make it. NOT the ship, despite its size and elegance; NOT the itinerary, no matter how exotic NOR the different ports of call. It is the people we meet, the interactions we have, and the enjoyment of cruising in general. That is what we remember.

Staff: Since I did not receive a MSC cruise survey I decide to give credit where credit is due to the following staff of the MSC Seaside:

Krishna (Junior Butler) YC. Thank you for the amazing job you did on our cabin. I don’t believe I have ever had a cabin cleaned so fast and with such precision. From continually stocking my favorite beer or my wife’s favorite rum, to the meticulous care of each and every nook and cranny of that room, your efforts were so appreciated.

Estefania (Dining Hostess) YC It was hard to believe this was your first cruise. My wife and I commented that your professionalism, friendly smile and warm greeting put the YC Dining hostess on the Divina on notice. WOW the way you hustled and took care of even our tiniest request was so appreciated. You are one of the people we will remember as making this cruise our favorite.

Sofyanto (Wait staff) YC Thank you for everything, from the suggestions to the “making exceptions” you made us feel like royalty.

Should anyone reading this post decide to cruise on the Seaside YC. I would recommend getting to know these individuals as they contributed to a wonderful experience for my wife and me.

People:

All the people we were fortunate to meet at the Cruise Critic Meet and Mingle. MSC takes the Cruise Critic posters opinions very seriously. The greeting by the officers, the cocktails, the cake and the photo were just over the top. It makes me glad that MSC considers the thoughts and views of the patrons very important. And a special shout out to MonteralMommy5 who I know reads these boards. You and your husbands charm and friendliness was so nice and it was a pleasure discussing, MSC, raising our children and the cruise experience as a whole. Secondly to Mary and Gary from Hot Springs, Arkansas who were kind enough to share their wit and wisdom with us.

Overheard/ seen/ experienced:

I don’t ease drop and far be it to get involved in somebody's conversation but some of things I heard and witnessed on board made this cruise unlike any other.

Worst T Shirt Award: To the gentleman next to me at our Friday dinner in the YC which read “Costa Concordia 100 meter swim team”. Sir your attempt at humor was lost on those of us who enjoy the relaxation of cruising. It was a travesty of errors and a great loss.

Most rude patron: To the woman from Pittsburgh who during our second dinner on board in the YC simply yelled very loudly at a passing waiter “HEY YOU…YA YOU!!! HAVE THE WINE GIRL BRING ME SOME MORE WINE !!!”

Best lost in translation: To the Italian gentleman from Milan who upon inquiring how tender the pork chops were from a gentleman who appeared by his accent to be from the Deep South. Simply looked at his wife confused. When she asked him if that gentleman was an American, he replied in exceptional English “I don’t know but his English was terrible”.

Second best lost in translation: To the Canadian gentleman in the Toronto Mapleleafs T shirt who inquired about the watch a woman from Germany had just purchased. The look on your face was priceless Sir when the reply from her husband was “I am sorry Sir but my wife does not speak Canadian only French and English”

Best one liner: Walking past the elevator during our first night on board; “You know Emily you don’t have to see the WHOLE ship in one night”

I hope you enjoyed my feeble attempt a bit of humor.

Sir ... it was far from "feeble"! :D

Well done for mentioning the crew that stood out for you. We have many, many memories of wonderful crew, too, who's names will forever stay with us.

My DH is a West Ham fan!

Loved this! So many are so quick to point out the bad but don’t take the time to give the props when they are deserved!

Quick ?

Your wife was able to get rum for the mini bar? We are rum people and I was disappointed when I was told it wasn’t an option for the mini bar. Hoping you have better news for me!!

Some of your observations just made me cringe - specifically the lady yelling for more wine and the Costa Concordia t shirt man. Ugh. You have to wonder sometimes where people's heads are....

The rest hilarious. Glad you had a great time .Looking fwd very much to sailing on this ship

We just asked our butler for a glass of about 3 to 5 shots of Appleton rum to be place in our refrigerator every day. So we had enough for her rum drinks mixed with requested juices

You are so right about Estefania! She was an absolute delight! Your memories of conversation were spot on. I would add a few:

The fellow from Nashville who said his cruise was "ruined" when the head butler took his glass bottle away from him as he was sitting in one of the hot tubs! Ruined? Really? You told the butler you have a hot tub at home and you do it all the time (have a glass handy in the hot tub). Really? I suppose the mandatory seat belt law has also ruined your life. So glad you took the time to tell the concierge about it as I was waiting to ask her a question. I was 'thrilled' to hear you repeat your story to Roy, and then to Mohammed, and then to Vishnu in the Top Sail Lounge. Apparently, I couldn't get enough of your tale of mistreatment!

I won't miss the crying baby whose parents ignored her. I will miss the two well behaved infants. DW and I had a great time playing with our "peek-a-boo" partners!

Adalpho, the waiter's assistant, overheard me say to my DW that I loved the violinist who played regularly in the lounge. He came over to our table (not his) and said, "You are talking about my girlfriend, so be careful!" Then he laughed and said, "She doesn't know that yet," and smiled! He was only one example of the tremendous wit the crew would display if you took the time to just talk or visit with them.

I really felt sorry for the couple from France whose lost baggage never made it to the ship. They were very nice people. The two of them were reduced to the same shirt and pants for the entire week. I guess they didn't want to buy anything in St. Thomas or St. John.

It was such a fun cruise overall!

OMG!! how sad...and unfortunate. Is it written in the captain's job description that he absolutely MUST stay on board in the event of a tragedy? If so, then why didn't Schettino know this?? smh...how did I miss this story 6 years ago??:(:(

This was such a wonderful shout out. Aside from the humor, you've given us tons of great stuff to look forward to when we sail Yacht club in a few more weeks.!! Awesome contribution.:D:D
