HappySailer88 Posted April 11, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2018 Thanks Celebrity!!!!!!!!!! We were 3 days away from ourFeb 10 Cruise on the Equinox and I became extremely ill and needed surgery (11days later). As you can well imagined wehad to cancel. This trip was planned for a year. I organized and booked thecruise, flights , excursions, shuttles, hotels etc for 16 of us. 12 of the 16have never cruised. I finally talked my children (adults) and sister intotaking a cruise with us. ……To say we were heartbroken is an understatement. Like most people (people Iasked) we did not have cancellation insurance…..I said to my DW the money wasbeing spent anyway, just out the memories L. When I called Celebrity to cancel they asked thereason for the cancellation. I explained my case and they stated they couldn’tmake no promises but if I could send in some sort of documentation they wouldreview. They did also state a number of time in most cases people are declinedfor a refund or a transfer....heck nothing to lose. I proceeded to call the firstairline for the flight down, they said sorry and thanks for letting us know“you know the policy”. I called the second airline ( one I have never flownwith) and they asked why? I explained and they stated if I had some sort ofdocumentation they would allow a transfer. …..I had no problem gettingdocumentation. Celebrity called back 1 weeklater and allowed us to transfer up to 1 year out! I could not believe it. Thank you Celebrity!! We have only beencruising for 5 short years ….obviously hooked on cruising and Celebrity. I sent a friendly email to our first Airline to see ifthey would reconsider because of the actions of the others. Also stating howthey still managed to sell our seats for double the cost of what we paid.Daughter sat next to our seats and asked JThey have now allowed us to transfer also. Very grateful how this allturned out, did not expect this. Thanks again Celebrity!!!

Beachlover1989 Posted April 11, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 11, 2018 It's really nice to hear that sometimes the correct decisions are made by a business, and especially a cruise line that I love! jkgourmet Posted April 11, 2018 #4 Share Posted April 11, 2018 GREAT - and thanks for letting us know. May I ask, just out of pure curiosity: What level were you with X and what kind of cabin did you book? Take care of yourself, and return to the ship ASAP. So glad you have managed to sort it .Was a little surprised when you said like most people you didn’t have cancelation insurance !!! Does this come as a separate insurance policy or don’t you have any travel insurance ? I thought everyone has cancelation insurance as part of your travel insurance. I know we in the UK do Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Silkroad Posted April 11, 2018 #7 Share Posted April 11, 2018 I hope you’ve had a successful surgery and a speedy recovery:). Thanks for sharing your story. It’s lovely to think that sometimes businesses have employees who both have a bit of wriggle room in the book of rules, and are willing to use it. I hope you’re able to board that ship with your family within the year!
Zoedokey Posted April 11, 2018 #8 Share Posted April 11, 2018 I hope people reading this decide they don't need travel insurance because Celebrity will let them rebook anyway. This is a rare thing. Sent from my iPad using Forums

shukapaw Posted April 11, 2018 #10 Share Posted April 11, 2018 You lucked out! As stated earlier, I hope others don't use your example as a reason for not purchasing the insurance and expecting a rosy outcome. Congrats on dodging a bullet! ~Brian

wrk2cruise Posted April 12, 2018 #13 Share Posted April 12, 2018 I'm assuming the other 14 sailed without you. I'd think the size of the group you had booked had something to do with their generosity.
jkgourmet Posted April 12, 2018 #14 Share Posted April 12, 2018 I hope people reading this de cityde they don't need travel insurance because Celebrity will let them rebook anyway. This is a rare thing. Sent from my iPad using Forums I get what you are saying, but The BIGGEST most important reason for buying travel insurance is to cover medical expenses and medical evacuation. If one truly can't afford to loose the cruise fare, they really shouldn't be booking the cruise. But medical where your health insurance- now is worthless - that's a loss that can easily be hundreds of thousands of dollars.
#55worktoplay Posted April 12, 2018 #15 Share Posted April 12, 2018 That’s great and very fortunate for you without insurance that it didn’t happen 3 days into your cruise. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

HappySailer88 Posted April 12, 2018 Author #19 Share Posted April 12, 2018 Thanks for all the well wishes ! It's a slower then I would have liked recovery, but getting better every day. I still consider myself young at 52. I have never missed or called in sick for work in the 25 years I been there. I think I took my health for grant...not no more:) !!!! We have a good out of country health insurance, but no cancellation insurance. I will be looking into a credit card that does cover this now. All of my family and friends went on the cruise except my DW. I felt so bad for her and tried to convince her to go. She stated " Would you go if I were sick"......"Of course I wouldn't dear":cool::) The kids were going to back out, one was a nurse even. Had to do some convincing there. We are only a "Classic" and it was a 2A cabin . I think between the situation and that fact Celebrity even goes as far as review our cruising habits. How often, what my DW spends in the casino :), what we purchase over and above our OBC etc. ( just my thoughts) ........I am going to go with they felt sorry for us :), and I don't think they do realize that I have introduced 18 new customer to the line that they would not have had. I have always been their cheapest form of advertising and still will be.
