We compared Azamara to Celebrity pro rata (on number of nights), adjusting for included drinks/premium coffees, gratuities etc, compared to a drinks package and gratuities to pay. Sailing to Antarctica out of Buenos Aires in January ‘19. Azamara in a suite worked out only a few pounds (sterling) more expensive than a standard balcony cabin with Celebrity!

I would certainly go with Azamara then.

I’ve only sailed once with them, but would go again if I could find a price comparison like that. I think I may have to opt for late bookings in the future.

I’m afraid Celebrity are going to have to increase prices to pay for their ‘reimagining.’

Also contemplating late booking. Curious though if the very high pricing, especially in the Med, will be maintained? Suspect it will for the Edge, jury is out for other ships...

We booked quickly with Azamara and are now counting down 🙂

I’m also thinking that Viking Ocean Cruises is looking competitive along side other cruise companies. Their prices include not only everything included with Azamara, but also a tour in each port. Their ships look stunning! Anyone else here considered them?

Viking ships are small and there aren't many activities, but the food and service are excellent!

They have no casino if that's important to you and unless you buy a drink package, they only include beer and wine with meals, it's not all inclusive like Azamara.

As for current prices, I just got a quote on a Crystal Cruise and I would have to book an OV but it's cheaper than a 2D balcony with Celebrity for the same length of time. Crazy.

Once the kids don’t want to cruise with us any longer, we’d like to try any of those alternatives. I’m not surprised hearing Crystal is coming out less than X under this current pricing.

UK prices for Caribbean cruise are cheaper than the US Big Box prices not just European cruises.

Can attest to this! I was amazed to find Celebrity to be the best value by far - £775 for a 10-day balcony with a drinks package for the Equinox sailing this week was a snap buy from us - cheaper than a week in the med, even with flights!

They were obviously having problems selling the Equinox sailings; she’s been on the ‘Exciting Deals’ for weeks.

When and where are these cruises. My searches have found that Crystal is more expensive.

I’m comparing 46 days on Crystal to 4 b2bs on Celebrity. The Crystal cruise I was looking at is August 2020. Amsterdam to Monte Carlo. Also factor in no tipping on Crystal and no upgrading to Premium Package.

Have prices and itinerary been announced by Celebrity for August 2020? What b2bs were you looking at?

Hmm. The 25 August cruise sailed full with no last minute fire sales that I am aware of? I did hear that the current cruise had over 1000 Brits on board due to a very favourable TA/air promotion.

No, I was looking at a similar itinerary starting in Amsterdam with b2b med cruises on Reflection based on 2019 itinerary and prices. I also compared it to the release prices of Celebrity, not just current pricing.

Gill,

She’d been on the ‘Exciting Deals’ for a few weeks. I remember a thread where another poster, was it grandgeezer ?, was commenting on Equinox being discounted over a few weeks before you took your cruise. They only usually give those deals over here when they have exhausted the military/resident/senior over in the US. A little similar to the very low offers that were on the San Juan sailings over here after the hurricane. Was it Minki or DYKWIA that went on Summit last minute for next to nothing as it was discounted big time in the U.K.

This was in July:

I was tracking both the August 18 and August 25 sailings looking for a doing a B2B. Both of these cruises were on the x-citing deals for at least five weeks. It depends on what you consider a fire sale. The August 18 date got down to $649 p.p. for any available veranda (and all categories were for awhile) with no perks. The lowest I saw the August 25 sailing was $799 for any balcony available.

I thought it was you that was tracking them, but couldn’t be sure. Thanks for confirming ;).

Yep...the Caribbean cruise prices are outrageous...I'd rather pay for the "funship" to cruise eastern or western. Land vacation for us next year.

That's us, we took 100 days of cruising last year on Carnival alone, and the price increases this year on Carnival, RCL, etc. has us canceling 28 days of cruising booked, to gas up the car this summer for a long land vacation!

Have you seen the prices X have resorted to in order to fill the cabins on Edge!!

And that’s the problem with leaving it this long to realise the prices have been astronomical in Europe and pax have been booking alternatives instead (or buying brand new family cars 🤣). I posted on another thread a long list of available cabins in just one category of IVs for an early June 2019 sailing. If they had been more realistic to start with, they would probably have filled far more cabins instead of having to result to dropping them to these low levels!

I keep checking pricing for Edge on our July cruise. Prices fell nicely a few weeks ago and I was able to get the better offer. Today - from yesterday - the price of our cabin style has increased by $2000 AUD with same perks. This is about $1400 USD increase from yesterday. Most S2 and S3’s suites are still available so why the heck would they increase the price?

Do you have a ‘sale’ due in the near future 😏?

I was wondering. Very unethical if so. In order to sell these cabins prices should be plummeting not rising. On deck 9 I think I’m the only occupier of all the Sky Suites and there are plenty.
