Thatname Posted September 2, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2018 Who has control of the serving utensils? When I sailed with Oceania staff served all the food, however on another line everyone served themselves. Which system does Viking use? When I sailed with Oceania staff served all the food, however on another line everyone served themselves. Which system does Viking use? Thanks Both. Some stations are served by staff others are serve yourself. Unless there has been some threat of Noro and then all items are served by staff. In 4 months on the World Cruise I think there were only two times the staff did all the serving. Lasted 4 or 5 days.

lackcreativity Posted September 2, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 2, 2018 On our cruise, there were hand sanitizing stations at the entrance to the World Cafe (actually, at all dining venues, I think) and there was a staff member who directed each guest to use the sanitizer as you entered the room. Rare Azulann Posted September 3, 2018 #8 Share Posted September 3, 2018 Every dining area offers the option to wash with soap and water. Sent from my iPhone using Forums I love that feature on Viking Ships. I use them al the time. Love that they used real cloth towels too.
lackcreativity Posted September 3, 2018 #9 Share Posted September 3, 2018 Every dining area offers the option to wash with soap and water. Sent from my iPhone using Forums I had forgotten that, but it is very convenient if you are returning late from an excursion and go straight to get something to eat! Homosassa Posted September 3, 2018 #10 Share Posted September 3, 2018 Every dining area offers the option to wash with soap and water. Sent from my iPhone using Forums I am glad to hear that soap and water is available. Washing one's hands is more effective than moving the dirt around with hand sanitizers. Too much faith is put in the sanitizers. They are good if one wants an addition cleansing AFTER washing with soap and water.

If we are coming from our cabin where we have change clothes and "freshened up" beforehand, then a little sanitizer is a bonus. It's good to have both options. Heidi13 Posted September 3, 2018 #13 Share Posted September 3, 2018 Both. Some stations are served by staff others are serve yourself. Jim is totally correct and I believe most Lines have similar procedures. They have multiple tiers of response to Noro Virus, which are normally determined by the percentage of passengers affected. Not certain about Viking, but with Princess the first clue was the public washroom doors propped open, then when it got to "Red" they started crew serving in the Buffet, and in MDR the salt, pepper & rolls were removed from the tables. Another interesting fact - when cruising with our son, once the ship went "Red" we couldn't meet him, as the entire Bridge Team had to avoid passenger spaces. Jim Avery Posted September 3, 2018 #14 Share Posted September 3, 2018 That's what they called it on Viking as well. "Red". Code Red? Anyway red was involved in the crew doing all the serving. ;p

Jim Avery Posted September 3, 2018 #16 Share Posted September 3, 2018 Jim - Was it the the same in the MDR, with the waiters applying salt & pepper Yes, nothing on the table but utensils. Did not really affect the service time or food quality so no harm, no foul.....
deec Posted September 3, 2018 #17 Share Posted September 3, 2018 I absolutely do NOT remember where the soap and water is going into the MDR...the sanitizer is on the wall to the right as you are escorted to your table. the pools , SPA and gym were closed as well during RED times! Gym re-opened before pools.

The hostess would not seat us until we squirted sanitizer on our hands 😊.
