If you are not in the cabin, you are not supposed to have electronic devices plugged into wall outlets when no one is in the cabin. A question to the people who are saying the door decorations are a fire hazard...Do you leave electronic devices plugged in when no one is in the cabin? That has been posted there for years circa galaxy phone problem.
pe4all Posted August 23, 2019 #153 Share Posted August 23, 2019 I pay the cruise line for room decorations/cake for my special needs dd's bd each summer cruise we go on- just did so on our Star cruise. I also hang a small "happy birthday" sign on the door. I doubt the room decorations- especially the balloons the steward hangs- up are fire-proof. The door sign is two-fold - it celebrates her life and puts a smile on her face each time she sees it, and helps her recognize which cabin is ours. Have never had the sign removed, even on Carnival, which has had the same door decoration policy NCL just put in for a few years already.

Exactly how they determine what is fireproof and what isn't is the big question. Maybe they light it ? 9 hours ago, rochelle_s said: A picture of my door on the Norwegian Sun (May 2017). I suppose on longer cruises (around South America), when the cruise staff is looking for things to do to entertain the passengers, door decorations are acceptable. On my cruise they advertised and promoted a door decorating contest, craft supplies were provided if needed ( I used their crepe paper). The entries were shown on the big screen in the theatre and prizes were awarded - I received a loaded bag of NCL swag and a bottle of champagne for my door. Guess things have changed. 🤪 Rochelle Wow ! In tattooing they would call this a full sleeve . 1

FredT Posted August 25, 2019 #156 Share Posted August 25, 2019 My best guess is this has NOTHING to do with "fireproof". I have personally seen room stewards on three or four occasions working diligently at "trying" to get glue, duct tape, masking tape, and other (unknown) substances off those metal doors. I also have seen one lady using a "spray" adhesive on the door to put up her "happy birthday" banner. And you wonder WHY management is trying to ban this type of behavior?

gardeningnrs Posted August 25, 2019 #158 Share Posted August 25, 2019 In April we put a dry erase board on our door and my 7 year old grandaughter asked on it where are you from? People wrote on it and when full we took a picture and she has saved them. A couple of days later she wanted to ask their ages I said they probably would not answer that 1
nona0541 Posted August 25, 2019 #159 Share Posted August 25, 2019 I have a magnet that I have put on my door for every cruise I have been on. (and I have been on 20+ cruises, most of them with NCL) Because the doors are metal, this works out very well. They are very reasonable on the internet and you can customize them.
luvtocruzncl Posted August 28, 2019 #160 Share Posted August 28, 2019 Perhaps NCL should look at the casino as a fire hazard, I was on the Gem last week and its a total smoking casino, I can't tell you how may people were using the floor as an ashtray, (ash trays were readily available) so your telling me it is safer to flick ashes and put cigarettes out on a carpet than it is to put decorations on the doors???????

dmdiver Posted August 28, 2019 #162 Share Posted August 28, 2019 I actually enjoy looking at door decorations. We tried some refrigerator magnets once, but they fell off. Then, I started using dizzy danglers. They are a couple of bucks for 3 of them at Walmart. They're made of foil & intended to hang from the ceiling. I hang them on the mailbox. It helps mark my cabin. When we had 4 cabins in a row in May, each one had a different color. That made it easy for me to remember who was in which cabin. Since your cabin number is not on your key, it's easy to forget it. And no, I'm not stupid, but at 60, my memory is not what it was. (Seriously, this past weekend hubby tried to charge drinks to some random hotel room - got 2 numbers switched). Anyway, since they are foil, they are flame retardant. They don't interfere with going in & out of the cabin. Plus, you can see from down the hall, so you know when you are getting close. And, if you were worried about stalkers, you could take them inside. But then, you'd for sure have to know your cabin number. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Way-to-Celebrate-Red-Dizzy-Danglers-3-pc-Pack/23752116?wmlspartner=wlpa&adid=22222222227017227536&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=304464615808&wl4=pla-361329310267&wl5=9027230&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=23752116&veh=sem&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI29HxraWm5AIVBZJbCh3KdwAcEAQYAiABEgIJ1fD_BwE
casofilia Posted August 28, 2019 #163 Share Posted August 28, 2019 @richstowe and a bottle of champagne for my door. In that case you were very fortunate. You must be the only person to get one in a long time!! Most people get the "Tincture of Gut Rot"

bigwawao Posted September 8, 2019 #167 Share Posted September 8, 2019 It seems that there are equally those who side with and those who oppose decorations. My two cents worth. I personally do round the ships just to look at the decors. For me, it is part of the fun of a cruise. I do decorate my door but simply. I have a hippo in a caribbean outfit in shades taped to my door. I used those blue painter's tape that leave no residue and I only do the edges. Fire hazard? Safety hazard. Are people (cruisers and staff) walking the hallway with fire of any kind (cigarettes, literally flaming room service, etc.)? Its ok to decorate the inside, that way if there is a fire you only burn yourself and NCL is not responsible for that. Re. the electronics. Just make sure that your phone/videocam does not run out of batteries (and that includes your spare) during the day or you will be stuck to your room baby sitting your phone charging. I wonder, if I charge my phone from a portable battery but left it in the room. Would they disconnect it? 14 more days till NCL Escape. Then its other cruise lines for me. Will post my Hippo on the door- after I see other decors go up.
