Shops on Edge

I hope in about a year these empty high end shops close and more traditional shopping takes the space. This was a terrible plan by Celebrity as it was more for show and advertising then it is for what cruisers really want. Why would anyone pay more for anything aboard like luxury watches and such then you probably would simply buying the same in any of the ports the ships stop at? This was a bad mistake and will continue to be until it’s fixed down the road. My wife and kids like to shop on board but won’t be spending any money at this point on the Apex shopping. Sure, the name “Tiffany” looks great in the headlines and advertising but beyond that it’s stupid in reality and will catch up with them .

On my recent Solstice Honolulu-Sydney cruise I got a nice windbreaker with a Alaska patch on it. It was in the shops next to the casino and it was heavily discounted. I suspect inventory they wanted to move with the Solstice not returning to Alaska for several months. Surprised I found my size.

I recall years ago, can even remember which Celebrity ship I was on, I went to Faberge eggs lecture presented by one of the high-end shops. Did not purchase one 🙂

Yes, these mobile kiosks were out most days on the Feb. 2-9, 2020 cruise. From what I recall they featured perfume, watches, pearl jewelry, books, journals...

I been on a lot Celebrity cruises and I never noticed the cart. Have to look next time. Where do they have it?

This is about the Edge and more or less the lack of real shopping aboard.

But why would Celebrity really care about whether you buy a watch online or on land?  Why is it a bad mistake for them if they are making money?  The only way these empty shops will close is if the vendors paying for the very expensive lease for the space decide to not renew.  My guess is that other high end vendors would jump in and sign a lease to take their place.  Celebrity continues to make money on leasing the space for profit.  It is part of the business model for the ship.  I sailed Edge and like most did not visit or buy anything in these shops.  But the vendors involved must think it is worth the lease money they pay to Celebrity.  The same idea as leasing space in high end malls and shopping districts.

It's the Me-first mentality.  Some people are offended if everything isn't geared towards them.  They have no acceptance that maybe it serves someone else instead.  If it isn't for you, move along.

It's like a non-gambler complaining about all the space wasted on a ship for the casino.

Out of curiosity, and because I like to shop luxury now and then, can someone please tell me what brands are on Edge?

The X website lists Gucci, Fendi, Coach and Dior amongst the brands. I don’t think I’m expecting full on boutiques across these brands, but what actually is there? And what sort of goods, small leather goods like wallets, jewellery, bags, shoes? I’m genuinely interested.

b - Yes, but many are speaking about Tiffany, Bvlgari, Cartier and a few others which can be found on X's website here.

bon voyage

I'm kind of hoping they do beef up the Celebrity-related souvenir shop offerings on Apex, as I also like to take home a magnet or other memento of the ship. But I find I have done most of my souvenir shopping in ports, so I can see how they might have felt the space would be better used.

Bo thanks for that link. The UK website doesn’t give quite as much detail, and I’ve been able to also see the shops on Apex (I’m booked on Apex next year). I am delighted to see one of my favourite luxury brands Montblanc will have its first at sea boutique which will probably mean me treating myself for my birthday (possibly with the $1300 OBC I managed to snag during the last promotion) 😎

I didn't mind the higher end stores on Edge not that I did a ton of shopping although there did seem to be a fair number of people doing it. More so than I would have thought to be honest.

We did end up buying one of the tasc Edge branded quarter zips pullovers and I really like it. Its great for travel. To me its really no difference pricewise to looking at other high end performance wear such as Peloton or Lululemon which to me would be in line with the look/feel/target of Edge.

@Jim_Iain many thanks. I’ve a penchant for small leather goods and bags, although my hubby has me on a ban except for special occasions lol. A lot of these boutiques do tend to be targeting female clientele, but having discovered Montblanc will be on Apex am more than happy. A nice pen or wallet for my collection won’t hurt 🙄

And add a few things for children.  Edge had nothing for them,  other than the least expensive ship model.. They did have magnets and keys chains and card holders..bling or no bling.  Malala aisle was a ghost town.

Tiffany had nothing diff from the regular  catalogue...Coach store had nice selection..Coach and other hi end handbags.  Nice Swavrowski ( bad spelling sorry).  Also nice EDGE jewelry collection. Nicest piece was over our price

Remember, all stores on board  and many on land report your purchases...folks getting snagged all the time for failing to report!

Maybe you can make a deal with your hubby.    You get to spend as much on bags as he does at Montblanc.   I have a collection of Montblanc Pens and Cartier Watches so I'm not oppose to these high end shops.   I would much prefer having lots of high end shops with lots of space than the normal on M-Class ships where they have these flash sales with people beating their way to grab a $5.00 pocket purse.    I've actually had to go to a different floor to make my way past the shops as it was roped off waiting for the specific time.    Reminds me of boxing day at Harrods.

I seriously wouldn’t even go near Harrods on Boxing Day, but I know what you mean.

Sadly (ahem) hubby isn’t the least bit interested in luxury ‘stuff’ 😎

I was laughing that they sell faberge eggs. Cant imagine there is alot of cruisers looking to pick up faberge eggs on a caribbean cruise.

Was on there the last 2 weeks of January 2020 and one of those Faberge Eggs had a "SOLD" sign beside it; forget if week 1 or 2.

Tiffany's had a several "lookyloos" and a purchase or two happen while we were waiting for the Blu to open and heading to the Eden for acoustic guitar entertainment.

The Coach and jewelry store next to the casino held a party and viewing that seemed to go over very well for most of one night.  My FIL ended up buying a watch due to leaving his at home and my MIL got a bracelet too; got the cheapest they could find and still wasn't cheap.

As for the duty free shop (or whatever they called it), not a single thing in there was worth a purchase and disappointed.

Last year Edge had handbags in the Albierto Martini 1 Classe line, and I bought a small one with leftover OBC - looks similar to this photo I copied from the internet, but smaller, different style. They had larger totes, too. I’ve admired that brand in store windows and it was a great souvenir because the vintage map design is of the Caribbean where we were cruising. Still love it and use it often.

It’s not a me first mentality when I’d bet that 95% of cruisers that shop on cruises while on the Edge would most likely prefer traditional shops over Tiffany ...... Casinos have been around forever on ships which isn’t the same comparison to what Celebrity has done with Bvlgari and such ..... and $90 for a t-shirt? Casinos are packed , Edge shops are empty. See the difference?
