Well we have been snowed in for 2 days now, 36 cm of snow overnight on Monday. Our Subaru is good in the snow but no way will it do that amount of snow. It is pretty but I think it can go away now.

Wow.  Thanks for the pretty picture.  Vancouver Island doesn't usually get much snow, so I'm not surprised you have had enough.  When we flew in to Victoria one time, we were surprised to see icicles on the lamp posts. I love Vancouver Island because it is a perfect size for car travel from the north or south.

Wishing you all the joys of Christmas, good health and every happiness in the New Year.  Hope 2023 brings you the cruise you wish for.  I have just renewed my passport so hope to travel further afield in 2023.

A perfect Christmas card, Lyle.  How enchanting.  Like Marion, I thank you for this image of winter beauty.  Driving will indeed be challenging.

The wet continues in our part of the world.  More rain today, and I doubt it's much warmer here, although I exaggerate.  We wore jackets to venture out today, and we've so far had the coldest December on record.  That will change on Christmas Day, apparently, when 31C is forecast.

Our warmest Christmas and New Year wishes, for happiness, peace, and good health  to you and Lyn, to Marion, and all CC friends of this thread.  Too many to continue the list.

Two of our table companions are from your neck of the woods so we heard about your snowfall yesterday. It's lovely to see such a gorgeous photo of it. I'll show it to them when we see them tomorrow, we're going to one of the speciality restaurants tonight.

I hate people who are "Dreaming of a White Christmas". We are still snowed in and it's snowing again.

Fortunately we have electricity, there is fire wood available and there is food for a few more days. The temperature is supposed to rise dramatically tomorrow and we should have rain.

For all our friends down under have a safe and happy holiday season and may you all have wonderful adventures in 2023. Be safe be well and enjoy.

Cheers, Lyle & Lynn

I understand.  It is such a novelty for people like us from the tropics.  We used to be in raptures when NY had snow at Christmas.  We'd all race outside and make snow angels.

Going to Midnight church in the snow felt special.  My girlfriend used to say "but you don't have to go outside to work in it".  You don't have to shovel it to reach a cleared road, etc.  However, I have memories of cars sliding off the road in front of me.  Scary inching along with a van full of children  It is prettier looking out from inside in front of a warm fire.

As an ex-skier I must admit I loved it when the snow was falling thickly. I was staying in Thredbo some years ago when a blizzard came through. Walking to the restaurant that night was magical. Of course we had all the proper gear so kept warm and dry.

And I remember the annual snowfalls we had in Dunedin when I was a child. Schools would close and Dad would put snow chains on the car and take us to a park with a big hill to go sledding and build a snowman. But it only lasted a day or so, not quite long enough to notice what a nusiance it could be.

We'll be doing a slow, sea day run between Lyttelton and Port Chalmers tomorrow so no snow for us but no Australia heat either. Hopefully it will be a pleasant, sunny day though.

Merry Christmas Lyle and Lynn.

Your words made my heart leap.  Thredbo was our second home for many years.  We used to say it kept us poor, but kept the kids off the streets😉  Do you remember which restaurant Julie?  Thredbo was always magical, as you say, but even more so in a snowfall. Our kids used to do the Saturday evening torch run down Crackenback.  No stocks of course, just a torch held high.  Trouble was, their parkas were always flecked with holes from the cinders.  We ended up buying them cheapie specials just for that run.  Enjoy your sea day;  we're really looking forward to Lyttelton, having never been there.  It seems to be a charming town, from all I've read.   Have a wonderful, relaxing, Christmas day.

My mates and I, as poor bank clerks, settled for Sponars Lakeside Inn. Cheapest accomodation near the snow.

Sorry, Linda, it was some years ago. It wasn't in the main part of the town, it was on one of the upper roads.

Sponars...at the junction to Perisher, Smiggin, etc.  Legendary inn.

Yep. Also, nothing flash for us at Sponars. Multi bunk rooms and shared bathrooms. When we bought beer we sat it out on the windowsill to chill it - no need for fridges.

I can relate to that, back in 70s doing wide load escorts to the Snowy River Scheme, no fridges in ye olde Woolpack Hotel in Tumut, the cans of Flag Ale soon chilled in  a few hours on the window sill.

Apologies if this has been posted upthread.- a tv show I think I might pass on.🤣

Wreck

I saw the ad for that on ABC. A serial killer in a duck suit got my attention😂. Kind of reminded me of Scream Queens which I did enjoy so will probably give it a go. Anyone interested in watching here's the link:

Wrecked

Speaking of ABC, did a catch up of Gruen and ep 6 has a segment about cruising. If anyone else wants to know about cruises marketing strategies here's a link to the episode list:

No fridges needed anywhere in the mountains in winter, but summer was always stinking hot.  What were the wide loads, Les?

The snow is gone woo hoo, back to the "Wet Coast". Meanwhile I went in to work today hoping to make up some of the time I lost in the snow. Unfortunately prolonged sub-zero temperature coupled with an inadequate heating system in the shop meant a burst pipe and quite a flood. My boss discovered it on the 23rd. It looks like I'll be off for a few more days.
