That is exactly why we went. It is a bit of a faff getting across the border, you take one coach and get off to cross the border then get on a different one on the other side. The owner was very good with his talk as you wandered around his grounds. You then moved to another place where you had the snack and drink.     It’s not something I would repeat but it made a difference to staying on the ship.

Yes we had that faff on the trip to Marbella too! Thanks, the cork farm would definitely be something different.

My one and only accessible Madeira pic - taken on Kings Day, Epiphany, which I think is 6 January.  It was a lovely visit, with the Christmas lights still up, the children all wearing the paper crowns they had made, and a dry, warm evening

We dined at an outside table at a restaurant in the old town. Thought we should have a glass of Madeira as an aperitif.  Very nice.  Then scabbard & banana for the OH, squid for me, with a nice bottle of white.  Hic!  “Bill please”. Out it comes with a complimentary glass of Madeira - a digestif.  Oops!  Time for a wobbly walk back to the ship ... oh look, the Madeira shop near the dock has a couple of tables outside, the air is still balmy, we don’t need be onboard for at least an hour - go on, let’s have another.  It came with real Madeira cake.  Have you ever had it?  It is gorgeous, like the richest, moistest, most wonderful dark fruit cake you’ve ever tasted, with whole skinned almonds here and there.  Yummy!  Rude not to.

We did get back on board and sleep well.  Thank goodness for a sea day next day!

Lovely, our sort of day out in our pre-parenting cruising days.

More great photographs this morning. We had our first visit to Barbados in 1994 and stayed for a week in Holetown after our first 'posh' cruise which was on Monarch of the Seas . It gave us a love of the Caribbean. We have returned twice on cruises, the last time being in 2016 when we did a B2B on the lovely Adonia. My pictures are from that cruise, starting with the port..IMG_3391.JPG.d28cf041d1b811c79951255a3395178f.JPG

As the cruise was a B2B, we had 2 full days on the island. My husband is a keen bird photographer so, after some research at home, I found a place where he would probably get some photos. It was a delightful garden called the Graeme Hall Wildlife Sanctuary where we spent a very pleasant 3 hours...IMG_2020.thumb.JPG.129bc291db3eca66e9c8c8bc5f4c9584.JPG

We’re not very fond of beaches so we headed inland after the musical welcome.

Our first trip to Barbados was at a nice AI hotel. Part of the deal was a pirate cruise on the Jolly Roger. It was quite good, but spoilt a bit by drunken Canadian cheerleaders in bikinis swinging into the sea from the rope swings. No pictures as DW wouldn't let me take any.🤔
