by the way, the haven buffet is also amazing. what a choice of goodies, and if your server is nice, he/she will bring you a cappuccino or a latte without charging you. if they do this for you, be nice and slip them a few extra pesos

No need to bribe anyone... I was just off the Encore yesterday and in the Haven area you can have all the Starbucks, espresso, cappuccino and lattes you want at no charge.

I have watched many video re the private courtyard and the Haven restaurant as well as the Private Butler which if im being honest, im fairly self sufficient and dont really like nor want such a service.

Is there an absolute definitive list of every single perk in Haven versus a Club Balcony suite that would attract a cost.  Things im thinking about.

We thought that too at first, and you find small ways to utilize their services without feeling like you're being waited on and pampered. Breakfast in the cabin is a great free perk on days with early excursions. No need to fight with anyone at the buffet and food is there in the room when you want it so you can munch as you get ready. They'll bring anything to you (within reason), so we always write in our order and ignore the card options.

Let them know your preferences for snacks and drinks (non-alcoholic, ie. juices) and they'll keep your room stocked with them. We had a pitcher of cranberry & apple juice in our fridge daily, and low brow snacks for me (PB&J, cookies) with fancier canapes for hubby.

The concierge took care of all of the things you would normally go to guest services for. So you get to skip the hour long line there and let someone else fight to resolve your billing problems. Swapping dinner reservations, shuffling them around when you find out show times, last minute excursion swaps when things get cancelled, etc. They're helpful, and if you don't need them - no harm, they stay out of your way.

Regarding the club balcony rooms (previously called mini suites) - we met a couple on the Encore in one and they said the only difference between their club balcony room and a regular balcony room was the bathroom. Their bathroom was a bit bigger with a double sink. They claimed they got no perks what-so-ever in their club balcony, which I found odd.

One Haven perk we enjoyed very much was the ability to be escorted via back passages to the theater while the main entrances were still closed.  Being able to pick your best seats without climbing over people or dealing with chair hogs was very much valued by us.

That will vary by concierge.

The difference in the aft Haven cabins deck size depends on what deck they are on and it can really make a big difference in the depth. I was in an Aft Haven I bedroom on the Getaway on deck 9 and it is the largest outside deck.

Added two photos to show differences in deck depth.

I believe the deepest decks on the Getaway are 9 and 12, then get smaller -11, 10, 14, 13, with 13 being the most shallow.

But I read somewhere that the 'crew room' was just below Deck 9 and where the crew smoked and spent their breaks at all hours of the day and night.

You guys are killing me.  A Real NCL show would be so wonderful.  It has been to long.  Funny story. On past cruises my wife and hated the shows.  We would sit in the back by the door so we could leave if the show was bad. We usually left.  Then, we went back to NCL in the bigger ships.  The shows were GREAT.  Funny, years ago, decades their shows were pretty good also.  On the seating.  Every seat is a good seat the "Usually" the Haven seating is to the left of the stage.  Not Orchestra center but pretty good.  My wife and I are counting the days.

Jade, Epic and Encore the Haven area was the first few rows on the left side of the stage. On Epic the concierge also saved the entire first row in the center of the stage for Haven passengers too until about 5 mins to showtime, then he let anyone sit there. I was never invited to pick seats before anyone else was allowed in the theatre, but never had a need for that.

The real perk of Haven is getting on/off the ship. Escorted off the ship and skipping all lines at every port of call. And at some ports, being able to come back up the service elevator when getting back on the ship, instead of waiting for 3 elevator runs before getting out of the gangway.

To clarify Starbucks in the Haven? Is this only during sit downs or at bar as well? Is it just standard coffee or specialty drinks as well? I know the french press is supposed to be really good as well.

Additionally fresh juice in the Haven as well that is included? Where and what?

I am on the base premium beverage option not the premium plus.

The Haven restaurant menus specifically list Starbucks coffee, espresso, cappuccino and latte with no price tag on them. Never got charged once in the Haven restaurant for them. They also have an espresso maker at the Haven bar that you can get coffee from, or have the bartenders make coffee drinks for you with. In the Haven lounge there was a self-serve coffee/espresso machine to use as well as the Nespresso machines in your cabins.

Haven bartenders Veronica & Marciel on the Encore were amazing. Splurge the $3 for the espresso martini. Both bartenders made an awesome tiramisu cocktail that had no upcharge, Veronica's was more of an ice cream drink like a mudslide, and Marciel's was more of a standard cocktail. Both were fantastic.

And yes, fresh pitchers of juice in our cabin mini fridge daily at no charge.

Sthrngary, I just got off Encore and was in the DOS.  Previously you provided me some excellent advice about the Haven as I was a first time NCL cruiser.  Would it be of interest to post a review of my Haven DOS experience?  BTW, it was spectacular.  It might be kind of lengthy.

Yes please post a review.  I will be in a DOS on the Encore next year and would be very interested in reading about your experience.

Thank you

I just returned from a 7 day cruise from Seattle to Alaska in the Deluxe Owners Stateroom  (DOS) on the Encore.  We were very fortunate to reserve this cabin because they always appear to be “sold out”.  YouTube Videos can show the details of the 2 bedroom, 3 bath cabin that is 3 times the size of a normal cabin, and the balcony is so large it wraps around the front quarter of the bow of the ship.  However, it was Maria the Butler and all the Haven Staff that made it all special. We met Maria and her supervisor after our cabin tour and before we left to explore the Encore around noon.  We introduced ourselves and I presented her with a gift.  The gift was a wrapped mini-maglite flashlight to pre-thank her for being our Butler.  She didn’t understand at first that this was just our gift to her for being our Butler.  Her face brightened when she realized the maglite was just a welcome present.   At the end of the cruise, we also gave her a $60 per day tip ($20 x 3 occupants).  BTW, it seems passengers need to depart the ship by 930 AM, so we encountered no delays in Boarding the ship as we arrived at 1030 AM, were through Covid Testing at 1115, and started our Cabin Tour at 1130.  It appears that NCL learned many things from the prior 3 cruises.

The Haven experience began when we were escorted from the Check in Area to the Encore right to Elevator being reserved for Haven Boarding on Deck 7 and taken directly to Deck 17.  We stopped in the main lobby of the Haven for a quick visual tour, then asked our escort to be taken to our room to drop our carryon luggage.  We headed to Room 18700, he tested our keycard, told us the room wasn’t quite ready, and gave us a brief tour of the 1400 sq. ft. space that would be our home for week.  A bottle of Moet Chandon Champagne was in an ice bucket, the Bar Top had at least 6 boxes of water, 6 bottles of Pellegrino, 6 bottles of a Spanish Sparkling Water, and various mixers, Pepsi, Sprite, Mountain dew, and other soft drinks (probably 20 cans at any one time).  There were three bottles of Liquor I had ordered at no extra charge, and I guess the 20 cans were to enable us to use any “mixer” we wanted with the liquor.  For 7 days at least two buckets of ice and three place settings with napkins were sitting on the Bar or the dining table.   The second morning I mentioned the room service coffee was not very good, so at 6:30 AM every subsequent day a press pot of coffee was waiting along with an assortment of pastries.  I like my coffee strong, so Maria left it un-pressed so I could do it when I thought it was ready.  If I was awake, I would open the door.  If not, I would open the door of the master bedroom and it would be there on our dining table.  There was also an expresso machine on the bar with assorted pods from which you could select whenever I wanted something stronger.

Every afternoon, there would be a selection of goodies.  We liked the mini BLT sandwiches, so she brought those.  The fruit bowl was always replenished and Maria might just use her imagination or bring up selections available in the Haven observation Area buffet.  It was raining in Ketchikan so she found us another Haven Umbrella.  She had tears in her eyes when we hugged and departed the ship.  We saw her at least once a day since we spent quite a bit of time in this amazing cabin.

The Haven bar staff, restaurant staff, and people generally around the Haven were just as spectacular.  They staged a Birthday concert for one of my friends at the Bar area, had birthday cakes arranged to present to her at various times (3 separate times), one of the drink servers sings, so we encouraged him to sing Show Tunes every time we were in the Bar.  Not only is the Haven staff well trained, I think NCL focuses on finding “nice, genuine, and caring” because those traits are impossible to train.  Because my two companions and I were genuinely interested in their lives, backgrounds, and families, we developed a connection with the staff and we believed they liked us as much as we liked them.

We went on no organized excursions, but those that did could meet at the concierge desk and were escorted down to the deck 4 for a speedy exit.  In most ports, we started the day with a leisurely breakfast at the Haven Restaurant and walked off the ship to explore the port.  There was a Haven Area at the main shows, we scanned our key cards, and walked to the reserved seating area where an Attendant let us into the roped area.  We mainly walked the Stairs up and down the ship to get around, so we never felt overly exposed to crowds or potential Covid situations.  In the rare cases we used the elevators, we quickly put on a mask for the short rides in the crowded environment.   i would reserve the DOS AGAIN if I could ever find its availability again.  with only 2 of them on the Encore, I might never have that opportunity again!

Just following on from Ecco post above, what time is the earliest boarding for Haven guests and once on-board, is the food and drink being served as people board or is it a certain time that starts.

We are on Getaway on Monday from Rome.

I got the feeling on Encore in Seattle that we could have boarded as soon as the last guest departed from the previous cruise.  I believe the first covid testing time was around 9AM, which might allow you to get to the Haven Check in Counter around 930-945.  BTW, no one ever checked our Boarding Times that were reserved on the NCL website, only asked for identification and to show the printed Boarding passes from our eDocs.  Things could be very different outside of Seattle.  When we boarded at 1130, our plan was to have Breakfast at the Haven dining room before exploring the ship for the next 5 hours before departure, but the Concierge staff informed us the American Diner was open at no charge for all Haven Guests that day and for that cruise.  We enjoyed American Diner since it was not one of our Free At Sea Dining Choices.  The lobster rolls were fantastic.    BTW, the first cruise out of Seattle was a Covid Testing nightmare, with huge lines and disorganization.  The next two saw improvement to the point where the 4th cruise had very few complaints and Encore left exactly on time.

thanks for the review!  We really liked our butler last time on the Escape, and also a bunch of the staff in the Haven restaurant.  I think even more so now not being able to leave the ship, just talking to the staff and asking about their lives, etc., gets back a lot of love in return.

A while back on the Breakaway our room steward was a young guy, super friendly, to the point where we had the dinner show booked, and he liked/was kinda dating one of the waitresses at the show, and she happened to be the waitress we had, and when we passed along the hello from our room steward, she got all red and embarrassed in a cute way. Good times. 🙂

Gary, do you know if the 2nd bdr in the H5 category is designed for adults or is it more of a kid's room? Looking to upgrade from HE if it makes sense and take another couple with us on Encore in Oct.

Thanks, Dan

Well done and thank you.  I love the Haven.  We are actually in the same DOS on the Joy at the end of November 2021, 18700.  You remind me of my last Haven cruise and your review got my juice flowing that this upcoming cruise might just happen.  It will be out of Miami and the new NCL Terminal.  Thank you for taking the time to do the overview, it was most helpful.

Oh, this is a tough question.  I was originally taking my daughter and her partner whom are adults.  I had no issue with this because, quite frankly, I was paying for everything.  The second bedroom which is highlighted on many YouTube Videos is just fine and might be slightly cramped but again has a private bathroom therefore perfect for another couple.  My thoughts are, I would not stay in the second bedroom unless I was full price.  If I was getting a deal like by kids, you would not hear one word from my but thank you.  As long as your friends understand it is not even close to the master bedroom.  I would do it in a heart beat.  I hope that makes sense.

Edit:  Get the Two Bedroom Family Vila with the larger balcony.  On the Encore, Joy and Bliss, that is deck 17.  Bigger and the actual room is the same.

in order to enjoy the haven perks, a friend is joining us on the epic in jan, and another friend on the jade in april and the dawn in aug. since they are friends and not relatives, i made sure that they both checked out the you tube videos for the 2nd bedroom on the 2 bedroom suite. i didnt want to hear that they felt ripped off . both are ok with the room as they can share the rest of the cabin (except t he master bedroom and bath) and still get the best that haven has to offer.

by the way, i am only asking them to pay minimal, not even 1/3. $1200 for the epic, $2500 for the jade and dawn
