Is Sip and Cover Being Enforced?

On Christmas Vista cruise it was enforced in all venues (casino, shows, etc.). Pretty much before every show you heard "please buy our delicious drinks. But remember to sip and cover for the safety of the Carnival family" about every 2 minutes. CD also called out a few folks for it.

We did everything asked (including sip and cover) and still ended up with Covid from that cruise. It doesn't help. We personally found it extremely inconvenient and won't be booking again with Carnival until this mandate is gone.

Same here. I was on Legend last week and the only indoor public areas that did not require sip and cover were food establishments. Everything else they were mostly enforcing sip and cover

So sip and cover if you are drinking but not eating and drinking SMH so silly.

1 - There is no sip and cover rule when you are sitting at a bar, unless you are in the Casino.

Are you asking because you are worried about Covid? This is not the time to cruise.

Are you asking because you don't want to sip and cover? Read the Carnival's website

If you read my last post you would know that I am not worried about cruising since I am currently on the Celebrity Apex for 12 days. I also stated already that I saw the official Carnival sign regarding sip and cover on a YouTube video.  I did not realize that it's for the casino only.  If it was enforced in all of the bars I would reluctantly do it but would not be happy about it.

Does this explanation satisfy you as to why I started the thread?

Is the sip and cover policy of taking a sip of your drink and then having to raise your mask back up while enjoying a beverage of your choice at a bar being enforced?

Or is it just on the signs for show and as long as you are at the bar enjoying a drink your mask goes back on when you get up to leave.

Hopefully.  We have the second case of omnicron in our house in the last month.

All these rules make a ton of sense huh 🤪

They are doing what they need to do to keep cruising,  The emphasis on the casino is that the majority of cases were coming from people (staff and clients) in the casino.  Same logic for show lounges.

The solution then is to close the casino, eliminate all the gift cruises given to the gamblers and then social distancing could be achieved with the elimination of the gamblers on board resulting in a lower occupancy percentage.  This of course will never happen since Carnival's bottom line is boosted on a daily basis by the "donations" made by gamblers.

Business's have to do what they have to do so the government lets the operate, totally get that.

I just find it hilarious from the start, especially restaurants/planes. Have to wear a mask walking to your table, but then magically safe once you sit down. Historians will have a good laugh at some of these 'protocols'.

Just went to a 49er's game at Levi Stadium last month. Masks were only recommended and I'd say 10% were wearing them(we were in the 90%). It's either rules for all, or not at all.

If it prevents a few cases of covid, which is quite plausible, it is a minor inconvenience not even worth mentioning. I see nothing hilarious there.

I think this can be said of all Cruise lines that have casino's not just Carnival.

Again, what ever they HAVE to do.  If this really works, then they made the right move.

Just off the Mardi Gras.  Crew tried to enforce the mask rule and the sip and cover in the casino.  SOme people listened, some didn't.  Some entitled people just don't care. ( my feeling is these are the rules you agreed to, If you don't like the rules, then find another way to vacation) Gave out many paper surgical masks that I had brought.  Used the hand wipes I had brought routinely ( every 15 minutes or so).  Took immune support gummies ( with zinc) daily.  Have also had the booster 6 months ago.  Tested neg when I got home and am off on MSC Seashore this Sat.

So it can be done safely.

I did try to answer.  Just off the Mardi Gras Jan 8.  Most complied, but there were those few idiots that think the rules don't apply to them.  The staff did try to enforce, but short of calling security, there was not much they could do if the passenger refused.  I, myself, did "remind" several players at 3 card about the mask rule.  For the most part, after grumbling, they complied.  Hell I even handed out masks to people.

I appreciate your input. Currently on the Apex where the mask policy started on January 3.  Enjoy your Seashore cruise.

If one does not suffer any consequences by ignoring a crewmembers "suggestion" to mask up/wear your mask correctly, is that enforcement?  At the moment you are not "warned" or fined if you choose not to wear your mask 99% of the time.  Full disclosure, I wore my mask all the time when indoors; sharing my direct experience/observations.

Was on the Glory a month ago, the only enforcement was in the casino by pitbosses when playing table games who threatened to kick you off the table (still no real consequence).  Otherwise walking around the casino, playing slots or sitting at the casino bars or anywhere else on the ship there wasn't any real enforcement.  You may encounter a crewmember "reminding" you to "mask up" or to wear your mask correctly, but if you ignored them there was no further consequences.  There were some other places where you may get stopped/denied service if maskless such as the guest service line, spa, excursions, when getting off and on the ship, etc.

So, it seems like it's status quo in Carnival land.  They come up with policies to make them look good and then as usual the majority of the time the rules are not enforced.  It can vary by ship or sailing.  There is never a fleet wide mandate that is ever implemented and enforced say 95% of the time.

The educated Carnival cruiser knows that more often than not they will be able to push the envelope and get away with not following the rules.  Occasionally they will be reprimanded but as soon as the enforcer is out of sight range, it's back to status quo and doing what you want to do.

Start leaving people on the dock in some port of call and the masks will magically start being worn.

I agree.  Are there other lines doing that?
