Key Access - Haven and non haven room

Right now we have 2 non haven rooms booked.  One will have our 17/20 year old and the other us.   We were told we can go to guest services and have our keys granted access to each others rooms.  If we were to upgrade one room to Haven, would we still be allowed to do that?   Also, since my husband and I each have to have a name on a room, will that cause any issue with Haven access, since  technically it's my son's name on the room with me?

I am not speaking of any amenities,  just room access.

Only the passengers booked in the Haven can enjoy the Haven. Your husband would not be able to enjoy the bar, restaurant, lounge, pool or other Haven amenities. You will be able to let them into your suite, but I am not sure if they will give you additional Haven access keys.  Perhaps someone else can address that one.

Can he trade keys with my son to have access, instead of my son?  I guess that's my question.

Thank you.

I don't believe so.  (Your husband can have access to the cabin using the key, but not the Haven common areas).  The Haven staff has pictures (using the key cards) and usually by day 2 they are very familiar with who should be in the common areas.

THAT 👆👆👆👆👆

Unfortunately only people booked in the Haven suite can enjoy the Haven perks. It makes sense. Otherwise everyone on the ship would be crammed in the Haven! 😂

That’s been my experience, too.  That said, I have asked if someone could join me in the Haven for a brief tour.  They allowed that, but one of the Concierges accompanied us around the Haven.

I’m sure it was because because NCL wanted to emphasize the type of service Haven guests can expect.  I think the other reason was to keep “non-Haven guests” from wandering around the Haven.

The Concierges know who is and isn’t a Haven guest, however. I believe they have pics of Haven Guests on their computer when you pass by them from the Haven entrance.

Like most have said, If you are not Booked in a Haven Suite, you can not utilize the Haven Amenities. Also If you are  Booked inside the Haven thy may not issue extra Key cards.

When you use your card to enter, your name and picture pops up on the concierge's screen.

This is accurate, i even asked one cruise and she was like " I am good but I am not that good to remember everyones names after 2 hours on the ship lol"

How is this managed on the Jewel class ship Havens?  There isn't a "Concierge" stationed there watching.  Once one is "in", such as to get to most (not all) of the Haven suites, there is access to the Haven common area.

There is usually someone (Concierge or assistant) stationed at the entrance to the special restaurant used for the breakfasts and lunches, but that's not within the Haven on those ships.

For the Jewel class ships, there is a courtyard butler in  the daytime, and the stewards are around most of the day. Plus the actual butlers are in and out throughout the day as well. In all the times I've been in the Haven, it has never been a problem. I so much prefer the smaller Jewel class Havens!

Jewel class Havens are also much smaller with fewer Haven guests….much easier to know who is/isn’t a Haven guest.

My question had to do with whether someone could get "into" the Haven area to go to someone's Haven suite (sorry if that wasn't clear).  Previous answer was about how access to the general Haven area was monitored.  That isn't the case in Jewel class ships (or at the least on the Pearl; we haven't yet been on other Jewel class ships, but I understand the Haven area is similar).

I don't think that someone who is not a Haven guest would have much trouble using the keycard from someone in a Haven suite on the Pearl to go directly to that person's suite, if they aren't trying to get into the Haven common area.

And there is nothing inappropriate in having guests come to one's Haven suite.  It's access to the Haven common area that is restricted.

OK....I hear what you're asking now.

I have only been in one Jewel Class Haven Suite....and that was for a party (a CC Cabin Crawl) in a Garden Villa.  Pretty danged incredible Suite complete with the Butler serving canapé and serving drinks.  I even think @mking8288 was there with his beautiful wife.  That was more than a couple of years ago, and it was on the GEM.

I do remember the host (whose name escapes me right now) said he had to get permission to allow us into his Suite. And, we had to be escorted into the Haven and his Villa.

What I don't know is if any of that has changed in the ensuing years.

The Haven area on the GEM was quite small.  And, we had to march through it to get to the suite.  So, if you aren't staying in the Haven, you'll be conspicuous.

All that being said, when I sailed the Encore last year, I asked for a tour of the Haven on that ship (including a vacant Haven Spa Suite) through the Customer Service Dept.  They had to get the permission of the General Manager.  And, I had to be escorted and accompanied by the General Manager's Assistant the entire time I was there.  They did not allow me to wander around unaccompanied.

That's a long winded way of saying that I've done what you're asking.  But, it wasn't as easy as just using someone's key card to open a Haven Suite.

Thanks all.   I decided to call and get a price on upgrading both rooms to Haven, and Haven is sold out. So, that solved that issue.

I am sure you will have a great cruise. Enjoy the time with your family. 😊
