Almost lost our non-refundable OBC

Recommended Posts

This was our error, but shareable so others don't make the same mistake

1) I thought the last time I cashed out our non-refundable OBC in the casino I did it the night before we got off the ship.

2) I didn't read the compass for day 7. Read every other compass, but didn't read the only one I really needed to read ..lol

Went to cash in $179 on board credit non-refundable and the casino was empty.

Refundable OBC I wasn't worried about. I knew that would be returned to the credit card.

Went into the casino, couldn't figure out why there was nobody there.

Then walked by the retail stores and they were closed.

This was  9 pm on the night before our cruise ends.

Went to customer service to ask, only to find out if I had read the compass I would have known both the casino & stores were closed all day on our 7th day.

So there was no where to cash out the funds. No where to spend it. No gift cards to buy. Spa wasn't open.

There was no way I was going to give up that amount of money. I even asked if I could give it to our housekeeper.-- No can do.

So, was told, the only place to buy anything and spend it was the photo shop.

Well we didn't have any photos taken on the entire trip...lol

It was either lose the money or find something in the photo store to buy.

Well goodness knows we didn't need picture frames or gadgets.

Looked at binoculars but they weren't the kind we wanted.

So my awesome husband ended up with a GoPro.

Which is fine bcuz he bikes 35 miles, hikes 2x a week and I will feel good knowing he has on a "body cam" of sorts in case something happens.

But lesson learned, don't wait until the last minute to do things.

Bcuz losing OBC could potentially end your vacation on a bad note.

Hope this helps...

Just curious, why was everything closed?

Could have been a port day the last day and then when sailing back the ship never sailed into international waters.  Happens with the round trip Alaska cruises that stop in Victoria and then only have to sail to Seattle

I am wearing a beautiful new watch from an overloaded OBC account. 😉

Lol I bought 2 watches thanks to covid cancellations obc. I'm good with spending obc. More specialty dining and more excursions. I got 3 excursions on my cruises starting sunday. I'll owe some money, picked out 2 to use obc, then found a 3rd. I must be the only person who likes excursions.

One time in 13 I did take some obc out as cash since restart. I had to stop buying as I could barely close my suitcase. 2 set of these towels (aqua says grandeur OTS). Bulky. A long sleeve shirt, not quite a sweatshirt. The best bottle of tequila they had on board. Little trinkets, magnets and pens. I'll get a allure magnet in december.

Women's watches I've found fewer choices in small face watches.

If I see tee shirts in the ports I get 1 or 2. No need to over pack. Add to shirts during cruises.

I am disappointed lobster isnt included in chops price. I'd spend more on food if I saw better value. Izumi not included in bogo.

Can I ask, how do you cash out your OBC at the Casino?   We are not gamblers and although we are Diamond members we don't even know how to use our credit we get for that.   On our last sailing in April (TA on Wonder), we took part in the slot pull, which happened a few days into our cruise, and I asked a few people afterwards how we could use our Diamond credit, and we were told we were too late, it had to be used by Day 2 or 3!!!    We are about to sail again at the end of October and we have quite a bit of OBC even after buying dining package, and I don't want to lose it.

Any advice appreciated.

Here is a thread that explains how to do it:

For the freebie money, you choose "Promo" when transferring to the slot machine.

They certainly could have but chose not to.

Biker, who was on the same sailing as the OP and cashed in the OBC during the first couple of days.

Beautiful watches!!  🤗

I have learned to take on a folding duffel bag for possible "extras" that find their way home with me.  😉  Actually do a bit of Christmas shopping in the ports as well.
