We had dinner at the MDR last night with my folks. Service was sloooooow (2.5hrs) and our server must have been new. She brought the wrong thing 3x and didn't know the menu.

I ordered the meatballs for my app, she brought me matzo ball soup.

Hubby ordered a peach Bellini, she brought a Peroni beer.

Kept giving everyone the wrong meal so we have to shuffle plates to the right person. Everything was quickly fixed and she apologized, but we had never had so many mix ups in one night.

Early after dinner the moon was insane again. Around 9pm it was blood red and low near the water, the photos don't even do it justice.

Closed out the bar again with more beer shots for everyone up there.

No Uber or Lyft available in St John today, so you'll need to find a taxi if you wanted to head to moosehead on your own. We'll be off the ship in about an hour, I'll see if there's a taxi stand nearby.

I know the usually open the District late on port days but this is not showing any hours of operation for the District. Is it really closed for Day 7?

Sorry I am not onboard. I am just posting the photos for @SalthMate Perhaps he or @Sailing12Away can answer your question.

You're so sweet to check, thank you! If getting a taxi isn't obvious, I may call them and ask easiest way to get there from the market, we're doing the Foodie Tour, but then have all afternoon to explore. Enjoy your day!!!

This is an excellent Joy update and as live as one can be, thank you for taking and find the time to organize the info & to upload, share and give us useful info.   Still using those "free" WiFi minutes and how is it uploading while at sea.

Is the unavailability of Uber/Lyft just on the day of the ship's visit, or for other reasons - how many other ships are in St. John at the same time ??  We are going to be on the Joy shortly and from what we know already, plenty of company with other ships visiting and docking for the same days ...

Do you know (or can ask & find out) if Food Republic was / is going to be open on full sea days for lunch services - instead of doing dinner there, we might go there & do lunch instead, thanks in advance.

Last but not least, if you know, will US-CBP be doing the custom & border formalities at the first US port on the way back to NY as that should speed up disembarkation.  Has there been any issues with ship's facial recognition tech at the gangway as on our previous Joy cruise, they weren't always reliable or consistent - causing foot traffic jams ...

Enjoy and thanks again for all the great photos & info.

I'm not sure about The District today. I'm keeping it "low key" today with my sore throat situation, so I'm staying in my suite. @Sailing12Away will probably have the answer.

how does your cell phone signal work in Canada ? what kind of provider do you use?

I have Xfinity Mobile. And, I am signed up with an International calling plan that kicks in when I'm off the ship in a foreign port. In the Canadian ports, the signal has been fine.

Facial recognition was only used once this whole trip, have to pull out the key card at each stop.

Today the carnival magic is docked here with us. At the terminal building waiting for our tour, I tried checking Uber again and there's no cars in our area at all. Maybe closer to city center there will be some to get back, I'll try to check again.

Last night there was a letter in our cabin about immigration. Need to head to Cagney's tomorrow between noon -2pm with passport, different location for non US citizens. So I'm guessing this is to make things faster/easier on the last day.

My cell phone is with T-Mobile. We have free calls, texts & 5g wifi on land. So I've been waiting until we're on land for photo & video uploads. The free wifi still has about 150 mins left, but it's best used for quick checks of email and such. Spend more time logging in and out than actually on the internet. But on a trip with lots of ports it's fine for our needs.

I'll look into food republic, we wanted to try it for lunch too so I'll see if it will be open.

I'll let @Sailing12Awayanswer the Food Republic question. As far as other cruise ships here in St. John with us today - only the Carnival Magic. Security only used the facial recognition once and it seemed to work o.k. (slight delay getting the camera lined up on your face). All other times, they have been using our ship card. Yes, we got a notice that we will be going through CBP (Immigration) tomorrow afternoon (12:30 pm) after we arrive in Portland, ME (1st U.S. port).

Moosehead was good, we got to try 6 beers inside including an unpasteurized lager. At the end of their experiment room was a bar to buy extra tastes of other stuff.

There's some weird rules regarding what you can drink there vs what has to go home. Lots of stuff we wanted to bring home but you could only drink those there or they were sold as a 12 pack. Hard to justify buying that much when we already have so much in the room we're bringing home.

But their neon series was awesome. The fruit punch tasted like Hawaiian punch, went down scary fast. Blue raspberry was like the blue quarter waters we drank as kids. We settled for an espresso and grapefruit to bring home and slammed back 3 cans of stuff we couldn't bring home while there before leaving. The bartenders were great though and kept opening ones we couldn't bring home and letting everyone share a taste of them.

I'm now fighting off the start of a cold so I wanted to nap. Hubby wanted you spend more time in town since we don't leave until 11pm. He went to a few other nearby bars to sample while I've been napping.

I thought this tour was supposed to stop at the reversing rapids but it didn't. We drove over the bridge where they were but never stopped.

The hot dog was from the local before we got off the ship, super crispy bacon... Mmmhhhmmm.

Enjoying your report!  We will be doing the same cruise on the Oct 12 sailing .

Do you know if they are having the fun dress all in white event on your cruise?  Want to know if we should bring white tops, etc.

Enjoy the rest of your cruise.

Thanks.

If you're using the free at sea perk, you get 2 picks from the left side of the menu (apps + pasta) and 1 from the right (pizza + entrees

I tried this out a few nights ago on the Getaway. Then I tested my theory. We ordered several apps, more than just the pasta and app the server claimed we could get. She warned us there would be an extra charge. There wasn't. I know it doesn't help you now, but you can currently order as much pasta and apps as you'd like, and ignore the servers warnings. At least in Getaway.

Keep having a stunning time!

Did you ever get your hash browns? I'm going to try again tomorrow... Fingers crossed.

None! There was no resupply in Miami. It was sad, but I forgot the depression and enjoyed myself the last few days.

Good luck today on finding some!

The fog last night was insane, pulling into Portland this morning it seems to have followed us. Adding some videos from yesterday, as well as my plate of comfort food from the buffet. I'm nursing a cold, but I think a dose of DayQuil will help so I can head into town for a quest to find donuts.
