Koningsdam dry dock in 2023?

I saw in a comment from HAL on their Instagram that some itineraries for the Koningsdam in Spring 2023 were cancelled because the ship is going into dry dock. Any idea why?

Drydocks are required on a regularly scheduled basis for certain below the waterline work. Perfectly normal, nothing to worry about.

The Koningsdam's last drydock was in 2018 so, in addition to doing required inspections and maintenance outside of sight of passengers, it is likely they may do some housekeeping updates such as replacing mattresses, carpeting, furniture, etc. to refresh the passenger experience.

 

It's also possible they could do some reconfiguration things to match lessons learned through building the Rotterdam.  One possibility that comes to mind might be to update the K's Club Orange dining room and adjacent "Blend" wine bar to match the more upscale look of the Rotterdam's Club Orange and changing "Blend" to the Half Moon bar.  I'm guessing they make much more profit off the Half Moon bar than on the less-frequently used "Blend" wine mixing experience.

They may also match the Rotterdam in changing the now-unused Microsoft Studio space into a Library.

While I could see them changing blend into a bar I’m more sceptical about them doing anything they don’t have to like a club orange redo.  That’s just extra money for no big upside.  As always I’m prepared to admit I’m wrong.

I sure hope they do something with Blend. We were surprised that nice bar space was empty virtually our entire cruise.

Definitely  upholster  the worn out seats in the  Lido  &  no doubt some cabin furnishings

She was in very good shape on recent 2022-23 cruise.

 

Did not see any obvious need for refurbishment, except closing off the smoking area on the aft pool area, creating a special cigar room if the continue to allow cigars out doors, and providing shade for the underused lounger decks above the aft pool - very wasted, but lovely space for general use.

She is going into drydock April 2023.

Yep...discussed quite a bit when they make the adjustments in the March/April schedules to allow for the drydock.

Listed as in dry dock between March 25th and April 12th. Our cruise was postponed because of it.

Agree the seats in the lido need replacing.  They are disgusting.

That’s disappointing.  Does anyone have pictures so we can see how the condition of the chairs?

It is an artificial vynal fused to fabric and is peeling.

My original cruise planned for this spring was cancelled because of the schedule change when the drydock was scheduled.

On her at present and understand from entertainment staff that some improvements are going to be made to the Pickleball court. We are very impressed by the overall condition of soft furnishings and general appearance of the ship

I was on the Koningsdam in January of 2023 and heard several rooms had extreme noise issues. My room was on deck 1 aft, a family window room category F. The noise we had was a loud rolling slam-bang that made it impossible to sleep. I knew the Koningsdam was going into dry dock for remodeling and I was hoping they would also be able to take care of this noise problem. Do they do this kind of repair when a shop goes in for remodeling? I wasn't the only one complaining about unusual extreme noise.

I am going on Koningsdam in 2024.  What was done to the ship when it was in dry dock in Spring 2023?

That sounds like poor seamanship, as something wasn't properly secured. Drydocking wouldn't help that issue.

We found the chairs on NS to be way to heavy & difficult to move.  Are they the same style on the K?
