And what about the chocolate on your pillow, plus salad and desserts being prepared table side?

Also separate dessert menus and being served bread by the waiter/assistant waiter (placing it on your plate).  Nothing that we can't live without, but things that used to be.

But with the money I save cruising Royal, I can buy a case of chocolate.

Oh, dear. This is exactly how folks (rightly, if cost is their number one factor) explain their choice to cruise another popular line rather than Royal. Is Royal battling its way to the bottom?

If I told you once, I told you a million times, don’t exaggerate!

Plus, I must disagree with your premise. In Dec. of 2022, we cruised in an oceanview stateroom on Celebrity Constellation for $72.50 per person per day. In three weeks, we’ll be boarding Brilliance in an oceanview for $140.50 per person per day. No perks on either reservation. The Connie was a great bargain, and I consider the Brilliance to be a tad overpriced. Still, you can clearly see that our per diem is almost twice as much on Royal, in this case.

We’re so lucky to have them both going out of Tampa.

We're doing a 4 night on Silhouette in February, and we're getting drinks, internet and tips included for less than the Brilliance without all that. Same departure date, same cruise length.

I wonder if the left hand is talking to the right hand over at RCL.

Ugh!  Note, no reduction in gratuities, no reduction in fares.  Just less service.

But in before all the cheerleaders:

1.  it doesn't matter to me because of xyz

2.  at least we can still cruise and we don't want Royal to go out of business

3.  its still better than at home so it doesn't matter

4.  i reuse my towels to save the environment and you should too you terrible person

5.  Carnival already does this and its fine.

Why do you need TWICE daily service.....seems a bit like overkill.

I normally sail Celebrity but have started cashing in some free casino cruises on RCL. I love the Diamond drink vouchers I get on RCL and because of them, I have no need for a beverage package. That being said, for almost the same cost, you can sail Celebrity with All Included for about the same price. It surprised me that Celebrity, being the higher end cruise line, is actually cheaper. Enjoy you cruise on Silhouette, we did the TA in October on her and she is a great ship.

Did you question the need all the years that it occurred? Are you questioning the need for suites to continue twice a day? I don't think it is overkill to get dirty glasses, plates, and towels out of the cabin twice a day.

We are all different but I normally tell my cabin steward to only give us a nightly service or one service on port days when we are gone. We don't make a huge mess and typically don't eat in the cabin. When I am in a suite, I am the same person that I was while sailing in an Oceanview cabin so the same rules apply. Those cabin steward work way too hard and I like to make their life a bit easier.

At home I pick up my own plates, make my own bed, cook my own food. I cruise because I enjoy a vacation where other people (who should be adequately compensated) do those things for me. Including twice a day cabin service.

It's one of the things that makes cruising a unique vacation experience.

I have no problem with what works for you. Obviously I will have to make due with what is offered to me. That may mean putting the stuff that I don't want in the cabin out in the passageway with all the room service stuff and dirty drink glasses I see out there that no one wants in their cabins.

The Cruise Hive Article stated that "The notice goes on to clarify that Junior Suite staterooms and higher categories will still receive 2 housekeeping services per day."  Has anyone heard whether that is going to be the policy.  We sail in a JS or a full suite and GS and higher have a higher gratuity charge.

We were on the Summit December 3 and the ship was only at 40% capacity.

Cabin's I've been in only seen Pullman's down whole Cruise. If wanted out of way easy just fold up parallel to the wall.

So you can close them securely without a key but only need a key to bring them down? Or do you close it without securely latching it? I'm trying to figure out some logistics for this once a day service with pullmans and having space during the day. Thanks.

My biggest concern is what will happen with Sofa-beds for 3rd and 4th guests. These take up quite a bit of room, especially on Quantum and newer Oasis class, and make it difficult to manoeuvre around the cabin. Would these cabins still receive a morning and evening service?

Anyone care to share their recent experience with this situation?

It's currently only a test on Quantum, over in Australia. So not sure there will be many people here on Cruise Critic with any experience.

Currently on Jewel

Twice a day is the norm

I told my steward once a day, during dinner is fine. What I've noticed is the room is not as thoroughly cleaned. Probably becauce they have less time at night, just a guess.

It's still pretty good

On Explorer for 3 sailings. Cabin attendants are aware of the test but no news of when a decision will be made. They would go from 18 cabins up to 25 each. They are not happy.

Why aren't they happy?  They will make more gratuities with 7 extra cabins.
