Vaping Email Response from Celebrity

This appears to be their attempt to go head to head with MSC and Carnival and to attract that lower end cruising market. Same with getting rid of the lobster and filet, any place to squeeze a few more bucks, but be competitive on the booking price. People will use the casino as a place to smoke when they don't find it convenient to go outside and Celebrity will make a few extra dollars.

I received a phone call from Celebrity head office this am...
They claim
1) This is only a test / pilot project for 8 weeks on 2 ships
2) Vaping is only allowed in specific areas of Casino - not the entire Casino (On CC reports are that it is entire Casino)
3) Vapors must be actively gambling
4) So far "Not impacting the present sailing guests at all"

If 2 & 3 from above are being disregarded than a report should be made to Guest Services immediately and action will be taken...

Further they do not want to loose me as a loyal customer....  Therefore my concerns have been noted...

At least I rated a phone call not a form letter / email response....

I would love to know how they can conclusively state #4, and how they can even say they about one or two days into the “test”.

Royal can’t seem to stop non gamblers from smoking, as they congregate around an ashtray near a slot machine, I doubt that their sister will be diligent in their efforts.

I know I know!!!  But at least I got a phone call... I made sure she noted my strong objection and the fact that we will walk our money elsewhere should this policy become permanent....

I sent in my email yesterday, along with strong disagreement with how they handled the Beyond redeployment. No email or call yet.

If someone gets a phone call - ask what is the metrics for this test period?

1. How do they know vapers are spending more money than they did before?

2. Exposure to employees- are they taking Xrays/Cat scans of their lungs and blood work to see if they have experienced any medical issues.

3. How are they determining what guest are effected and who was not - are they speaking to each guest who gambles and who walks thru the casino?

I would like to know the parameters of this "test" or is it a fly by your pants.

I didn't get the form letter but it has no basis for the claim "not impacting present guests". I wish I would have stated these things on my phone from them. I will right another letter. UGGG

The average CC participant must be naive to the amount of folks who vape in their cabins. I’d guess it’s a lot more than anyone realizes. It’s not my thing but people who vape are going to do it all over the ship. Including but not limited to cabins, public restrooms, and outdoor areas.

I guess that makes it okay, huh?

No, not at all but people should realize it’s impossible to enforce or deter passengers from vaping in their cabins or anywhere on the ship with some sort of privacy. I suppose security could inspect every bag and confiscate any vaping items they discover upon embarking.

What ideas do you have to stop passengers from partaking in this activity?

I don’t know.  Maybe establish a smoking and vaping area and tell people where they can do it?  And take reports from pax who smell or see it and yes some of us can and do.

I guess I’ll just have to depend on people not being so self centered that they endanger the health of other people.  Maybe I’m overthinking this because vape exhaust is just CO2, right?

Do you honestly believe that people who vape care about the health of others? Or have any idea of what they are inhaling or exhaling?

I suppose reporting incidents may seem like it could help. I would guess 75% of the crew members smoke or vape themselves. So when they receive the report are they actually going to swing into action and go bust the vaper? Or are they going to give you lip service, tell you what you want to hear, act like it’s a very serious matter, and then go down below to light one up themselves?

I’m just trying to be realistic here. I wish there was a way that vaping and smoking could be completely banned but I doubt that will ever be implemented on Celebrity.

I can be pretty annoying and persistent when I need to be.  Ever hear of the squeaky wheel?

And no, I don’t think smokers or vapers care about anyone but themselves.

Well one place to start is the cabin attendant. They are in every cabin every day and are sure to be able to smell the lingering odours. This could lead to warnings to the offenders. They may be hesitant for fear of losing any gratuities though.

This chip, chip, chipping away at the Celebrity brand since January has really gotten my dander up so I'll keep harp, harp, harping away at corporate.  Clean air should trump an addiction.  And I'll be complaining loudly, then and there, on the spot (cell phone is always in my pocket) if I encounter vaping in indoor spaces, casino excepted for now. I don't intend to passively abide being enveloped in vapor.  I'm seriously pi$$ed that I need to make final payment for a 16 night cruise before this little experiment concludes.  I wonder how many "new and improved" experiments they have waiting in the wings to add to room service charge, room service menu reductions, deep cuts to evening OVC , MDR menu cuts, hamburger addition, lobster charge, vaping....  They quietly pulled back a few zenith amenities, too, but I don't really care about any of those.

This potential change is radically different in nature from reductions and cost changes since it can and will impact some people's health.

I sent off my email and emphasized the risk of alienating existing customers to gain ancillary revenue in the Casino. One of the highest cost to a business is customer acquisition.  It's much more expensive to obtain new customers than retain your existing customer base. Hopefully the seemingly overwhelming negative opinion being voiced by Celebrity customers will not be ignored.

What evidence do you have that 75% of the crew smoke or vape?

Why would the % in the crew be higher than in the general population?

Crew have designated smoking areas and it's not right that any of them should be required to work in a smoky atmosphere.

As a point of interest a question for our American posters: Is vaping permitted in any indoor office/work space in the US?

That is why in my follow-up to the form response I said I hope that they encourage their crew to enforce this by being clear that there will be no punitive actions against them because of complaints. Let them know the company will stand behind them when they are enforcing the rules.

You're nobody 'til somebody loves you
You're nobody 'til somebody cares
You may be king, you may possess the world and it's gold
But gold won't bring you happiness when you're growing old
The world still is the same, you never change it
As sure as the stars shine above
You're nobody 'til somebody loves you
So find yourself somebody to love

This is really "FUNNY"...

> I have not sailed Celebrity in nearly 8 months

> I do not have any Celebrity sailings booked, mainly owing to the out of control pricing on mid/upper tier suites, and the fact that the Blue Chip Club has not sent an offer my way in over a year.

> When I call them, they no longer offer 60% off, but rather 10% off their full rates (meaning that I'd pay more going through them than taking advantage of a promo)

> TODAY I see I have a BCC offer coming in the mail

> and TODAY I discovered that Celebrity is trying to sneak smoking (well, vaping is the SAME in my book) back into their casinos. The smoke free casinos on Celebrity are one of the biggest draws for me

----------------------

So, what's going on - I thought that bookings were supposedly quite high, but now they're reaching out to me after a long hiatus, AND they're trying to lure vapers into their casinos?

WTH ! ?

Wow!  I’ve never had someone write a song just for me before.  I can’t stop crying.  Have you released an album yet?

Are you holding a cigarette and a mixed drink while singing the song. 😉
