One person in cabin with drinks package

Forgive me if this is a repetitive question, but I could not find it in the forum. If one person in the cabin buys a drinks package, what is to stop him/her from ordering a drink for a companion? It this done completely on the honor system or is there some other method for snagging a rule-breaker?

If you're both staying in the same cabin it is mandatory for your partner to purchase the drink package as well unfortunately.  My husband drinks, I don't but I'm forced to pay for it as well...

Both have to buy the plus or premier fare but only one in the cabin can purchase the drink package if you have purchased the standard fare. Perhaps that has changed over the last few months but I see it as still available.

If you are caught sharing with anyone they cancel your package without refund and make you pay for all drinks obtained up to that point.  A one type single drink might never get caught but going to a bar and ordering two different types of drinks close together will get noticed.  Although folks with packages will often get a drink to try it, not like it, and return for another drink fairly quickly.

Princess clearly states that the beverage packages are not to be shared.  And you won't be able to order 2 different drinks from the same location at the same time.  I will tell you that if Princess/the crew realize you are doing this, they will end the package and you will not be refunded.  Saw this happen on one spring break sailing that I was on to some of the kids that were sharing.

Interesting!!!  Every time I book with NCL, Celebrity, and Princess I'm told we both have to pay for the drink package but we always do the all inclusive rather than ship only fare so maybe that's why....thanks!

Both passengers in the cabin must buy the plus (or premier) fare, which includes a beverage package, WiFi and gratuities at minimum.  It now also includes 2 casual dining options.

So, the fare for the Plus Package is currently $60 a day pp. so, it’s $120 for a double occupancy cabin.

Gratuities per day for 2 passengers in a standard cabin = $32 a day

WiFi for one device each for 2 passengers (non elite status) = $30 a day

Plus Standalone Beverage Package for 1 passenger = $77 a day

So, now, even without the casual dining, with the assumption that you would both purchase the WiFi and wouldn’t remove the gratuities, the charge for 2 passengers in a cabin would come to $139 .. even with just one WiFi device activation, it would still come out to $124 .. more than you’d pay if you both just each got the package fare instead of the standalone beverage package for one.
I am sure Princess studied this carefully so, it wouldn’t really pay to cheat!

On Princess there are two ways to have the drink package. One way is to book with the Plus or Premier fare in which case both parties in the cabin must have that fare. The other way is to purchase the stand-alone Plus drink package. That can be held by a single person in the cabin with no need for the other occupant to pay for it. However, that is a ridiculously expensive way to purchase drinks as that method doesn't include Internet, Juice Bar, or Daily Gratuities.

Yea it is. Back in the day, that was the only way for a beverage package but now it's a crazy price.

That's not correct. I did this many times, and it never was a problem.

Using just one medallion?

I have tried it several times and just got refused all the time so I stopped asking. The thing was that the drinks were for me (ordering doubles mainly) so it wasn't even that I was sharing. I can't find any specific rule in the T&Cs that prohibits the ordering of two drinks at a time on one package but I suspect that they restrict it to prevent sharing which is not allowed.

Two different drinks at the same time from your package at the same venue?   I know if the bartenders know you and know your traveling partner, they will do this but if they know that only one of you has the drink package, I wouldn't think they would give you two included cocktails.

The premier and plus fares you both have to have, the drink package you do not.

Yes. I did that on the Sapphire in May and just recently on the Regal.

Yes. But I travel solo, maybe they see it on their screen.

I don't know. Ordering 1 Cocktail + 1 beer or wine was always fine for them.

Just off the Crown Princess.  We booked with just the standard fare.  As my wife doesn't drink it did not make sense to buy the premier or plus package.  However once on board the person soliciting people to buy the package would have allowed me to buy either package just for myself.  However, I had so much onboard credit that I didn't need it to cover my drinks and gratuities and we don't use the internet at all.  WE ended the cruise with $1.96 in refundable credit.

That is because they would have sold you a beverage package which does not include Wi-Fi or tips and costs more than the plus package

If you purchase a stand alone beverage package then that is individual. If you purchase one of the inclusive fares then the first two passengers in the cabin both are required to purchase the inclusive fare. As a note the stand alone beverage package is not very cost effective. Do the math.

What if I am cruising solo and want to order drinks delivered to my room. Can I order more than one drink (non alcoholic if that matters)?
I do plan to leave a tip so I don’t want to order drinks multiple times.

Yes. Obviously. Given you're the only one in the cabin.

I wasn’t sure if they allowed it in case they thought you were sharing with someone, like other posters talking about not being able to order multiple drinks at a bar.

They're not monitoring who's in your cabin with you. Honestly. Room service is way too busy to be paying that type of attention..

Of course, if you're ordering 5 different drinks at a time over and over and over, yeah - suspicion may arise, but overall, doesn't matter.

Personally, I've been had a problem ordering two or 3 drinks for myself at a time, including a water, quick beer and a shot all at once.

On past trips we always ordered 2 sets of double shots without any question. 2 for the husband, 2 for me. My husband usually went to the bar for the drinks using only his medallion and asked to have the order split on each medallion.

If it were a mixed drink then we just got one each although I suspect if we ordered 4 mixed drinks in total at one time they might have questioned us.

My husband ordered 2 drinks at a time on a regular basis with no questions asked.  One was always for me, but they always deducted the 2 drinks from his package and not mine. It got to the point where he exceeded his 15 drink daily allowance and they started charging him.  The bartenders are so busy I don't think they "look" that closely at what package the other cabin mate has.  I think they enter it into the system and fix the drink.  The computer either counts as 1 drink towards the package or $x towards the bill.  They never mentioned to my husband that he exceeded his limit.  We only noticed it by checking our portfolio.  I'm not suggesting anyone should abuse the honor system.  However, it was much nicer getting ready for dinner when my husband went and got us pre-dinner drinks instead of impatiently waiting for me to curl my hair!

Same thing happened to us, consistently when we hit the 15 mark.

It didn't make any difference if my husband brought both medallions to the bar or not.

I just take both medallions to the bar. Of course by the 3rd day most bartenders in Crooners, Wheelhouse or casino know us well and our accounts. Yes we primarily sail on Grand class ships

The packages they were trying to sell me were inclusive of drinks, gratuities and internet.
