Just wondering if you have all seen the Gareth Gates Video about the bullying from his neighbours on the ship out in the Caribbean. Not sure which ship but could be Arvia I suppose or Britannia. It's disgusting what is wrong with people. Apparently it's 3 middle age women in cabin 8206 who he has also heard taking about their children and grandchildren , so should know better, taking the mickey out of his stutter and other things for days.  He posted on his own page on a well known SM page and others have reposted on P & O pages. He wants to raise awareness of bullying and says the women should be ashamed of themselves

Is this happening now or in the past?

I was on Arvia or Iona with him recently. He was a lucky enough to train next to me in the gym! Lol

He always had headphones on whenever I saw him. Probably to avoid being stopped or spoken to all the time. Which I totally understand.

Ive not looked at the above video. Maybe he should have confronted them?  Maybe he already has and it didn't work?

I have just seen it. I do not understand the mindset of people who think it is acceptable to behave like that. It is disgusting and nobody deserves to be subjected to it. I can understand why Gareth himself did not want to confront the three women and instead his partner felt she had to as it was relentless, but it should have also been reported to the ship.

I'm not sure if you have read in the comments section that two popular cruise bloggers are also on Arvia, Ben and David. They have left a comment for Gareth that they too have been subjected to homophobic verbal abuse and foul language being shouted at them. A fellow passenger in reply has mentioned a fight in the casino and some other unacceptable behaviour that has occurred during this cruise.

On  a P & O social media page they confirmed they are addressing the behaviour with the guests concerned  and have  checked in on the welfare of Gareth.

I’ve just seen the video Gareth posted and I think it quite disgraceful that three women (mothers and grandmothers) who should know better behaved like that. I hope P&O look into it, but sadly, unless the incidents were recorded - nothing will happen.

What is even sadder, is that his whole life people have continually teased him about his stutter - but to have people do it knowing he was sitting on the next door balcony listening to them, is quite awful.

@Interestedcruisefan (and for anyone else who is unable to view the video) - About 4/5 days ago, Gareth and his partner were leaving their cabin and bumped into the occupants of the cabin next door. The cabin occupants were three women which he would describe being around his mothers age. Since then, each time Gareth and his partner were using their balcony the women next door (obviously aware that Gareth and his partner were outside) subjected them to constant verbal abuse, including singing Changes by David Bowie.

He tried to ignore it the first time, but after 3 days of hearing it relentlessly his partner went round to the cabin to politely ask them to stop and they did. He felt as a man he himself could not approach the three women.

Yesterday he released a video detailing the experience and as a means to bring awareness to the fact if we stand up to bullying then we can make it stop.

I agree, and I hope that P&O do take a firm approach to this.

In general, lately we have heard more reports of inappropriate passenger behaviour and worryingly how it is not being addressed by the ships crew (smoking on balconies, children in adult only pools or the swim up bar area, dress codes not being adhered to etc...). The more the crew let things slide will unfortunately encourage even more of the behaviour to occur.

.... And the more the long tine users of P & O will move elsewhere.

This saddens me so much. We saw Gareth Gates in the Limelight Club pre Covid and he was so lovely. At the end of his show, he was happy to spend time with the audience and patiently posed for photos with anyone who wanted one. Not all the acts are so generous.

It is a minority who are cruel and mean but their words and actions can live with people forever.

One of the ladies accused of bullying was a grandma. Who's to say she's not a long term P and O user herself?

You never know?

If there is enough evidence these people should be banned by P&O and the information shared with other cruise lines.

We also saw Gareth Gates in the Limelight Club pre COVID. We didn’t know what to expect but we thought he was great and would go and see him again.

Depending on what was actually said they could be in breach of the Disability Discrimination act.

If that doesn't work he could always send his SAS "mates" round to sort them out😉

The DDA was replaced by the Equality Act in 2010, which covers all forms of discrimination.

Perhaps a senior officer banging on their door and telling them " you have 2 choices, grow up and apologise, or get of the ship at the next port ". That might work.

Given that GG said which cabin those “ladies” were in, I imagine a few passengers might have done that already! 🤣

I too used to have a bad stammer, but it's almost gone as I have got older, but I fully understand how Gareth must have felt.  I really feel for him. He seems a really lovely man, and a father to boot. He seems to have a great partner. Those women should be banned from all cruise ships.

Gareth  himself  put a follow up post on his social media  thanking the management onboard  who  dealt with the situation , gave the 3 women a warning ...

They got off lightly, lets hope they learn from that.

Their names will be  noted on file for any future cruises booked with P&O for sure.  Cruiselines have records like airlines do for troublesome passengers . We know people who were barred from RCI
