Move Up - how close to sailing?

Recommended Posts

How close to sailing date do you think they do "Move ups"?  I was not getting the website to work, so I emailed them.  They finally responded & said they would send me a link w/in 72 hours.  I sail in 11 days.  Not sure if it matters, but the ship is full if I go to do a mock booking. I'm in smallest inside cabin with a "free" casino offer, if that matters.  Thanks, Kris

They can upgrade you anytime after bidding but usually around 72-96 hours.  If you are a potential upgrade your offer may turn to pending and all others cancelled around this time. ... This is usually a good sign.

If you were not a winner you will receive your rejection at 48 hours prior to the cruise departure.

I have never participated in the move up program. I recently inquired about a cabin category that was being offered to those as a move up to bid on. I was informed that the category was full and the move up program will list cabins, even on sold out sailings, to capture extra revenue in the event of last minute cancellations and no shows. They told me it is possible to be notified on the day of sailing but it is usually earlier.

I just read somewhere on CC today that comp casino cruises are not able to participate in MoveUp.

I was able to bid and won my Aqua class while on a free Blue Chip cruise

We received notification of a successful Move Up bid 6 weeks before sailing, I was very surprised to receive it that far ahead.

I’ve noticed a trend lately where move up bids, especially for the higher priced staterooms occurred more than a month before the sailing, probably to fill those rooms that were not selling an free up the least expensive rooms hoping to sell them. Then a few rooms win move ups closer to the sail date even though the cruise is sold out, due to last minute cancellations

We were advised last week when we asked about the move up bid option and were told we could not participate due to it being a comped casino cruise.   Our cruise is one month away.

UPDATE - I got the Move up offer even though I had the Free cruise. I currently have the smallest cabin mid ship (which I like).  I guess if I bid, I could end up on an end which could be more movement.  I wish we had a choice to reject the offer LOL.  I see the Deluxe Porthole Veranda starting at only 200pp.  That sounds interesting.  Anyone have any opinion on those cabins?  Thanks!  Kris

I sailed on the Apex several months ago on a comped casino cruise.  I was able to "Move Up" from on IV cabin to a Sky Suite.

Curious as we have never Moved Up, did you find the cost to do so much more of a value than if you have booked a SS without a Move Up?

My move up on the Apex cost a total of $2000 ($1000 ea for my wife and I). Having access to Luminea and the Retreat sundeck along with the larger cabin, I considered it quite a bargain.

Sky Suite to Edge Villa 26 days out. I was surprised it was so early. There were three EV's still available. I guess they wanted to sell my Sky Suite.

Yup. I have some bids pending on the Ascent. 32 days before sailing there were 26 suites of all types available. The next day most were gone and people were reporting successful bids on CC. Unfortunately I wasn’t one of them. Now, 24 days out, the cruise is sold out and isn’t even listed on their website. My only hope is last minute cancellations (which do happen)

I was freaking out because I saw Move Ups for that 1/28 sailing before ours for 1/21. I heard from the Shoreside Retreat Concierge a couple of days ago. He refunded six nights of specialty dining ($600 in OBC and $100+ to my credit card) and rebooked than as gratis.

  • 2 weeks later...

I recently booked a cruise thru a very large warehouse chain.   The agent read the terms and conditions.  It took him about 10 minutes.   When he was finished he asked I had any questions.   I said yes.   Can you repeat that.  🙄😱

One of the things read was that they do not participate in the move up program.  If they don’t other large TAs may also be doing the same.

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅
