What happens now if Covid happens?

I really hate to ask, feels like it may sidetrack the thread, but are people on the ships wearing masks or N95s while in large crowded spaces like theaters or in elevators? I’m sure there are ship-provided handwashing stations at the buffet, and the crew are on top of things disinfecting surfaces, etc. but any thoughts or suggestions on what I can do to be more vigilant and protect myself? Serious inquiry.

The ship can only do so much.  The crew is tested every week.  Most passengers are not wearing masks.  I did, but not as diligently as I normally do.  Caught covid (I'm sure...on an excursion bus at the beginning of the cruise).

On another cruise (post covid but without newest booster), did not catch covid although both of our table mates (breakfast, lunch, dinner) came down with covid.  I'm sure I had lots of antibodies.  Cabin mate did not catch covid (boosted).

You need to assess your risk factor.  I'm not stopping cruising....Hopefully Princess will continue to cover costs.

I’ve done a LOT of research on my ship’s itinerary with its excursions and the respective reviews, especially ones that have bus rides that are 60-90 minutes each way, and have decided to fore-go those ‘adventures’ and optimize the ‘empty ship’ possibilities for those port days. On the one bus ride I will take (in Fuerte Amador for the Panama Canal & Locks Tour By Boat) I’ll wear an N95 for that bus ride. 😁

Covid is endemic now. Like the flu. And it's out of the mind by most people. Maybe cruising isn't the best thing if you are super cautious.

I get the flu shot too lol. Not super cautious (overly worried) to the point I’ll cancel the cruise, and luckily the ship has a rather (comparatively) very low passenger capacity with lots of public spaces to avoid crowds. It’s the right time now to start gathering intel and make lists of things where I can be in that frame of mind to be vigilant and protect myself.

😁

I had no choice.  The main reason for the cruise was an excursion to Williamsburg, VA (bucket list).  I knew the risks.

As for Fuerte Amador, I found a terrific small van that took me from coast to coast in the day.  It was fabulous.  Can't remember the vendor.  The risk was there...we were on one of the last tenders due to traffic.

Thanks to everyone who provided input or opinion or recent experiences. We are super excited to get on our ship next week. We just want to be informed and careful as after our two week cruise on princess we have another two week cruise on holland and want to be as healthy as possible for both trips. Safe travels to everyone planning a trip along the ocean!

Crew are not tested

On my last cruise, I was told by the wait staff and assistant manager that they were tested weekly since I was concerned for their exposure at out table.  I have left covid tests for crew who seemed happy to receive them.

I can assure you crew are not tested every week, and not even when they start a new contract. What crew tell you, and what's reality is different

I can only relay information that is passed on to me first hand.  I see no reason why I would be mislead.  I am not here is dispute what is or is not.

Our daughter works on Princess, all is not what it appears

We were on the Island Princess in September 2023 for two weeks. By the middle of the second week the theater, and buffet sounded like tuberculosis wards. I avoided them as much as possible for the rest of the trip. When we got home, 3 out of four of us had Covid. The one who didn't catch it had a booster shot weeks before we cruised.

I intend to get boosted before my next cruise.

Most are Not really wearing masks.  We were on 2 cruises for 47 nights that ended last month.  Small percentage of people did mask.

We wore masks in crowded areas like elevators, airplanes, tenders and buses. Very lucky to not get any viruses.  Wash your hands frequently and use disinfectant before eating, if possible.

But, we did avoid people coughing, blowing their nose, etc.  We just moved or got up and left.

There were some on our hall who had covid and quarantined for 5 days, from when the symptoms started, in their own cabin.  We thanked them for self reporting.

Our assistant waiter had it also and quarantined 5 days.

Just protect yourself.  Try not to worry about it and just enjoy your cruise.

Been there, done that. Took a 1 hour bus ride (both directions). Wore N95 masks the whole time and still got Covid. No more buses for me in the foreseeable future.

Have been on 8 cruises since the restart got Covid  on 2 of them. We no longer wear masks in most situations but do find them helpful for playing slots in the smoking area of the casino. We are in buses and trains many times a week here at home and don’t really worry about it anymore.

Since the restart, have been on 23 cruises covering Europe, Transatlantic, Caribbean with no Covid until we got to Australia in Oct.  Then we both got our very first case of Covid.  Like Memoak, we don't worry about it anymore at home or on cruises. Don't forsee it going away anytime soon.
