Ouch! Millennium specialty restaurants - No Murano

The M class used to have the Ocean Liners restaurants. Each one named after a famous ocean liner and they even had memorabilia from the individual ships. These restaurants had a touch of class about them and served the Murano menu as found on the S class fleet.

They also had Qsine, although a little quirky it was a great place for a group of friends to dine and try a pretty extensive menu.

In my opinion replacing 'Murano' with Tuscan was a big mistake. We've tried Tuscan on a number of ships and it's always been a disappointment. LPC is very much a one and done for us so dining options really are limited on these ships and their current offerings lack appeal.

It really is time they were replaced with something new. The lack of quality options onboard really does put us off sailing on M class.

Tuscan Grill is a big disappointment on any ship . I do not think they have changed the menu for a generation.I so not understand the thinking in churning out the same menu year after year. Sushi on 5 is always empty ? . They did an Indian meal in S on 5  on Infinity in Nov 23. It was weird when they dressed up to the theme and served Japanese beer with  a Madras curry. I have to say that the food was tasty but the taste could have been hotter.

However Murano is all theatre these days and every increasing cost.. Le Petit Chef is something you do once or you take the Grandchildren to.

I don't suppose we shall ever see "Ocean Liners "again

No Murano?!!! That stinks. We’ve cruised Celebrity several times and Murano was always our favorite specialty restaurant.

I guess Eclipse (S-class) is my favorite now.  My partner can confirm that I do like an S-class.

Just off Millennium. We've been on her twice before and always got the dining package but had no interest this time. LPC just does not appeal - we used to love Qsine and would eat there at least twice on previous cruises. I'm constantly reading how people think LPC is a one and done and think replacing Qsine with it was a mistake.

We made the mistake of booking the Taj X dinner at Sushi on 5 - what a huge overpriced disappointment that was. Indian food is our favourite and we eat lots of it at home- and on ships. We found the choices pretty boring. The chicken tikka appetiser was so salty we couldn't eat it and the meat  Vindaloo was nothing like a Vindaloo - a thin gravy and not spicy enough. Service was awful, too few waiters serving too many guests. They had the gall to charge $59 plus 20% service for food which we could have picked up for free any day in the buffet. For that price I could have eaten at a 5* Indian restaurant in London

Muranos is a S-Class specialty restaurant, so no M-Class ships has this restaurant.

Does being in the Retreat mean that I can’t ask questions about the ship?  I booked it for the Retreat.  And for that specific itinerary.

No, feel free to ask all the question you want.  I would suggest you take comments on here with a grain of salt.  They are normally not targeted just a text post does not convey non-verbal intent very well.

I said it’s unfortunate that it didn’t have more specialty choices.  Not that I was under my bed crying about it.

True - you have three non-main dining venue's - La Petite Chief, Sushi on Five, and Tuscan Grill.

There are also special meals that are offered, Vueve Clicquot Dinner  and the Taj X (Indian).

We  had signed up for the vueve Clicquot but it was cancelled when 1/2 of the people cancelled due to illness.  We attended the Taj X dinner and thought it was a good experience.  It was held in Sushi on Five.

Maybe they’ll have Chef’s Table in Tuscan.  Murano never made me a banana split like Luminae did.

I cannot remember Chef's Table being offered on our cruise.

I do take comments for what they are worth.  I also ask questions which seems to bother some people.  I won’t cancel my cruise just because of one restaurant.  I would if they got rid of the cloth towels in the bathroom.

I have not been able to find the Veuve Clicquot dinner anywhere.  I’ll be happy in Luminae with my Mac and cheese and banana splits.  I’ll bring on a few cases of Chef Boyardee in case I don’t like the food.

Thanks for the reply.

Oh dear, we've booked a 5 night package for Millenium (during the last sale). I admit this was in the height of all the complaints about the MDR food so thought I'd be assured of a good steak at least at Tuscan for 4/5 of the nights (whilst not my thing, I would consider LPC once for variety).

Hadn't been aware of the 'Taj X' dinner referenced above, I assume, this would not be covered by a dining package?

I'm not too worried about Tuscan myself.  I kicked this off because I thought the choices on Millie could be better.  And it turns out, they used to be.  I thought the food on Tuscan was decent to good.  The service I thought was quite good.  The sommelier in Tuscan on Eclipse gave me a bottle of wine that we brought home just because I asked for two bottles they didn't have.  And he could tell I was getting frustrated as that was keeping me from getting to dessert.  So, on Millie, I could see us going to Tuscan once, but not more than that.

We went to Tuscan 3x when last on the Millie and no visit was bad....just not great. Service was excellent (and got better each visit, as they remembered us).  But the steaks were average at best;  again, not bad but no better than we could get in Luminae.

We found the same with the fish.  Average at best ...  The cuts of fish were not as high quality as they used to be.

Service was excellent...

Did you see it on the app.  That is where we purchased our Chef's Table ...  No other advertisement was observed on the ship.

We  miss Q sine.. It was cutting: edge  in concept and design, and had some of the best food on board!  Also.miss Bistro on 5 ..It was .great for lunch at a small upcharge.

Tuscan and Murano are different but are both ok.   Agree Tuscan can use a refresh!

I do not know the correct answer to your question as we have never had a dining package.  When we have eaten in specialty restaurants, it's has been on days when the menu was not to our liking.

I do not believe it is advertised pre-cruise.  We only found out about it because our Sommelier in Luminae mentioned it to us and we made our reservation through her.

I realize Tuscan is an Italian Steak House but I normally order the branzino.  I did have the filet the last time we dined in Tuscan and it was, as  others have stated, not better than the filet served in Luminae.

We've only done specialties on our most recent Equinox cruise. Sushi on 5 for one dinner and a lunch which we both enjoyed. I do think the concept is difficult for two people. It's a lot easier to enjoy different sushi with a larger group where you can share multiple dishes. But the sushi was excellent.

I hadn't realized until recently that Murano wasn't on the M Class. We went to Tuscan Grill for our specialty in November. If I'd realized there was no Murano on Summit I might have tended to Murano. Not a big deal.

We enjoyed Tuscan but didn't love it. The concept of a multi-course Italian meal is just lost on Celebrity (and Royal). The service is too fast and the servings are too large. We actually asked about that when ordering and trying to figure out what to order, but it's definitely not a "Tuscan" grill! It's sort of an antipasto, primo, secondo format, but everything was meal sized, and served too close together. I think I had the ribeye, which was good, but I honestly didn't finish it. We may well have been out in an hour for a meal I'd expect to take at least two, if not more. I doubt we'll do it again!

The original speciality restaurants on M-Class ships were some of the best at sea. Unfortunately the bean counters at Celrebrity decided to close them in order to accelerate their race towards the bottom. We ate twice in Ocean Liners during its last week on Constellation and it was fabulous. On the last night even the staff were in tears. I haven’t been in le Voyage yet but none of the others come close

Perhaps you still have time to change to a ship more to your liking

Agree.  These M class ships are smaller and do more in the lines of destination cruising.  They can get into better and smaller ports.  The Eclipse is not going to Japan anytime soon.

You can book Retreat for Luminae or Aqua for Blu.  The options for Tuscan, LPC, or Sushi on 5 are fine (not sure why anyone would go to Sushi on 5 on a Japan cruise).

We don’t even book Celebrity’s larger ships.  We focus on the M class, otherwise we’ll do Oceania or Azamara.  If you want small ship experience with better food and choices, book those lines (and pay more).

Le Voyage is great if you like expensive food in a dark room.  Service is very good.  I ordered the wine pairing and they let my husband taste some of those wines at no extra charge.  We both had the premium package.  They probably weren’t supposed to do that.

The veuve cliquot is not run as often anymore when talking to the cellar master pn the silhouette past november.  He is hoping they bring it back in time but it is we shall see.  That was always my favorite dinner overall.

We have eaten at Sushi on Five on every cruise we have taken but I am pretty sure we will not be eating there on our Japan cruise.  I agree - it makes no sense. It is going to be interesting to see how busy it is on our upcoming Japan cruise.

Well if you are in Aqua, Blu is not open for lunch.  The OVC is overcrowded and the MDR is average..  So Sushi for lunch can be perfect for sea days.

They are doing several months in a row in Japan and it makes no sense to keep the Sushi on 5 concept during those months.  They'd do better with a burrito joint in there during that time.

It is a huge pity that Olympic Restaurant is long gone.  You would have been very impressed.

I was trying to find where it was on the ship.  They still have a little part near the Casino telling you all about it and I thought it must have still been somewhere.
Mind you, I was having troubles finding where they had hidden the door to Tuscan Grille as well.

From the archives, here is an old Millennium deck plan showing the Olympic in Deck 3:
