There were slot machines against one wall in Take Five on Discovery Princess last October.  We spent time in there because it wasn't as smoky as the main casino. The rest of Take Five was seating area and the bar.

We sailed Discovery in April on the Total Solar Eclipse cruise. There were no slots in Take Five. We were there every evening. There was a glass door into the casino from Take Five.

😱  Sure hope that's not true.  Take 5 is a great place to hang out both during the day for quiet time & at night for good music!  Will be on the Enchanted in August, it better be there...

We were on the ship earlier this month too but didn't hear that rumor.  It wouldn't be a surprise though.  When we were on the Royal in December about a third of that lounge had slots and the holdem poker machine.  There was still room for a lounge and they had a lot of TVs set up for watching sports too.  It's non smoking in there too so that's a bonus.  I would love it if they did this on all of the Royal class ships.

On the May 4 sailing, the bartender in Take Five told me that they were replacing the side of the lounge where the band is set up with more slot machines and moving the band to the other end of the lounge. It wasn't clear to me if they would be building any partition. I would be worried that the sounds of the slot machines would drown out the band.

I believe they are taking a small space and adding more casino space.  They are not removing all of Take 5 from what we we heard in April. But who knows!

The old Oacific Princess had slot machines in the casino bar area where there was a piano player. The slots never drowned out the piano player

Not sure about the Enchanted...

But on the Majestic, Take 5 is/was a VIP Casino and Lounge.  The VIP Casino and Lounge was for the Chinese market when the ship launched.  Been on her several times post restart and it seems to go back and forth.  There's a section the side nearest Princess Theater that's walled off with card tables.  Last year the card tables were covered up with stretch wrap.  This year the tables were operational (with casino dealers for at part of the time that the casino was open) with the rest of the space open for passengers as a lounge and in the evening had a singing piano player.  A little like a casino and Crooners combined.

It wasn't as smoky or was there no smoke at all?

As far as I know there is no smoking in that venue and there is a door between the bar and casino

I've always found Take 5 to be less smoky than the piazza area

One of the casino pit bosses on the Enchanted in April 2024 briefly commented that yes, slot machines are headed to the Take 5 space.  Not sure how many, all or a portion of space, or when...

As to when, I commented to the bartender that I would be back onboard in August and he indicated that the changes would be made by then.

I'll bet that those machines will be filled to capacity anytime there open.

A few pictures I took of the casino part of the lounge space on the Royal Princess.  It's quite nice and as I mentioned there's still plenty of lounge space left.

With cruise lines eager to find new ways to separate passengers from their money, expansion of the casino at the expense of the Take 5 lounge seems almost inevitable. As a jazz lover who sails the Enchanted Princess in August, I just hope the takeover hasn't happened by then. It would not need a dry-docking to do it.

Another perennial issue has been tobacco smoke drifting from the casino into the lounge. From Princess' perspective, they are killing two birds with one stone. The only people disappointed are the minority of live jazz music lovers.

Smoking gamblers 1, jazz fans 0. It's a no-brainer.

I just hope Princess chooses to continue with live jazz, at another venue. That would suit me fine. It would suit the onboard musicians too, who use the jazz sessions to unwind, improvise and escape from the structured music of the theatre shows, dances, etc.
