New loyalty level. Diamond++.

Recommended Posts

I would like to see a new loyalty level between Diamond Plus and Pinnacle. Even if there are no additional benefits. It's just a very long stretch from Diamond Plus to Pinnacle, 525 cruise nights to be exact. A really great looking loyalty pin would be perfect. I suggest the current Diamond Plus pin with two plus signs (++) on the right side.

If you are currently Diamond Plus. What would you like to see?

All of the Pinnacle tier folks I've met appear to have gotten there in far far far less than 700 nights -- suites and single occupancy bonuses helps a lot. 233 nights for a single occupancy cruiser in a suite from G to P. 8 years of 4x week long cruisers.

I'll go from gold to diamond in just under 2 years (single occupancy, frequent cruiser), and I don't see much of a point in me having earned diamond privileges. I like the fact that D+ and P are so far away -- it SHOULD be tiers that are earned with time (and spending).

What could D++ provide between the two? There'd have to be something of value and I can't imagine what else they can throw in there.

I also like that more and more is becoming a la carte so I don't have to pay/subsidize for things I don't need. I very very rarely eat at the MDR and wouldn't mind that becoming a la carte even.

you can bet that if they add another level between D+ and P, that D's and D+'s will be kicked out of the Concierge Lounge and Diamond Lounge. And probably lose their nightly drink vouchers as well. Oops my mistake...since RCI is going to Suite Lounges and Diamond Lounges on their ships, once all ships have those, D's and D+'s will be kicked out, if they add another level.

Considering how easy it is to get to D, and how many people are already there, they're going to need to do something to manage crowd control. I remember Harrah's old "diamond lounge" in the casinos was pretty empty for years and then Vegas got popular and they slaughtered the lounges to being pretty worthless. Same will be true in any loyalty club that makes it too easy.

Look at UA and AA switching their loyalty programs to revenue -- I think it makes sense, you want the loyalty of people who spend money, not the loyalty of the Groupon Generation.

Nonsense! There is no way that D+ will lose the nightly event. In theory, Diamonds may be relegated to drink coupons, but even that is pure speculation. In all honesty, I hate these threads and comments that imply that benefits will be taken away! We have been reading this stuff for years. Time to move on.

Would serve no purpose other than another tier to brag about.

We will hit Pinnacle next spring with far less than 700 actual nights sailed. With suites, solo and the Diamonds in December promo the points added up rather quickly

The tiers are very reachable very quickly for some. Four 7 day cruises solo in JS gets you to Diamond. Nine 7 day cruises solo in JS gets you to D+. Have a coworker heading out on a cruise in February will be number 8 x 21=168.

I think my thread is being hijacked! its not about changes that may be made to current levels or loss of benefits. It's only about a new level between DP and P.

No one is hijacking the thread -- we're all just bored with the topic that gets brought up consistently.

Search CC for "black diamond" for a hefty thread last year about this very topic -- and just like every other thread since then, nothing has changed, and nothing looks like it will change.

RCCL's loyalty program is obviously working, and it's working just fine (for them, and that's the only entity that matters). For them to add yet another tier doesn't appear to make any sense for either the shareholders or the loyal customers. D+ offers quite a bit, and P really should be a top tier that means something. D++ or Black Diamond or Pinnacle Minus or whatever you want to call it doesn't really have a reason to exist.

...the Diamonds in December promo...

I know RCCL stopped the Diamonds in December promo a few years ago (before my RCCL time) -- what did they offer in terms of tier points?

Whoops, I googled it -- looks like double tier points. That's huge!

Thanks Bob -- I edited my comment quickly but you beat me to it. Double tier points (or one extra per night, however) is huge. No wonder they discontinued it, but I'm sure it generated good revenue during the programs.

Sadly, my business does 40% of my profit in December, so those amazing December discount rates aren't in my schedule. I'd probably be D+ just on the December suite deals I'm seeing this year, haha.

I agree. Nothing will change. If all the responses would have been positive with a few hundred agree'rs. Considering this current trend, nothing will change.

I will start trying other lines after I reach D+. That huge gap does give me s reason to see what else is out there. I could be incentivized to keep coming back if they could toss me a free specialty restaurant, free internet, or maybe a free shore excursion from a reasonable selection.

Loyalty perks are based on very specific and very well monitored expectations by the companies that create the perks. Their end goal is simple: to try to get more revenue going forward, without the heavy cost of marketing campaigns.

The problem here is that cruising has gotten extremely popular with people who may only cruise once every two years. A guy like me who cruises 8-12 times a year can not compete with the family of 4 who cruises every 24 months and will go all out on spending to make it a blast. So my revenue generated for 40 tier points is probably less than a family of 4 getting only 7 tier points.

The cruises are booked to capacity. The cruise lines don't need to rely on solely loyalty perks to generate the revenue they need.

Why would a cruise line give you free dinners? What will happen, you'll go to another cruise line? Ok, go then. They'll book the room just fine, and maybe they'll book it with someone who isn't looking for every discount, deal and mandatory perk.

I'm loyal to RCCL because I love their ports, I love their schedules, and I love the consistency of what I can expect. I don't cruise with them for perks or rewards or freebies. I don't cruise with them because they're the cheapest (they're aren't, by far). I'm loyal without the freebies -- and I'm also a low revenue generator for them. I would be surprised if I am a big profit number in their customer tracking system since I play the OBC game pretty well and end up paying almost nothing once onboard.

To demand freebies just because you're loyal is a sign that you don't understand loyalty programs. Loyalty programs aren't there to just get people back, they're there to generate revenue. If you don't generate a big profit for them, you're not a valuable customer and they would probably be happy if you did go elsewhere so there's one more cabin for a customer who IS a big revenue generator.

These D+ benefits are already in place:

Meal with an Officer for members with 340 or more cruise points.

Upgraded bathroom amenities for members with 340 or more cruise points.

Bonus Gift for members with 350 or more cruise points.

Throw in another minor goodie or two. Maybe D++ (or whatever) could start here.

The point system and tiers are fine just the way they are.

Ray, I could not agree with you more!! The system that Royal Caribbean has put in place for returning guests, IMHO is the best perks program in the industry.

The difference between D+ and Pinnacle equals a different pin, a partially free cruise (it used to be free) when one reaches 700 points (again, in the past it was 100 cruises.......but that was before they created a Pinnacle level.) A recent new perk is free internet for PC's, which is very nice.

Reaching D+ gives so many perks, I'm amazed that some want so much more, or more recognition.

As a Pinnacle Club member, just now ready to achieve Pinnacle Club 2.0, which we jokingly refer to as someone is reaching 1400 points, does give us an advantage, that being that we will be given a dollar amount equivalent to a 7 day Caribbean cruise in a JS. We have friends that are 2.5 members, 3.0 members...that would equal 2100 points, and Super Mario, with well over 5,000 total points.

Other than that, Pinnacle Club members do not receive anything more than D+, for the most part.

FWIW!:D

I agree that those of us that pay premium prices to stay in suites should be rewarded more than those than rack up nights on interior cabins. I am tired of seeing diamond and pinnacles that have never spent a dime on premium cabins!

Suites get an extra point per night.

Seriously?

700 nights in inside/balcony cabins or 350 nights in suites sounds pretty comparable to me, if not favoring the suite guest a little more.

And I'm tired of the "Suite Elitist" who think they are so much better. You get your additional point per night and also the CL for your $$$. I spent all my dimes on an inside and made diamond the hard way - "racking" up one night at a time. Doesn't make me any better, but doesn't make me less either. A dime is a dime.

Most of the ships in the fleet have special areas and perks just for suite guests, as do the private islands. Not to mention the double points. The Oasis Class ships even have a suite lounge in the old VCL. It's called "The Ivory Tower". The elites can sit up there and glare down with disdain at the plebeians below.

I always thought that these could be the new level, lets say Royal Diamond.
