Late-night R-rated Dive In Movies

So, according to John Heald's Facebook page, next month Carnival is going to start showing the new Mad Max movie (which is rated R) at midnight to see how it goes. I personally love the Dive In movies and think this is a great idea.

Do you guys think this is something that has the possibility of sticking around long term? I hope so. I'd like to see it when I cruise on the Dream in October.

By not showing any R movies, it really limits the movies they can show. But I can see why they do it, since kids of any age might be on the Lido deck.

The midnight movie sounds like a good compromise, but personally I'm too much of a morning person to start watching a movie at midnight for it to help me. I'd fall asleep in my chair.

Still, a good idea for night owls.

Dumb question but what are Dive In movies?

On the ships that have the big screen TVs over the pool, they show (relatively new) movies at night. It's not unlike being at a drive-in movie, hence the name. They usually have fresh popcorn available too. It's one of my favorite nighttime activities on the ship, since I am not much on dance clubs or casinos.

I don't have any issue with them doing it but I really wonder how many people will attend at midnight. While there are typically quiet a few people in the clubs that late 85% of the passengers are in bed by then, if not a lot earlier. If it works that is great!

We watched Mad Max at midnight on the Sunshine in December. We actually took a nap after dinner so we could make it through it.

It was nice laying on a lounger with a blanket. It was relatively crowded.

I would definitely do it again if they movie they were showing was worth it.

Making it to midnight would be a stretch for us, lol, maybe 10pm at best! Is it rather windy or cool at night with the ship sailing? Are you able to hear the movie well?

Midnight is too late for me. 10:00 would have been a better choice.

Same here. I have a hard enough time staying awake until midnight. Forget past midnight. I think they should just make the 10:00 movie the R rated one. Maybe just a couple nights during the cruise. If parents don't want their kids watching a particular movie, then it's up to them to parent them and tell them they can't watch it.

Dont see us staying up till 2 am just to watch a movie we could see elsewhere. BTW saw it at home and thought it was one of the worst movies ever

I think it's a great idea...hopefully people have their littlest ones inside by 12 am....those are truly the ones that should be sleep by that time. 12 works great for me...but I'm from a 24 hour town that never sleeps...lol

Same here,I will be up regardless of what Carnival does, so this is a nice option for those that are looking for something to do late at night.

Every move that make won't accommodate everyone.
