6 Drinks and you're out

Recommended Posts

Was just reading on a blog that on The Independance now you have to sign a waiver when you purchase the drinks package with someone commenting that they were refused a drink after they had 6 for there own safety. The ship is coming to Southampton soon so maybe that has something too do with it but are they really going to refuse and embarrass people after 6 drinks in one day.

It has been muted for some time.

Consider a normal day on vacation

2 small wines with lunch

2/3 beers during the day

1 beer/wine/liquor while dressing for dinner

2 small wines with dinner

2 beers during evening entertainment and casino.

What section is one going to give up? :(

For our welfare, or to save a couple of beans?

I have only seen that one report whom the poster said a friend told them so it's not even firsthand information. The waiver does not indicate anywhere that there is a limit and only refers to safety about the quantities consumed and the sharing of drinks.

I wouldn't take the post about bring cut off after 6 drinks seriously.

I think it's another way of saving money seen how most sailings out of Southampton come with a free drinks package.Do ye think if someone is looking a bit tipsy and orders a $150 bottle of wine he would be refused.I don't think so.

That's me out at lunch time then [emoji23] I won't be happy if this was right! Also I though the cocktail limit was 14 dollars....thought they were all above 12 these days.

The limit has been $12 for cruises out of the US and $14 for cruises out of Europe where the menu prices are listed with gratuity included.

I haven't ever seen anyone stopped service that wasn't intoxicated, or acting like they shouldn't be served another drink.

Their point of sale computers do keep track of the amount and frequency of the drinks and will also come up with a flag at times, because due to the frequency of the drinks purchased. it can become obvious that 1) Someone is drinking way to quickly and or 2) they are sharing their drinks with other people.

I worked in the bar business for a while, and it is their responsibility to stop service to someone who has consumed more than they safely or responsibly should.

That is a "normal" day on vacation??

For you, maybe, but definitely not for me.

2, MAYBE 3 glasses of wine between pre-dinner through after dinner before bed (1 with dinner and MAYBE one before OR one after) is plenty for me.

I know everyone is different, but I like to remember my vacation and your description of "normal" would have me in alcohol poisoning super quick.

in NO way whatsoever is that a 'normal' day for either of us on vacation. seriously, am I the only one who thinks drinking all day is stupid, even when pacing yourself?! it's too friggin' hot and humid to drink that much alcohol daily.

Mr Spook will have a beer with trivia. Neither one of us drinks at breakfast or lunch. I will have 2-3 in the CL/Suite Lounge before dinner. I bring the last glass to dinner and have no need to order another while at dinner. since we rarely do any of the nightly entertainment( shows or otherwise) any additional drinking would be a wine tasting flight at Vintages. and maybe twice in a cruise.

the most drinking I do is on boarding day where I find a spot and drink fruity beverages with rum and little paper umbrellas until Muster. Maybe a Margarita for Saillaway.

Spookwife, rather jugemental aren't we? To declare anyone who joys some drinks (more than what you deem normal) as being stupid is a very judgy McJudgerson don't you think? For YOU perhaps that is too much, but each person is different and has a different tolerance. The prior posters drink breakdown seems rather typical for many vacationers. It is easy to hit a 6 drink daily mark, especially on sea days... And in no way to I think this 6 drink thingy is true, otherwise there would be a huge uproar! Now 6 drinks in an hour? THEN we would be talking!

Have to agree with poz222. When my wife and I got married in Playa Del Carmen coming up on 3 years ago we kept an open bar tab for our guests to enjoy when we were out celebrating.

I can't speak to how much any one specific person could or should drink. Everyone has their own tolerances that each individual should be accounted for. I for one can't drink cinnamon whiskey AT ALL. The wife has no issues not having a drink but with 2 or 3 glasses of wine in the evenings. Personally during our honeymoon we sat out on the beach together and I enjoyed quite a few margaritas with a bottle or two of water between servings.

Everyone is going to be different. What they want to get out of a vacation is going to be different. I need to go on at least one vacation a year where I can enjoy not having to deal with billable, sales pipelines, and performance reports for a solid week and I do nothing but listen to the ocean. Everything else my wife and I explore cities we've never been to.

My little brother (13 years younger then me) was happy sitting in the hotel room with the lights off playing Pokemon on a trip.

*shrugs*

For some of us (me included) that is a well paced day on holidays.

Couple of beers during the day is enjoyable

Glass of wine (or 2) over a long leisurely lunch.

Pre dinner drink - well its not good to eat on an empty stomach!

Wine with dinner and a drink or 2 after while doing some show and people watching.

Go on - judge me!

She did NOT say the person drinking all day is stupid, she simply said she thinks the act of drinking all day is stupid. Don't be so quick to call someone out for something they did not do!!

I think anyone is really saying is that vacation time is usually a bit more leisurely then every day life. Everyone will do things different.

It's important to remember that most of us are on a ship with no practical way of communicating with the outside world for a reason. My wife is excited to see 3 different locations in a single week. I'm looking for the opportunity for a single week where there isn't a reasonable expectation to email me and see it.

I agree. Everyone does what they want on vacation, if you want to drink all day on vacation, then do it, if you want to have a few drinks each day, then do it. That's what makes us all unique and different....

In my personal opinion, Spookwife has always had an attitude of judgement. The mixed drinks are so weak, containing far less alcohol than land based bars. In my estimation it takes three RCI rum and cokes to equal one on land.

AND...................

Not all cruises are in the "hot and humid" Caribbean!

(not that I understand what THAT has to do with anything.)

I don't drink what PortRoyal does, but I don't find it excessive. It sounds very well spread out over a long period of time. And it was all wine and beer - no liquor at all. (except the possibility of a before-dinner drink). Much lower levels of alcohol.

Sheesh.

You and I must not visit the same bars on board. I have NEVER been served a "weak" drink on a cruise. Quite the opposite.

Agreed. Although I dont drink a lot on land, so even if my drink on board is weak, I would probably not recognize it!! Speaking of drinks...my new favorite is a Fire Jack......1/2 Fireball, 1/2 Jack Daniels......
