IS AN 8:40 am flight too early from Seattle?

We are currently booked on a cruise Vancouver. However we are considering the solstice from Seattle. Would a flight that leaves at 8:40 AM be too early?

Insanely too early. It is a long way to the airport. Seattle traffic is horrendous.

You have to be totally bonkers. Seattle traffic can be horrible and you have added the problem that you will be going to the airport on the single north-south interstate at rush hour.

Book a late flight and go to the Boeing Museum of Flight which is near the airport to kill time.

Agree way too early. The airport is a LONG drive and in think Seattle traffic makes Chicago look good.

Nope, not April 1st.

8:40am is way too early for a return trip from ANY cruise.

If you have a transporter, 8:30 should be fine. If not, go for 11:00. Live long and prosper.

Way too early. We were on a cruise that didn't dock In Seattle until after 10. We were delayed because of a medical emergency in our last port. We could not make up the time because of rough seas and fog. People with 11 am flights missed them.

I guess I must be totally bonkers as I thought it was possible!

You could only make that flight if it is the day after you disembark.

I totally agree! SEATAC is a large and very busy airport. Even if you have a Trusted Traveler - type status, you can still count on getting stuck in at least one long line somewhere between the front door and your gate. I wouldn't book a post-cruise flight before noon, IIWY. :eek:

Both piers are about a 25-30 minute drive from Seatac, but give it an hour due to road and tunnel construction, city events, and the usual traffic congestion.

For a domestic flight you should be at the airport 2 hrs prior to departure.

Therefore you need to be leaving the pier about 3 hrs prior to any flight time.

p.s. at Seatac there are normally 3 TSA lines open, and you can use ANY of them, not just the one closest to your gate. So if one line is super long, try another. Usually the herd mentality kicks in at the airport and everyone flocks to the longest line.

It would work if you don't actually plan on occupying the seat.

I live in the Seattle area, and my considered opinion is making that flight would be flat-out impossible.

I guess I must be totally bonkers as I thought it was possible!

That time would work if you were going to spend the night after the cruise in Seattle ;).

Considering that most cruises claim to have an arrival time of 7 AM, and passengers don't usually start getting off until more like 7:30, and you have to be at the airport 1.5 hours before your flight... how could anyone think this is even remotely possible?! :eek:

An example of supply/demand driving airfares. The 8:40 flight has low demand, because there are not thousands of people from your ship (and possibly others) competing for a limited supply of seats. The low fare sort of answers your original question. As suggested, check the same flight on the next day or check later flights (after 4pm) on the day you disembark.

Here is how you can make it: the last port stop is Victoria. If your ship docks on time at 6:00pm then you can leave the cruise early and hop on the Victoria Cliper ferry that gets you to seattle by 9:30 that night. Then you have plenty of Tim to get to the airport.

I would think this early of a same day-post cruise flight would be utterly impossible for any port.

If you've never been to Seattle before, why not spend the day and go the next day. In fact, after our Alaskan cruise, we stayed a few days as my hubby and daughter never been there before.
