  1. oh boy Noordam is not having luck with either country. Hoping the Tsunami doesn't go down the coast to Sydney but might affect ships heading to that port
  2. wow very nice, wonder if the scheduling planned this meet up. wondering who got out into Pacific first???
  3. you tubers guys say the ship will go to Christchurch and then head back to Sydney
  4. I am hearing this story a lot more with anyone who chooses a particular cruise line to give all their money to. It is always best to sail on various lines and to not have loyalty to any one company. I even tell adults to try Disney as they are good if you do not want smoke from casino as no casinos on board. Food is good and they rotate dining rooms. Disney does not have a buffet at all at night. I know folks who love RCI for entertainment but then find other things to dislike. Some ships are gorgeous but lack in activities. There is NO perfect ship so move around.
  5. I love Vancouver too and was on the first cruise Ovation did in 2019 and going under the bridge. There are more direct flights to Seattle. Overall Alaska is not one of the places to cut corners on. I say to anyone, go when you can afford it without worrying each day.
  6. I guess ship design takes all their time.
  7. thanks I have not gotten into that arena yet. I still use cc or cash
  8. please do not say you are l lowly. I too travel solo all the time including 4 times to Alaska. I would say excursions are needed if not withing walking distance. NOW, if you go to Sitka, you can walk after taking shuttle to town down by the water and follow a path to the national park and the Salmon hatchery. No charge If in Juneau, it is a great place to walk around along the water but do take the Mt Roberts Tram up for great views. Ketchikan is also good place to walk around and I would pay and see the lumberjack show right near the port I would say overall if whale watching, helicopter flights and other things are too expensive for you (and they are for me too) then think about my above suggestions. If you go to Skagway and do not want to pay for the train, then at least walk around town. Lastly, if you only plan to go to Alaska once, I would save up for another year and do a cruise out of Vancouver that includes a land tour. But the 1 week out of Seattle is also nice.
  9. On all of my cruises last year including Breakaway, I never watched the video I just showed up at the muster and after a quick chat, got scanned and off and running yes they all bother us with those emails
  10. wondering what you mean by NFC capable phone. Don't know this acronym
  11. I went on the Equinox and found the buffet a lot better than some of the RCI newer ships. they had a nicer salad bar and also at the beverage area, nice big container with spout of two types of milk. Also, X ships do not chase folks out of buffet area completely during the day. Front area is for Pizza, salads and ice cream until very late in the day. I found the desserts just slightly better than RCI but NCL has best desserts IMHO in buffet
  12. actually is it becoming move common. I think this is the third ship in past 2 weeks that I have heard of.
  13. I have never been to Bimini but would like to go just once. Only thing about Nassau I like is the sail in past little lighthouse and then watching the other ships and glancing over at Atlantis Hotel which is nice to visit for a day.
  14. oh I did not know that Oprah and Test Kitchen went away. I suppose those that love Lincoln might consider going on MSC as they have opera singers.
  15. I think it would be good idea too. Everyone (well most) love HMC with the nice white sand beach. easy to walk in and out of the water as some of the other islands have a dip and some pebbles.
  16. yuk I hate the Quest as I found in 2018 and 2019 more and more folks came with weird stuff in their bags so they could play. I found the frantic running a bit hard to watch just hoping no one got injured. Give me just a nice trivia thanks.
  17. yes I think so especially for Europe and Alaska. Folks getting back to cruising and each of the lines is full of debt.
  18. overall it is pretty nice. I find most of the ships have the same items. Good salad bar, and the WJ you can look out at the ocean if sunsets are after 7pm. Also quieter and easy to get in and out in under and hour if you have lots of places to go. BUT, breakfast is the most hectic and so go early or late. Lunch in WJ during sea days is really good.
  19. and those are two things IMHO that would make me NOT go on the Joy. Love the spa on Bliss and Escape.
  20. I would say a small to medium cross body bag with zipper compartments. or a fanny pack.
  21. depends on how important predinner drinks are to you. You can also do specialty restaurants or the Buffet which more and more folks are doing as it is good and fast and view of the ocean. Also, eating later say 8pm is not always so good if you want to be in bed at say 11pm. fuller stomach
  22. wow that is interesting. But then again it was delivered to the room and so should be good to go. Sorry to head NZ required this again.
  23. I had the same thought. I suppose some folks like the level of service but honestly I peeked into one of those, and was not overly impressed. I guess the peaceful place to gather except if a noisy bunch shows up to drink and laugh too loud. I mean for me, I just go on a cruise to see the ocean, visit the ports, and see the shows. I do not need any special attention.
