What about routings through SFO and/or LAX on code share arrangements with United? Use the Aeroplan app to see what's available and in the Business Class choices scroll well down to see the offers through the US airports.

Yes, the per person price reduction is 37.5% (or 75% for the second person); so that's not as good as 40% per person. Then, as you said, it kind of depends on what the base fare is from one day to the next. Finally, the per person taxes and fees are not subject to any price reduction and are added in at the end after they've done their hocus-pocus fare calculations.
