Why do you think it is ok to let your children run down hallways?

I may get flamed for this, especially since I can't imagine that the parents who allow this don't have a clue at how intrusive and annoying it is. But, just in case parents really have no idea, I am putting this out there. I am clueless as to why any parent thinks it is ever okay to let their children run up and down the hallways on a cruise ship. I know they are kids, and we should let them be kids...But, isn't it more important we teach them to be humans first? It is just not appropriate or considerate at any time of day to be running down a hallway outside of other people's cabins. Do you not realize how loud and annoying the constant thumping of feet running past someone's cabin door must be. And, it doesn't matter what time of day either. If someone is trying to relax in their cabin in the middle of the day or early evening, that is their right, and there is absolutely no reason for anyone to be running around in the hallways ever.

I agree wholeheartedly with this. Why do parents think it's ok to just let their kids run wild when on the cruise? Yes they are on vacation but there are appropriate places for them to run around, like the pool deck the kids area. But common areas like hallways and elevators aren't one of these. For the most part I don't run into a lot of kids as I typically try to travel when most kids are in school. But just being considerate of your fellow passengers can go a long way.

I'm with y'all. Small children don't run on their toes, they stomp flat footed making a lot of noise and vibration in the cabins. At about 1:00 AM I was standing outside my cabin on Carnival once speaking with a security guard who had come to bust up a group of teens who were hanging out on the stairs making a lot of noise when a toddler came squealing and stomping down the hallways. His parents were chasing and teasing him and they thought it was funny. They were so wrapped up in themselves they didn't care about the peace of others. The security guard stooped down and cradled the child as he came around the corner and then the mother followed. I said,

"Ma'am it's late could you please quiet your child?" To which she replied, "He's just a child!" When I told her that was no exuse she walked up to my face and yelled "F... you!" So I asked where was the trailer park she lived in. Dad came around the corner and heard me say that so he wanted to fight me. Then the security guard cradled him and escorted them to their cabin.

Some are simply clueless and really are not good parents. They do not take parenting seriously and probably don't take much responsibility for what most of us consider common sense. These are the folks that arrive late and seem unaware that their lateness is inconsiderate to everyone.

Unfortunately there is little you or I can do. But we cannot blame the children. We can hope that these children will eventually be influenced by others with better manners.

No flame for OP!

Why do people think it's OK to talk in the hallway? Why do people think it's OK to yell on the pool deck? Why do people think it's OK to get ridiculously drunk? Why are people chair hogs?

People are jerks.

I do none of the above, but I will run in the hallway, as it gets me to the end faster, so I can talk again. ;)

That is one great benefit of the Studio Cabins...NO KIDS. Since children can't be in a cabin by themselves, everyone in the Studios is an ADULT. No kids in the rooms, no kids in the hallways.

Even the Haven doesn't have that benefit.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a loose child on deck 8. Please find the parents and inform them that they need to teach their children manners. Thank you for your time and enjoy your day on the Cruise critic forums.

I had that on my ship sailing. They ran past me and the person I was traveling with. Right in the middle no sorry or anything just went right through full speed. Parents should keep their kids under control so that things like that don't happen. Plus they could get hurt if the boat shifted to one side suddenly.

I agree that it's best to encourage children to behave politely. I also think that people need to realize that children under 3 can be pretty unreasonable. If you insist on carrying them through the hallway, you may have a toddler screaming at the top of their lungs to get down. If you put them down, they like being able to run ahead. Which is worse, the screaming, or the thudding feet? In my opinion, I'd rather the running - they get past my cabin faster.

People can be truly awful about expecting perfect behavior from a toddler. They give you the evil eye and make nasty comments about controlling the child. Don't any of them remember what it was like when their own children were 2 and 3? We always tried to go to early dinners when we took the kids out to avoid bothering people - but there was no way we were going to stay home cloistered for 5 years.

Feel free to bitch and whine about tweens and teens behaving badly - if you remember being a perfect angel at that age yourself.

"I hate people!" Is spoken by me at least once a day! It seems to be happening more and more as I get older and people get stupider!

You are so right in your complaint. I feel the same way! I have to agree with the Carnival ships, as that was our worst cruise for unruly children.

@gizfish -

Why do you think you can just accuse us, the readers of your post, to not control our children?

Our children are in their mid-50s and their children are in college.

Have you had any complaints about any of them?

Of course not.

So if you want to vent about people, please use "why don't THEY", not YOU.

Thank you.

Agree here too, and I'm a Mom to two boys ages 12 and 9 :)

Case and point: my family and I are walking down the hall to our aft penthouse when a young girl runs up behind us. We purposefully block the whole hall so she cannot run by. Instead she deeks in amongst us and continues running...to the cabin beside us!

My boys were quick and loud to announce that this was inappropriate behaviour, though it didn't stop this young lady from doing it again repeatedly throughout the cruise.

I'm just glad my boys recognize the problem. However, I taught them that it's a problem, some children (and adults) don't even realize there's an issue.

While i tend to agree... the only thing that comes to mind reading this is a 60 year old man in his bathrobe yelling at kids to get off his lawn and spraying them with a garden hose.

While it is annoying, don't you think your over stating the problem? "constant thumping"?

I've only been on 4 cruises but the only loud annoying people I have had an issue with were around 40 years old

Get back to us after another 6 or 8 cruises.

Try a few 3 or 4 day booze cruises out of Miami if you want real noisy annoyance; and they are rather older "kids"!!
