Lilly55 Posted January 4, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2018 Booked a number of OB bookings on Seabourn in last few years and have been allocated V4 / V5 / V6. Read latest booking today and there is a small paragraph amidst all the wording stating an OB booking will be allocated a V1 - V4. Anyone noticed that before? Is it new? My travel agent didn’t mention it but it is clearly stated in paperwork he sent me.
Sunprince Posted January 5, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2018 Perhaps that’s not a normal OB you are looking at but a 3 category upgrade offer which I see is part of the current “extraordinary offers”. This is different than a true OB. Sent from my iPad using Forums

Laylam Posted January 5, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 5, 2018 Can someone remind us what the letter OB stand for? I think it means "On Board". Rather than choosing a suite, you can pay a lesser price and will be allocated a suite a week or so before sailing.
SLSD Posted January 5, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2018 Ok. Thank you. I understood the general procedure, but did not understand the letters OB. We have yet to try an OB. So far, we have reserved a specific Veranda by number, stating that we would not accept an upgrade (not knowing what it would be.)
jozi Posted January 5, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 5, 2018 Ha. I always thought it meant Open Booking. I think it means "On Board". sfvoyage Posted January 5, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 5, 2018 There are OB and OS. B for balcony, S for stateroom. O, I I'm not sure, but could be Open booking. OB is for V1 & up.. OS for A & up.
Lilly55 Posted January 5, 2018 Author #8 Share Posted January 5, 2018 This is a normal OB booking - No 3 grade upgrade on my sailing. States: “Note OB veranda guarantees are allocated suites V1 - V4”
Jayjay900 Posted January 5, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 5, 2018 Rang my travel agent to ask about this - she confirmed “they only upgrade you to a maximum of V4 if book an OB but if you book a V1 on a guarantee you may be upgraded up to a V6”
Flamin_June Posted January 5, 2018 #10 Share Posted January 5, 2018 This must be a new policy, or else it is a SB imposed restriction with your TA, or perhaps on a particular sailing. Have booked OB twice in recent years and each time ended up with a V6. In any case, V1 to V4 for OB price is still a good deal AND it means you will avoid the dreaded 730s
Lilly55 Posted January 6, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted January 6, 2018 Gave TA a call. Said it is a new Seabourn policy for all TAs and that is why they are now including it on all their paperwork. OB may get allocated a V1 / V2 / V3 or V4
Mr Luxury Posted January 6, 2018 #12 Share Posted January 6, 2018 I cannot see why Seabourn would want to restrict themselves by limiting the OB selection from V1 to V4. The most undersold suite category is V6 which anyone can see is not worth the extra money over a V4 or V5 In fact a V6 is the most likely suite to be given to a guest that has booked an OB because the cheaper V categories usually sell out. Like the missing laundry on the Encore they will soon recognize their mistake.
SLSD Posted January 6, 2018 #14 Share Posted January 6, 2018 I assume SB can override their own rules about OBs. If they have V6 cabins to fill, they can fill them.

Exactly, then there would be no reason for Seabourn to back themselves into a corner by changing the rules. Flamin_June Posted January 8, 2018 #18 Share Posted January 8, 2018 Because they are under the swimming pool and you can get noise when the move the sun beds around and directly under the patio grill seating, so again, many passengers have complained about noise from tables and chairs being set up early morning. SKP946 Posted January 8, 2018 #19 Share Posted January 8, 2018 and directly under the patio grill seating, so again, many passengers have complained about noise from tables and chairs being set up early morning. And that's also where the most expensive suites (Wintergarden) on the ship are. I have never understood the reasoning behind this placement , although one Captain explained it as being the pivot point of the ship
SLSD Posted January 8, 2018 #20 Share Posted January 8, 2018 And what exactly is a pivot point?
SKP946 Posted January 9, 2018 #21 Share Posted January 9, 2018 And what exactly is a pivot point? "http://marinegyaan.com/what-is-meaning-of-pivot-point-of-ships/" Probably the term "centre of gravity" would be easier to comprehend.
Nashna Posted January 20, 2018 #22 Share Posted January 20, 2018 We were in 738 V6 and it was perfectly fine. We did hear noise a few times in the late afternoon. However, we never heard anything in the morning and evening. It was not an issue for us as we loved the location.
Bestie098 Posted January 21, 2018 #23 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Has anyone stayed in the top deck with the observational lounge - e.g. Deck 11 on Encore ; Deck 10 on the other ships? Just wondering if the noise and location is an issue.
StLouisCruisers Posted January 21, 2018 #24 Share Posted January 21, 2018 We were allocated 734 which is under the Patio Grill and grill seating area when we went to Antarctica. We heard some dragging of chairs/tables after the Patio Grill closed because they put everything up against the serving counter. I don't remember the early morning noises mentioned but that could be because we are early risers. The noise in the evening was around 9 or 10 pm and only lasted about 15 minutes. Maybe because of the cooler itinerary they didn't set the tables out early in the morning. The cruise and suite were fabulous and I wouldn't care where I was located; it was truly an awe-inspiring experience. I'm going back on the Quest in August and couldn't be happier.:D
