Viber is the best one I've found as let's great call rates to non subscribers plus free for members

Second is map my ride. Which will monitor where I go and what I've fine

Great for walking ports and using up those calories the ship brings

flightaware is one I use frequently. Lets me track flights of friends. You can look back a few days and also check out historical departure and arrival times along with expected gate arrival and departure.

I've used these apps and found them very helpful...

Free Wi-Fi Finder -- So I can find hotspots world wide (even offline).

Find Near Me -- Maps ATMs, restaurants, hotels, doctor's offices, pharmacy, etc.

Spotted By Locals -- Over fifty cities around the world, with information from people who know the low down. Can be accessed offline.

TripIt Pro: keeps track of my tickets, reservations all in one place. Keeps track of any updates, flight changes… I can have my ICE people just access this info so they know where I am at any time on my trip.

Google Translate: I can always be polite and say "please", "thank you" "where is the restroom" in the local language ;) It's also good for figuring out what a sign says.

App Box Pro: has just about every little "thing" I can need - a good calculator, currency converter, measurement converter, tip calculator, flashlight, mirror, Google apps…

Yelp - if I need to find a place to eat quickly.

Parla's Rome - my favorite guide for anything food-related in Rome

Delta's app - a must when flying Delta anywhere

my credit union's app - access to my money wherever, whenever.

AMEX - access to my accounts to know what is going on them, instant reporting if my card is lost/stolen…

Apple's Maps (came with iPad Mini) or Google Maps - a MUST. find walking routes, find driving routes, GPS to use when driving…

If I am driving and need gas, then Gas Buddy app is excellent. Lets you know location and gas prices of nearest stations to your location, and maps them for you. Really handy.
