Everything Jewel Of The Seas Thread

Recommended Posts

We were also on the Jewel out of Boston to Tampa. The weather was wild, but in spite of it all we slept through the worst of it.

The food was very good no matter where we ate on the ship. The Seaview cafe is in the back of the ship away from most of the activity so it is peaceful, and the food is made to order. We enjoyed the chowder, and sandwiches. The artichoke dip with corn chips was also very good. We loved eating outside in the Windjammer Cafe, what are they planning to do with that area?? Hate to see it change. The Jewel is a beautiful ship, beautiful artwork in the centrum stairs, and in the art gallery on deck 11. Lots of places to view the ocean including in the glass elevators. Can't wait till our next trip in the summer.

Lately, I've seen a lot of posts of people looking for info on Jewel. I've seen "everything" threads for other ships and thought... why not start one for Jewel? I'm looking forward to my upcoming Jewel cruise and thought it might be nice to have one place for people to get their info on Jewel. Post away! :D

A few more things about the Jewel. . . If you're staying in a suite, you might have a flat screen tv, we did in the suite that we were in last week. Also, for those looking for football and soccer, we saw games on feeds from ESPN, ESPN2, Fox and CBS at different times over the weekend. There were big screen TVs in the sports lounge outside the casino, and in several places in and around the Schooner Lounge. Jewel also has Chops and Portofinos. I like the location for these restaurants on the Jewel, down by the Schooner bar and the Safari lounge, not up by the Windjammer.

parking is now 15 a day (Increase on oct 1) for a couple of bucks more a day they have valet.. the parking garage is very convenient (But the valet brings your car right to the curb )

Also if driving down you might look for a hotel that offers a package deal with parking and shuttles.

I have the jewel booked for jan,feb and march love the Port of tampa

Rick

(PS we lived in Hilliard for 3 years loved Columbus but way to cold for a florida native)

Hey! We are in Hilliard - been here for 11 years. But we are both Buckeyes, so we're built for the clime. :)

Thanks for thread! We leave in 24 days (23 now that the clocked has clicked past midnight, but who's counting?) and I love any info we can get.

If anyone has questions, post or message me, and I will gather what I can while inboard.

We are staying in the Chase hotel. They allow you to leave your car up to 14 days with their cruise n snooze package. I can't remember the exact pricing... 149 maybe? They also have breakfast. I will mention what the hotel is like in my review. 9 days!!!

That sounds good! I always thought it was a bit odd to get all dressed up for a nice dinner and to start to walk into the Windjammer which has the cafeteria vibe. Of course, it was never a big deal in the end but I'm excited to hear they are in a different location on Jewel.

Thanks for the link MCWebber. My high school reunion sails in April and this will be a big help in the planning.

Hello Hawkette64,

I believe we cruised with the both of you on your Emerald Princess cruise a few years ago. It is Andrew and Lisa from near London, Ontario. We now have 2 children and life seems to change daily;) Hope you are both well and in good health.

Sadly winter is back,

Andrew

Has anyone stayed in the Royal Suite on the Jewel? We are considering it for a cruise in early 2013.

Thanks,

Andrew

I've peeked into it on turnaround day. Is there anything in particular you'd like to know? I may have some pics of Serenade's RS - she's Jewel's twin sister so it will be virtually identical.

Jewel is our favorite ship. The decor is gorgeous and the crew is wonderful. We loved the food on our October cruise - had no trouble getting a table when we wanted it for MTD. Seaview Cafe is a nice place to go for comfort food.

Great thread! We're looking forward to the Jewel in just under a month!

Anyone recently off experience the rotating bar???

The bar in the Vortex is still rotating about 4 revs per hour. Just off this morning and had a great time with old and new friends!!!!

I also heard that Jewel is now number one in the RCL fleet based on customer comment surveys.

Hi Scotty,

I will be taking my sister and my nieces on Jan. 2nd. They have never been on a cruise before and I am super excited to see there faces. Do you have any suggestions for Costa Maya? Did they have a night time buffet and deck party? Any info would be great. :)

Also just off the Jewel this morning....hated to leave...really is a beautiful ship..

No milkshakes in the Seaview cafe though...I asked...was told they don't have them...also told no ice cream for my brownie...oh well...saved a few calories there!:D

LOVED doing the Valet parking! So worth the $95 not to have to drag luggage across the street & up to who knows where to find my car!

Are there any pay venues such as cafes or restaurants other than Portofino or Chops?

Can't wait to go in 3 weeks!

Only Cafe Lattetudes, where you need to pay for specialty coffees. Food in the Seaview Cafe and the Solarium Cafe are included in your basic fare.:) It has been at least two years since I can recall being able to get a milkshake in the Seaview.

Are there pastries and other snacks available at the Cafe Lattetudes and is there a charge for those?

Thanks.

Can you please tell me more about Solarium Cafe? I've heard a lot of good things about Seaview Cafe and am excited to try it but haven't heard that much about solarium cafe. What type of food do they offer?

I believe that they have pizza, salads, and hot dogs. There may be other offerings but since they discontinued making crepes there, we rarely go there to get any food.:) It doesn't compare with the food served in the Seaview.

No charge for the pastries if you order, and pay for, a specialty coffee at the Cafe Lattetudes.

So did I see that Clo O'Connor is the CD? Do you think she'll still be on when I sail in Mid February? One of my favorite Cruise stories was when Clo was making mid-day annoncements and declared, "It's another beautiful day on the Jewel of the Sleeze! You could hear her voice just crack when she realized what she'd just said.

When we last sailed Jewel, four years ago, they made crepes in the Solarium Cafe, late at night, but I have heard that they no longer do that.

Has anybody done the Dolphin Encounter at Costa Maya? I tried to ask this on the Ports of Call board, but it doesn't seem like that board gets much traffic.

I did the encounter in Nassau and the swim in Cozumel, I highly doubt it's too different. You get in a group, they tell you some things about Dolphins, including some spots not to touch. You then go to where they are, and it comes around you and you touch, kiss and such with it. I prefer the swim, it was better, and yes they gave you a life jacket for the swim.
