Galveston Cruiser Posted March 24, 2014 #1702 Share Posted March 24, 2014 Maybe I am wrong...thinking I'd cycle as much as possible around the isle...except of course going shopping for heavy loads of groceries etc... Wonder how the service yards over on Pelican are doing with the things that are needed offshore but stuck in the yard. Maybe the shallower draft osv's can go West and up the ICW to Pelican instead? Cycling around the island is fine, just stay off the know thoroughfares. Nothing moving. Can't get to ICW without going through the bunker oil. Just a "wait and see". I do not trust the news channels as they give out wrong info and are only out her for the sensationalism

LoneStarJeffe Posted March 24, 2014 #1704 Share Posted March 24, 2014 Surviving the delay with a Kindle in one hand and an adult beverage in the other. It is not what you want. You just shrug and enjoy a different type of cruise. Roatan is out. The rest are day by day. But the Navigator crew has been great. It's totally out of Royal Caribbean's hands. I'm sure there are angry passengers on board. Keep us updated! I'm supposed to leave on Sunday for a B2B on Navigator. LetsGetWet! Posted March 24, 2014 #1706 Share Posted March 24, 2014 (edited) Per KHOU news, the cruise ships may not be moving until, at the earliest, Wednesday. Here is the link: http://www.khou.com/news/local/Cruise-Ships-at-a-standstill-as-oil-spill-cleanup-continues-251914981.html Hi Dave - I wonder if you got that mistaken impression from whoever posted the same misconception in the other Galveston Port thread. The article actually says "Cruises at terminals in Galveston and Pasadena have been told they may not be able to leave until as late as Wednesday" which is much different than "at the earliest" Wednesday. I do not trust the news channels as they give out wrong info and are only out her for the sensationalism Thru San Luis Pass...that was where I was thinking, but suspect that pass is too shallow/narrow to move 200' OSV in/out. I know the cruise ships would not make it...not to mention there goes a bridge of two on the way down there on a cruise ship. I guess on the bright side it's not like the beach is closed on a bright sunny day. Hopefully no more new oil spots the beach. Pics from earlier were not so nice. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk You are doing better than me. :D I had read once before when one of the Royal ships were stuck in Galveston due to fog, they could only sell the alcohol purchased in Texas which limited selection. Is that the case now or is everything fair game? thanks
Kcruiser2014 Posted March 24, 2014 #1713 Share Posted March 24, 2014 Limited selection of alcohol, but decent. Duty free shops still closed. Announcement that we hopefully should be leaving sometime tonight. Keeping fingers crossed. Crew has been great for the most part, as well as most of the passengers. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app No one is leaving past 7 p.m. ... if at all this week. My parents are on Magic fwiw. The ferry between Galveston Island and the Bolivar Peninsula, closed since the spill, was expected to reopen by 6:15 p.m. Monday, officials said. For now, services will be limited to between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. That's dependent on a test vessel seeing if oil gets churned up. http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Ferry-reopening-today-as-cleanup-continues-5342986.php?cmpid=bna

It's a shame about Roatan, one of my faves, though. Hang in there...we're pulling for ya! Agree - we're supposed to get yet another snowstorm here tomorrow - yikes!!!! I'd much rather be on any of the ships in the harbor than here. Having said that, I really don't mean to sound insensitive to those people who we're planning on having a wonderful tropical cruise and are experiencing something quite different. I hope everyone makes the best of a not so great vacation and has something to talk about for a long time to come.
golfpccc Posted March 25, 2014 #1718 Share Posted March 25, 2014 When we came in yesterday on the NOS, we started seeing lots of oil along the Jetty and had to travel through it. Several small boats were putting out the booms as we were in the channel. They had the booms all around the shore line on the left side of the channel - along the Marina, the Elissa, etc. But there was still oil in the channel that we had to try and maneuver around. We definitely got the better end of the deal!! RCCL and the crew were wonderful yesterday - everything was opened up - shops, casino, flowrider, rock wall, ice rink etc. They also had a show that was put on by Phil Anderson and the Bubba Feathers Band. Of course, we were all allowed to stay in our cabins. My only complaint - they didn't serve in the Diamond Lounge...LOL I assume they served beverages to the ones getting on board. Hope they purchased more liquor in Galveston!! We experienced a fog delay on the Voyager several years ago and sat on the ship in Galveston until Tues at 10 am. I remember we had a ball and ship life went on as usual. Hoping y'all get out tonight and have a great cruise.

saintbernardlover Posted March 25, 2014 #1725 Share Posted March 25, 2014 On the Pier 23 camera, there's seems to be three ships. The Navigator on the far left of the screen and then an Carnival ship which I assume is the Magic but what is the ship to the far right?
