Reflection Casino Question

Recommended Posts

Have an upcoming sailing on Reflection. Will be our first X cruise. I did read a thread that mentioned the casino and that maybe the slot machines aren't your "regular" ones - ie Wheel of Fortune.

Can anyone tell me any more info on the casino. What are the hours? Do they have regular black jack dealt by a live dealer?

What type of slot machines? Do they have video poker? Do they have Blazing 7s (my fav!).

Also - how does the money work? Do we put real money (USD) or is it on your ship credit?

Finally - is there a bar in the casino? If so - does your drink package work with the bar?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!

OK I may be getting my cruise lines mixed up but I don't remember Blazing 7's, but I thought for sure we did a slot pull on Wheel of Fortune.

There is live black jack. And Poker Pro tables. They also have Let it ride, 3 card poker, craps etc. No Pai Gow any more.

You put real money in the slots (As in $20 bills or $100's or whatever) but it's Ticket Out for pay offs unless it's a larger slot jackpot, where you're paid in cash by the casino staff. Or you can set up an account and have the money go on/from your Seapass.

The hours are...."interesting". On a sea day the slots open an hour or two before the table games (around 10AM). I've seen the casino open until 1AM or 3AM and I think it mostly depends on how many folks are playing. Sometimes it's a ghost town by 1AM and they start closing things down a table at a time and about the time the last table is playing, they'll mention to slot players that they have 20 min or whatever. The Dailies usually say "Open til late" or something like that. So it's random.

There is a bar in the casino and there are bar waiters (your beverage package will work if you've purchased one). Of course, unless you're a member of the Blue Chip club you'll have to pay for your drinks.

DISCLAIMER: this is for Equinox, Eclipse and Solstice. I've not been on Reflection until this coming November.

Hi - Thanks for the responses. Very helpful. Though I'm a bit confused - can I put actual money into the slot machines or do I just put my sea pass into the machine? I understand I won't get real coins back (I think that has pretty much gone away - don't see that in Vegas much anymore).

Thanks!

There are a number of live games including blackjack, roulette etc. on the Reflection. The slot machines are high tech and I thought there was the Wheel of Fortune slot there. I believe the casino took cash but not entirely sure about that. But I do recall an ATM.

I was told that the Casino, hard liquor store, and wine shop were run by third parties.

On the Millennium, it was just like a Vegas casino - we were able to put paper money into the machine, and cashing-out came on those barcode slips that the cage would handle for us. If you want to use your sea-pass you can, but there is a 5% fee.

If you want to change machines, all you do is hit the "cash out" button. The ticket that spits out can then be inserted into another machine.

Great thanks, got it now :o

Are there roulette tables? I like slots to make my money last, hubby prefers roulette.

Yes there are, one word of warning, don't take any notice of the Bar Man when he tells you what slot to play as it's about to pay out........... it won't

So it doesn't pay you out in coins, sounds a pain to have to cash out and take a paper slip to the cashier every time you want to change machines or am I getting it wrong?

Cashing out in coin is worse, IMHO. I really don't like scooping dirty coins into a bucket. The paper cash-out works just fine.

I like the TITO system. I change machines a lot. If I'm sitting on one and I see one that I've had my eye on open up, all I do is cash out take the ticket and go to the next machine. With the coins I'd have to wait for the bucket to fill .... and I remember that sometimes it ran out of coins.

When I said seem to remember it's because I haven't seen a machine that takes coins for several years.

We haven't been on the Reflection yet but on the Equinox and Sillhoette They had craps roulette blackjack tables I'm not sure about 3 card poker.

On the slots you can use your sea-pass card for comps like any casino, they took cash or vouchers and paid out in vouchers.

There is a bar in the casino they don,t comp drinks if you are playing. On our TA on the Equinox they would have the football games on late at night.

I know when they Solsticized Summit back in Jan 2012, they took out all the slots and replaced everything with penny slots. Of course you could bet up to $2-3 a pull on some of them. Since Reflection came out about that time, did they do the same thing, i.e. penny slots?

Does anyone know what the minimum limits are on the blackjack tables?

Depends mainly on the time of day.

$5 mins can be found early (maybe more than 1 table) and usually it's all $10 and higher minimums later in the evening especially if the joint is crowded. They do have single deck blackjack too. What is also great - BJ pays 3/2, none of that 6/5 Vegas Strip garbage.

For 3 Card Poker & the other carnival games like Caribbean Stud $5 & $10.

Odds on craps - 6 & 8 - 5X, 5 & 9 - 4X and 4 & 10 3X.

Nice, decent games with decent payoffs.

I bet the slots are 80% though!!

Minimum bets vary....they generally try to run $10 minimum tables but if they don't get a crowd, they often drop some tables to a $5 minimum. They also do some $5 minimum during the day, jacking it up to $10 in the evening. It really depends on the cruise and the passengers.

The following is an excerpt from my infamous review "JW and Jerome's Excellent Adventure on the Celebrity Reflection" from April 2013.

We are sailing on the Reflection with you again, this November, for Part Two of the "Continuing Saga of the Adventure".

As an avid casino enthusiast and a regular invited Casino Guest aboard all multiple cruise lines, Las Vegas resorts and elsewhere, we have a discerning taste for the Slots and I calls it as I sees it (or loses it!)... in my honest opinion.

Here is what I wrote in April, 2013:

I am an avid Slot Queen, love my casino slots and know them very well. Over the years I have been lucky in the Casino’s on the ships. I was eager to try the Celebrity style of gaming. The Reflection’s Casino is rather beautiful and from a distance, a rather substantial size too. They have all the wonderful table games, and there are over 250 slot machines to play. From a distance it’s impressive, but take a closer look and, well to an avid slot player, not so much. This is where I was a bit disappointed. Out of all the machines they installed in the Casino, only three are Vegas “Branded” Machines. What I mean by that is slot machines that are well known Brands and fun to play. They only had a bank of 8 “Quick-Hits” and a bank of 8 “Poker” Slots, but the odd thing was the Pay Tables on both had been drastically altered downward and were not the normal pay table would see on other ships, or in Vegas. This I found odd. Industry standard payout tables on both machines are never tampered with and that is why they are popular, but the Poker Machines in particular, were marginalized downward, so much so, that I would never win.

In a further review of the machines, they were all the same generic type of machine with different graphics. Nothing I recognized and no games that were synonymous with famous Vegas slot machines. Guess they did not want to pay royalties. However, these games were albeit nothing more than souped up arcade games that had payouts. They even had a phony Wheel Of Fortune Machine, not the real deal at all. Common guys, at least get a real Wheel Of Fortune TV Show machine. It’s the number one Slot machine out there! No Red White and Blue, No Butterfly, No Bombay, No Money Storm, No Blazing 7‘s, No I Love Lucy, No Betty Boop, No Tabasco…I know my slots.

In any case, I sat down, got another drink from the Casino Cocktail Hostess and began to play these generic arcade games. I lost, lost, and lost some more. Bounced around from machine to machine and figured out that the payouts were exactly the same, the bet options were the same, only the graphics changed from machine to machine. Bonus rounds….what bonus rounds? Then it hit me.

In Florida, we had these places called “Senior Arcades” that had these same "Games" in them and they were just outlawed. They attracted Seniors for want of nothing else to do and these storefronts had the same graphic games that paid out coupons instead of cash. Those coupons could then be turned in for Visa Gift Cards, so they skirted Casino Gambling Laws. Well, our fine State just put an end to that sort of Gambling and even our Lieutenant Governor resigned because of this mess, as she was involved in several of these arcades. It made sense that the Florida Seniors would feel at home in this casino, sort of like the Arcades. I guess that’s why Celebrity designed them like this. Sad tho, for most of the cruise, except for the table games, the slots in the casino were a ghost town. Perhaps a testament to “Branded” Machines, I guess.

By the way, everyone loves the table games in the Casino on The Celebrity Reflection. They were packed day and night. Sadly, I don't know how to play the tables, maybe I should learn, as I might have a better time. Hmmmm......maybe I could become "The Craps Queen"? For some reason that just does not sound right at all.
