 We then had a leisurely HC dinner and went to the theater to see Colors of the World. We saw this new show on the Royal, but something is different and I can’t explain what it is. Perhaps someone on CC has seen both and can tell you. ]

The show on the Ruby does not have the LED moving mural scenes when certain songs were sung. I.E. when "Over The Rainbow" was sung, The Ruby singer just stood on the raised platform or sat on it. On the Royal, there was a moving mural on the front of the raised platform making it appear the singer was walking along as the scenery moved. I thought the show was a lot better on the Royal.

If you have a mini bar and you have a suite shared by your spouse, do you each get a mini bar set up? So if you want to switch it out can one person keep the mini bar and the other one get a coffee card!

If you have a suite you get one setup. If one of you is Elite, you get a 2nd setup. If you have two complete bars, you can switch one out. You get two coffee cards for one complete mini bar.

3. Gail: CC hostess told me 5 day would not have lunch but would have formal night party.

.

pia--

thanks for all of the info--does she mean there is no most traveled lunch but there would be a most traveled cocktail party? or that there will just be a regular captain's circle party for all repeaters? not that i would make the cut but just wondering if they would do those specialty dining vouchers on the5 day

8. What you didn’t ask. There are only 81 Elites on this cruise and we are #2 most traveled. Numero uno has 30 more days.

Hi Pia

Thanks for doing another Live From... I'm guessing you've answered this before. If so I missed it. But how many sea days with Princess do you have?

Looking at the cruises listed in your signature I see you have more days planned in 2014 than I've accumulated sailing Princess. I'm jealous.....but it's a good jealous! ;)

I completely agree, so much better on the Royal. I heard someone complain that the black background on the Ruby made it look like a high school gym. Also, there's only 6 female dancers (still 4 male). I can't recall a show with less than 8 females.

Loved the 4 tenors. They can sing to me all night.

Almost dinner time and just popping in to say hi.

Wonderful day of doing nothing but gym, trivia, slots and eating. Three rounds of trivia.

Won one

Tied one (lost the breaker)

Lost one (by one)

However, the one we did win was a biggie and we got champagne, which we drank at the 4:15 trivia. Our team is all Cruise Critic.

Morecruises: shows usually havr 7 female dancers, not 8.

Nothing else to say. See you tomorrow.

Thanks for the "Live" thread from me, as well. I followed your other TA thread which I thought was wonderful.

You are so lucky to have the Commodore for your captain. We were on 2 cruises with him in our early years of cruising--1998-2001; He is so nice and remembered us, he said. What a great guy!! :) So diplomatic.

I was hoping you'd get Barrington (Barty) Brown in Crooners. I haven't seen him mentioned since the Oct. 2012 Emerald Princess cruise.

Have fun. I know you really take advantage of all the options on board. Have a great holiday week.

Hi Pia, thanks for taking us along on another cruise. Always a great read. Hi to Marcia, David and Mike. Hope you all have a wonderful time on your short cruise. Wish I were there with you guys to celebrate Marcia's birthday! :p

We are having a great time. Trivia today was a lot of fun. I wish you were here too :) Guess what David is getting me on board for my b'day?? I'll tell you when I get home ;)

Good Morning from sunny Princess Cays where tendering will begin in approximately 20 minutes. The weather is perfect and is supposed to stay that way all day. We naturally choose not to go over and will happily remain on the ship. We might even sit near the pool; shade and breezes permitting. The rising sun while I was on the treadmill was blinding.

Last night we did attend the Phil Tag (comedian) show. This guy is nuts and quite funny. If you look at his left profile he resembles Robin Williams. Front face, ( he twists his mouth & cheeks) he resembles Robert De Niro. And we donated to the casino coffers. Nothing else to be said about that.

Not very much to do today, but that’s just fine. Two movies on MUTS morning and afternoon - The Princess Bride and Fever Pitch. Afternoon movie in the theater; The Wolverine.

There will be Christmas Carols in the Piazza at 5:00 and 8:00 and the only show tonight will be a magician; Ben Seidman. We have dinner reservations at the Crown Grill and I hope to make it to some of the caroling. Magician I can live without. And will.

Later in the evening is the Ultimate Deck Party at Neptune’s Reef.

There is a priest on board and he will conduct Christmas Eve Mass at 11:30 in the theater.

Ruthanne: No MTL luncheon and no cocktail party means no contact with the upper echelon. Only one available is CC hostess. Will try to catch her and perhaps she has an answer.

I need coffee. Bye for now.

Welcome aboard the lovely Ruby Princess where it looks as if there are lots of first time cruisers. So many visible blue cards. And kids. I’ve already seen enough of them running the corridors and pushing elevator buttons. But it is a Christmas cruise, and Christmas is for families. There's a gingerbread town in the Atrium which so far is all I've seen for decorations. My door is decorated and they have also put an artificial small wreath in the mailbox.

Seems like only yesterday that we got off a ship. Oh yes, that’s right. We did. The Royal is parked at pier 2 and we boarded next door at old old old pier 4. There is a sign that they will be redoing this one too, but no idea when it will occur. We were third on the ship; two wheelchairs ran in front of us. In our cabin at noon with mini bar intact. Called room service and within ten minutes they switched me out. This time we took two coffee cards. Our friends switched their bar and we will share half of that and they will get a coffee card. The best of both worlds for a four day cruise. And, the coffee cards are unmarked :)

Here are some of the ship’s personnel:

Captain: Commodore Giuseppe Romano

Staff Captain: Jon Paul Bryant

Hotel Manager: Guenther Kopf

Cruise Director: Lee Childers

Customer Service: Jeanine Whitehouse

Maitre d’ Nicola Furlan

Having never been on a 4 day cruise, there is a difference in certain things. There will not be a Captain’s Circle party, so we have each been given a beverage ticket to be used in the Elite lounge or at any bar other than the dining room. There will also not be a most traveled luncheon ,and in lieu of that we can choose a complimentary dinner of our choice in either the Crown Grill or Sabatini’s. There is no formal night, but tomorrow, which is a sea day, the suggested dress for dinner is “dress to impress.” I think that means they’d like me to get out of my jeans. Hahaha :p

So what’s happening today? As you know, nothing happens the first day and at night it’s always the welcome aboard show. Not tonight. Tonight there’s a production show; “Colors of the World.” We saw it on the Royal in October, so we’ll go again to see if it’s done the same way. Of the new shows on the Royal, this was the best one. The only thing on MUTS will be football (Bears vs. Eagles).

Other entertainment:

1. Juggler in the Piazza several times afternoon & evening

2. G & V Duo in the Wheelhouse

3. Atomic Party Band in Explorer’s

4. Craig Andrews in Crooners

And that’s about it for now. Hope lots of you cruise along with me. You know I love the company. :D

Almost forgot. Wine table when you pass security. They recorded my one bottle.

Pia,

We were just on the Ruby from 12/14 -12/18 and the entire ship was decorated with xmas trees, wreaths and garlands everywhere, especially in the atrium, but really everywhere.

Colors of the World was one of the best I've seen them do since they went to the shorter show format. Visually beautiful and the two male leads, especially the one who begins the show, are outstanding. The latter not only has a great voice, every move and dance step he takes is special.

Well of course the highlight of our cruise so far has been meeting Pia. She allowed us to join her trivia team, and we're having a blast.

We have second seating traditional dining. One of the biggest things is that they have relaxed the dress code--allowing men to wear shorts to dinner. It's not a big deal, but it reminds me of being on a Carnival cruise. At least the waiters aren't singing.

The food has been very good. Last night, as Pia mentioned, they called it "dressed to impress." One of the head waiters explained that a lot of passengers on the first of these short cruises complained about the lack of a formal night. I guess they had not read the Cruise Personalizer. I'd guess about 20 percent of the men in the dining room were dressed in a necktie, jacket, or both. But there were still men in shorts.

The champagne waterfall was good, with the servers circulating with plenty of champagne. The commodore greeted us personally as he passed by. I don't remember which ship we were on that was under his command. Sam thinks it was our second cruise on the Golden back in 2002.

The Oasis Pool is open. A couple of cruises ago it was closed the whole time with reports of green slime in it.

We had the ultimate balcony breakfast this morning. A friend of ours surprised us with it for our birthdays/wedding/anniversary/Christmas. She went overboard with other gifts to the cabin as well. The breakfast was a nice change of pace. We're saving the champagne and some of the pastries for later. Everything was tasty, but there's way too much food.

The great thing about the relaxed itinerary is that the ship has barely been moving. We also have a nice long time at Princess Cays--starting the tendering at 8 and last tender leaving at 4:30. We're planning on going over at lunchtime for a couple of hours. No need to rush.

A few things to say before I forget. If you read the Live from the Crown, I told you about the new salads at the Int. Café. I didn’t go down there, but friend Marcia said they are the same yucky ones I described to you last week.

No more tuna sandwiches??? What were they thinking? Please tell me Pia, that they have not taken away the chicken salad!
